[Berk.]
Marnie didn't spend all of her time being a self-absorbed ballerina despite popular opinion. She'd heard that Amelia was in the hospital, and while she was fairly certain that the woman didn't like her much, she was still a bit unsure about Berk. Which meant, of course, that bringing him cookies would be the perfect opportunity to sway him over to the 'support Rosemarne' side of things and convince his wife of the same.

Thus it was that she wandered into the Ministry, a round Halloween-themed cookie tin clutched firmly in her hands. She peered around the unit she imagined Berk was working in (since it was where Mycroft worked, too), hoping to spot him.

Harder than it looked, apparently! She huffed, steeling her determination to find Berk and deliver his cookies.

Damnit.

Entertainment was something that Marnie was more used to giving than receiving, honestly. She smiled faintly when he spoke, though, and quickly shuffled over to the sitting area, flopping down in one of the chairs and crossing her ankles in a dainty way probably not expected from her considering how often she fidgeted as she stood.

"Oh, okay." She smoothed her hand through her hair. "Yeah, I don't have anything to do today. I mean, I have to go to Russia tomorrow but I'll be back in about a week..." She waved a hand. "Have you been -- all right? I mean. Well, I know we haven't talked since the wedding and all."

He hoped his mouth to give the standard reply of lots of work, lots of papers, but Berk quickly stopped himself. He really wasn't okay. The troubles with Amelia was wearing on him, and while his wife was more irritated about missing time at work (which he did understand, it was her job to save the world from this mess the Ministry was creating), Berk couldn't stop himself from worrying about the worst possible scenarios.

Mara wasn't due until the end of November. There was a good chance she'd survive if born right now (dear Lord, right now would be absolutely terrifying, he wasn't even ready for a month from now!), but what if she didn't? Just the idea of their daughter not making it made Berk's insides clench and twist in discomfort. And to add onto that, Conway had him investigating a bloody Wizengamot member that--could definitely have ties to the death eaters. Berk wasn't dumb, he'd noticed the connection even further than Booth (not to say that Booth was dumb, but). It was also why he was keeping a watchful eye on Wilkes, and even the sister that worked in International Relations.

"Erhm--not really, to be honest," he said with a shrug, pushing into the back of the chair. "It's just a lot of stuff hitting at once, you know?"

She frowned a little when he spoke. If there was one thing that Marnie was really very good at, it was being overly sentimental and touchy. She reached out to give his hand a gentle pat when Berk spoke, nodding.

"Of course, with your wife and your job -- oh, I can only imagine how stressful it must be with everything going on at once." After all, she thought that her life was very busy and she only had to balance Russia and a fake husband and ballet lessons -- okay, so maybe she was justified in believing her own life was hectic. "I'm sure it's really weird considering I'm ... married to your brother and all, but I'm a pretty good listener -- if you want to talk outside of a corner of your Auror's office."

Out of all the random women that could have flung themselves at Mycroft's ridiculous offer, Berkeley was beginning to believe that he was damn lucky that Marnie was the one who accepted. There was no reason for her to care about Mycroft's family, there was no reason to even care about Mycroft, but she did, and she was going out of her way to make an effort and--it was nice. There wasn't much nice in the world, these days.

Berk gave a real smile, something that had been a bit rare these past few weeks, and he nodded, looking down at the tin of cookies.

"No, no--it shouldn't be weird. I mean--you're my sister-in-law." Berk's head bobbed back and forth for a moment as he realized how odd it was to say that, and not mean one of Amelia's siblings. A silly grin was on his face, because while the Ministry had been fooled by Mycroft and Marnie's stories, of course the two sitting together right now knew otherwise. "We're family, now. So."

"Yeah, well..." she waved a hand in front of her emphatically, "I know that it wasn't the most ideal circumstance in which to gain a sibling, you know? I fully plan to make up for it in copious amounts of baking." Which she doubted Berk was going to have a problem with, in all honesty.

Marnie flashed him a half-grin at the smile -- aha, at least something good had come from her visit. She smoothed her hand through her hair, biting on her lip. "I mean, I'd tell you to relax...but I relax by dancing and I assume it's not so easy for other people."
