After only a few weeks at camp, Arianna was back home with her family and friends. She was a little bummed to not still be working at her Bible Camp, but she was getting over it. It seemed like everyone in school always had inside stories or jokes that she missed out on when school started. Maybe this year she'd have her own memories and secrets to keep. With the Fourth of July days away, she was excited for a little sunbathing and swimming. When Chance had suggested they go, she agreed instantly. She would be able to relax and not have to keep her eyes out on her campers.

Dressed in a modest bikini and covered by her terry cloth cover up dress, Arianna had her sunglasses and flip flops on as well. Scouting out a good spot on the beach, she ran over and laid their blanket down. "This was such a great idea, Chance. I could use a little relaxing and some color!". She put the bag with their towels, sun screen and snack food down on one corner of the blanket and directed him to put the cooler on the other. Taking off her flip flops, she put them down on another corner of the blanket.

A huge smile was plastered to her face. Arianna absolutely loved the water. She couldn't wait to jump in. However, she knew she had to put sunscreen on first. Digging into her bag, she pulled out her SPF40. Squirting a littled onto her legs, she worked the lotion slowly into her thighs and calves. After she was done with her arms and face, she blushed when she took off her cover up. Arianna had a big crush on two boys. Teddy Dixon and Chance Moore. Chance was about to see her in a bikini. The thought made her a little nervous, but she got past it.

"Wanna borrow my lotion when I'm done?". Working the lotion over her stomach and chest she handed it to him. "Help me get my back?"

Arianna squealed with laughter as he chased her into the water. It was really hot outside, so the cold water felt good. But it was really cold too. She just wouldn't let him see her teeth chattering. Once they stayed in long enough, they would get used to it and it would feel good.

"It is cold, but the best thing to do is fully submerge and then just let your head resurface." Before she could do that, though, he splashed her with the cold water. Standing there shocked for a moment, Arianna pulled her mouth shut and started splashing him hard and fast.

"It's very cold! How do you like it?" She knew a retaliation was coming, so before he could launch it she dove into an oncoming wave and swam out a little further. Resurfacing, she turned back to face the shore and see where Chance was.

"You should join me out here... it's much warmer. Honest!" And it was. Maybe it was because she'd gone under and now only had her head out of the water or because the water was slightly warmer when it got a little deeper.

Chance, held his hands up as the water splashed over him and he laughed. Shaking his wet hair, he dove into the water following Arianna further out into the water. He surfaced and made his way to her, a smile moving across his face.

"You're right, it is warmer out here," he said as he swam over next to her. He was really enjoying their day together. The lake, the sun, everything was just perfect. And he had missed her while she was away at camp. But he wanted to keep the day light.

"What did you do at camp? I'm glad you're back, and we came out here. It's already been fun and we just got here." He smiled easily, letting the light drift up to his eyes and spread across his feature. He meant it. Every word. And this was turning into a great day already.

When he resurfaced and he smiled at her, she couldn't help but feel like her heart skipped a beat. Smiling just as brightly back at him, Arianna swam in place. "Of course I was right. I'm a girl," she said with a wink.

She shivered a little, but kept her smile on. Her eyes closed for a minute as she smiled and thought about camp. Arianna always had so much fun when she went there. It was a shame that she wasn't going to be able to stay longer, but at least she had her friends to keep her busy and entertained. it would still be an incredible summer.

"There's church service every morning. Then we have group talks about the readings. Later in the day we did team building exercises. At night we sat around the campfire with smores and singing. Occasionally we told ghost stories. It really is a lot more fun then that sounded... I promise."

A blush crept up on her cheeks when Chance told her he was glad she was back and that he was having fun. "I'm glad I'm back too. I haven't been home for most of summer in a very long time. I'm also really happy that we came out to the lake today too. I'm having fun and I missed you." Squeaking that she'd actually said that out loud, she laughed it off and sunk under the water.

