vegas, seth
It had been a while since Vegas had last seen Seth. He tried to keep in touch with his Murphy's boyfriend after Murphy'd gone missing, but it was hard. Where there was Seth, usually Murphy was at his side. And Vegas imagined that it was just as hard for Seth to even look at him since he was Murphy's twin. They were spot on identical, though their personalities couldn't have been more opposite. Vegas always trusted Seth to look out for Murphy when he wasn't around, though, and there was a small part of him that blamed the other for not being there when Murphy'd gone missing. It was part of Vegas' own guilt, though, too. And he knew it.

So it was a little surprising for him when he came off stage after the little acoustic set that he'd played and saw Seth sitting at the bar. He figured they'd run into one another sooner or later, though, especially since the FBI was now looking into Murphy's dissappearance. Vegas assumed that they'd spoken to Seth, too.

"Hey," he greeted quietly as he approached the bar and ordered a scotch on the rocks. He wet his lips, and it took a moment for him to turn his gaze in Seth's direction. "Are you here because the FBI talked to you?"

The two of them were effectively causing a scene, and that was the last thing Vegas wanted. He let Seth push him, and he stayed quiet while the other yelled at him.

"I'm not optimistic, trust me, I'm not," Vegas shot back. "But if it was such bullshit, you wouldn't be waiting around for him and you know it. And it's one of the reasons why you can't be around me." He felt that maybe Seth was jealous of the fact that he had a connection so strong with Murphy, and he didn't. Sometimes Vegas wished he could give the feelings to Seth, but he'd miss them, even if they were hard they were all he had of Murphy at the moment. "I'm going to get my things. If you want to talk, meet me out by my car. Otherwise, take a cab home."

With that, he turned and headed backstage to collect his guitar.

Just once, he wished Vegas would haul off and punch him. It would satisfy his need to have a tangible sort of punishment for not being around to protect Murphy from whatever force had come and stolen him away. He didn't care about a scene and as Vegas left, Seth turned around to look at the bartender. "What?" he said testily before finishing his drink and paying his bill.

As he left the bar, he honestly didn't know if he would go and meet Vegas by his car or not. Outside, the air hit his face in a cold gust and he stuffed his hands in his pockets, thankful that his blood felt hot under his skin from the drinks. His feet led him to Vegas's car and he leaned against it, waiting for the man to come out the stage door. "I couldn't get a cab," he lied.

When Vegas came outside, he was bundled up in a grey peacoat. He unlocked the trunk and loaded his guitar case inside before he came around to unlock the passenger side door, and he opened it up for Seth to get in. He headed around to the driver's side and slipped into the seat so that he could start the car up.

"I'll give you a ride, c'mon," he said quietly as he leaned over the seat to call out to Seth.

That softened his demeanor a little and he drew the back of his hand across his forehead which was sweating, even in the cold. Leaning against the frame of the car door, Seth sighed. "I'm sorry," he spoke almost too quietly to hear before he climbed into the car. He hated being a dick to Vegas, but it always seemed to work out like that, especially now that Murphy was out of the picture.

Leaning back in the seat, he put the heels of his palms to his eyes and groaned. "I've got to go to fucking work tomorrow. Stan's not going to keep forgiving the hangover calls."

Vegas reached over to turn his music down. Loud music was the last thing Seth needed at the moment, and even if Vegas was annoyed, he wasn't going to be a complete dick. He could be a dick to just about anyone, but for whatever reason he always felt on the fence about being a dick to Seth.

"Take some aspirin when you get home and drink a lot of water," Vegas suggested quietly. "Go straight to bed." He was quiet for a bit after that, and he just drove. After a few blocks, he finally spoke again. "The FBI thinks there's a possibility that whoever took Murphy might be checking in on me."

"What, you mean I shouldn't finish that bit of Bailey's in my fridge?" he laughed, easily making light of the subject even though his job could be on the line because of this--again.

But when Vegas mentioned that, he shot him a look that was a mixture of disbelief and horror. "Are you fucking serious?" he said incredulously. What kind of sick fuck did something like that. "Checking in on you? What does that even mean? Is he some sort of psychopath?" Wonderful, and Murphy was holed up with them somewhere.

"I'm not really sure," Vegas replied honestly as he drove. It was unsettling, but mostly, it was bothersome to Vegas that the man who took his brother away could be so close and he had no idea. He felt like he'd failed Murphy somehow. "They said because I'm Murphy's twin, we're identical. I don't know," he shook his head and swallowed hard before he let out a heavy sigh through his nose. "I don't know."

"Do they think you're in danger?" He couldn't imagine how upset Murphy would be if he knew that the same person who took him was possibly keeping tabs on his twin too. The very idea that the creep could be close made Seth's stomach turn unpleasantly. All of the alcohol sitting on it didn't help much and he felt like was going to throw up. Putting a hand over his mouth, he squeezed his eyes shut, practiced in holding it back. "I'm not going to be able to tell them anything useful--I wasn't anywhere near him. I hadn't seen him in a few days even." He still blamed himself for getting sick.

"No," Vegas said, "Maybe. I don't know. Mostly they want me to keep an eye out for anyone suspicious." He wet his lips and cleared his throat before he glanced over at Seth. "I know what you're doing. And I'll tell you what Mika tells me. It wasn't your fault, you got sick. It wasn't my fault. I was on tour. I know you still feel like it is, though. So do I. But you should talk to them, please. You never know what might help, Seth. Anything small, just - you never know. Wouldn't you rather try than not?"

He knew that Murphy would have told him the same thing, but that didn't change the fact that he was gone. Plus, Murphy would tell him anything just to make him feel better--that's how sweet the boy was. Thinking about things like that always made his heart stick in his chest. "I don't want to get my hopes up," he said and knew that it was one of the most selfish things he'd ever expressed, which was saying a lot.

Leaning his head against the cool glass of the window, he sighed. "I'll talk to them if they come."

"I don't either," Vegas replied, but the truth was that he got his hopes up every single time he felt Murphy. Which was practically all of the time. It was frustrating, knowing for certain that his twin was out there somewhere - with someone who was keeping him captive - and that Vegas couldn't do a damn thing about it. Vegas let out a sigh and swallowed hard. "Thank you."

He nodded and fell silent for the rest of the way back to his apartment. He'd resisted moving just in case Murphy ever needed to find him again, and he couldn't bring himself to leave the place that held so many memories of him.

When they arrived, he couldn't wait to get out of the car. The information that Vegas had told him was almost too much to process and he needed to pass out somewhere safe. "Thanks for the ride," he said with a wave and stumbled toward his building.

"You're welcome," Vegas replied, and though he wanted to get out of the car to help Seth inside he had a feeling that was the very last thing the other boy wanted, so he just stayed put. He watched Seth until he got up to his door, and once he was safely inside, Vegas finally drove home. He doubted either of them would get much sleep tonight.