Chance smiled as he listened about camp. "I love camp. The fellowship. The music. And then we usually play in the water and just have fun. It's great. I want to make camp every day! That's why I like doing all the volunteer stuff. Makes me feel like I'm doing something with myself, you know?" He stayed in place treading water for a bit, smiling at her and listening. When she said she missed him, Chance beamed. His heart swelled. He knew they were "just friends," but that didn't mean he wasn't thrilled at her response. And that he didn't want more.

"I missed you!" he said a bit too eagerly. Then without thinking wrapped her in a hug. After a second or two he pulled away. His eyes big. "Um... Sorry. I just... got excited I guess. I hope..." A blush filled his cheeks and he looked up at her with big eyes as he waited for her response.

Arianna nodded. Camp was always a lot of fun. It would have been great if more people from school went. At least then she'd be able to have stories and funtimes in common with everyone else. When she wasn't at camp, she did a lot of volunteering. It made her feel useful. "I completely understand. I love it."

She didn't miss his beam of a smile, which made her blush again. A squeal of laughter and nervous giggles escaped her as he pulled her into a hug. It took a moment for the reality of the situation to sink in. While a part of her blushed, she couldn't help but enjoy the feel of being in his arms. Arianna bit her lip, she batted her eyelashes as some water sprayed her.

"Don't be sorry... Friends can hug... right?". Before she swam away with a splash and a smile, she stroked her fingers in the hair around his ear. Trailing her fingers down his neck, she turned quickly and dove under the water. Swimming back out to the sand, she stood in knee deep water. She adjusted her suit and ran back to their towels. Sprawling out on her back, she let the sun start warming her.

"Mmm..."

Chance shivered and smiled feeling her hands on him. And blushed a little as she swam off. His face beamed as he followed her and laid out on the towel.

"This is really nice, Arianna. The sun. The water. I really am having a good time. I... I kinda wanna ask you something," Chance stammered. He rolled over on his side, propping his head up on his arm as he looked at her. He was nervous, his heart was pounding, but he wanted to know.

"I mean, I just wanted to know what you think about like friends and people that are... more than friends? Do you think that's weird? When friends go out on a date or something?" He internally cringed at his nervousness, but he was too nervous to just ask her out if all she wanted was to be friends. Did she miss him as a friend? Did she want to be more than a friend? She was amazing and he always wanted to go on a date with her, find a high school sweetheart and girlfriend, and him and Arianna had fun and common interests and she was so pretty.

Sigh.

"It is really nice. So relaxing. Glad we could spend it together." When he stammered a little, she rolled onto her own side and mimicked his position so that she could look at him more clearly. Laying there, Arianna listened to him. She wasn't exactly sure what he was trying to say, so she had a slightly quizzical look on her face.

She thought about his question when she finally pieced it together. Of course, she didn't think he was talking about them so it was easier to answer... though the answer wouldn't really differ either way. "People go out on dates to get to know others better... because they think there is a connection that could be formed. Depending no the friendship, I can see that actually making a relationship and dating easier. You already know if you're compatible on one level. So I think it's a good jumping off point. Why? What's up?"

Laying back on her back, she wanted to get an even tan. Arianna reached behind herself and grabbed her sunglasses. Once on her face, she turned her head to look at him giving him a genuine smile. "I think you should lay on your stomach... let your back get warmed."

Chance took a deep breath as he laid down on his stomach, following her instructions and letting the sun warm his back and shoulders. He was so nervous his palms were sweating and he turned to face her, tucking his hands under her head.

"Would you like to go see a movie with me sometime? Like... not just us hanging out. Like a date." His mouth was dry and his heart was racing. Why was he so nervous? They were friends. Maybe he wanted to be more than friends. And he was the guy wasn't he supposed to be the one to make the first move? But what if she said no?

Practically holding his breath, Chance waited for her response.

Arianna couldn't help but bite back a smile as he laid on his stomach. She was already starting to feel a little bad, but a small, tiny part of her kind of like the idea that he'd have her hand prints on him. Of course she'd be utterly embarrassed if she was around him when he found out about them or had to try and explain them to anyone. Before she could really give it anymore though, he was speaking again.

As he started asking his question, her own heart started to race some. This couldn't be happening, right? A boy that she actually had a crush on didn't like her back, did he? A deep blush settled over her cheeks and neck. She nodded, but then spoke. "I would love to... I mean... if you really want to. That would be nice."

Chance beamed. "Of course I want to! I wouldn't have asked if I didn't want to, sweetie. Friday sound like a plan, maybe around like 4? I'll pick you up. We can get dinner afterwards." Smiling from ear to ear Chance reached a hand out to her, and touched her arm with his fingertips.

He was on cloud nine. So nervous, and at the same time, so excited. He hadn't been on many dates, only one other one by himself because he generally liked going out with a group. He wanted to make it special, and his brain reeled at what they should do together after the movie, or what movie to see even. But right now, he was just enjoying the fact that a girl he liked had agreed to go on a date with him.

A real date.

Sweetie. Arianna smiled brighter when he called her that. It was cute and she'd only ever heard it from her parents, but she liked it. "Friday works for me... I'm cool with doing whatever, seeing whatever, or eating wherever." When his hand came across and ran across her arm, she brought her other hand to his and gave him a slight squeeze.

Arianna hadn't really been on a real date. She'd gone on a few group date things, but never one on one. One on one dates meant the guy would try to kiss you at the end of the night and so far there hadn't been anyone she would want to kiss. She didn't want to waste her first kiss on some random guy, she wanted it to mean something. A part of her could see that with Chance... not that they would kiss on the first date. If they did it would surely be just a quick peck.

Biting her lips, she blushed deeper. Why was she thinking about kissing him? Rolling her had back to look up at the sky, she toyed with her lip. She was feeling bad now. "Chance... Maybe I should reapply the sunscreen to your back... I might have missed a spot or two."

Chance beamed at her response. He felt like his heart was going to explode clean out of his chest. He had a date! A really real date! With ARIANNA REESE! Internal fist pump could not even come close to describing his happiness.

"Excellent! Movie. Maybe some dinner or something afterward. We'll play it by ear. I'll come pick you up at like 5? Sound good?" His face felt like it was going to explode from the smile spread so wide across it. Nerves completely disappeared, Chance relished in his joy and confidence.

He gave her a look about the sunscreen. "It's ok. You did fine. Let's just lay here and get dry," he smiled and moved his hand so it rested on top of hers.

A date with Chance Moore. While his nerves might have completely disappeared, hers came in full force. What was she going to wear? What if he tried to kiss her? Well... that one was easy. He was one of the only boys that she wouldn't mind kissing... that would be deserving of her first kiss. Then again, she had no idea if he would even try that. Better to not think about it.

"What if I want to see a romantic comedy? You know... a girly movie. That still okay with you?" Smiling from ear to ear, she tried not to keep blushing. This would be okay. This would be better then okay. "Five sounds good. I can't wait."

When his hand rested on top of hers, she held it gently. Arianna liked the way her hand fit in his. Biting her lip, she nodded at his words. Hopefully he wouldn't be too mad at her when he saw her hand prints on his back. "Sounds good to me..."

His mind filled with images of her in jeans or a little sundress, holding her hand during the movie, getting something to eat and playing around, walking hand in hand. And maybe, if it felt right, he might kiss her on the cheek. Maybe.

"A romantic comedy? You mean one of those chick flicks? WHAT?! So long as the good guy gets the girl in the end, I'm cool with it." He smiled big. "Perfect."

Chance's thumb swirled over her skin, letting the sun warm him as thoughts of their date filled his head.

"Yep... One of those chick flicks. Of course the good guy will get the girl in the end... Though I'm not opposed to going and seeing Thor or some other manly movie either. We'll see what's playing when we go."

The sun was starting to dry her off and she worried her bottom lip about his back. Hopefully he wouldn't be too upset about her hand prints. If he canceled their date, then he was. As his thumb swirled over her skin, she hummed to herself. Chance knew how to make her feel good. Maybe this date really was a good idea after all.
