Who: Phoebe and Ashlyn
What: :\
When: New Year's Eve

Okay, Ashlyn was really not ready for this. Sure, she had talked to Emmeline to get the potion and everything and she knew that things with Keegan were going to end up in matrimonial bliss at some point but she was in school. More importantly, she was not supposed to be the stupid girl who let some guy have his fun and then have these---consequences that she was far too young and not at all ready with which to deal! She had visions of becoming a hit witch that had been dancing in her head since she was thirteen and if she was pregnant (which she wasn't even really sure she was), her future career could be jeopardized. They wouldn't let a girl who was up the duff out on assignments, training and the like. This--this was the sort of thing that happened to other girls, girls like Ingrid Catchlove, not her. They had been careful! She was on the potion, and they'd used protection and--there was just no way she could be.

It'd been nearly a month since the last encounter with Keegan, and still nothing. Maybe it was just the stress that was making her late, she didn't know. But if she was pregnant, there would be no turning around from this. Her mother would be furious, and her father would probably kill Keegan, but she'd be having the baby. Even if she wanted to--to have an abortion--her parents wouldn't allow it (damn Catholicism). They would be angry if they even knew that she was on birth control but--she wasn't even sure if it had done its fucking job in the first place.

Even more scary than telling her parents would be telling Keegan. If she wasn't ready to be a mum, she was sure he wasn't ready to be a father. All she could do now is wait for Phoebe to show up and pray that she wasn't actually pregnant. She didn't want to admit this to Phoebe, either, but she was her best friend. This was something she needed to have her best friend there for, and if anyone would be understanding (even if she didn't actually mean it), it would be Phoebe. She just--needed to figure out how to word things before she arrived. And whether or not she actually wanted to use the test tonight or just wait a while longer. Maybe if she ignored it it would go away?

"I don't know!" she snapped back, immediately regretting the tone in her voice. She had no reason to get upset at Phoebe but--the stress of this wasn't helping her any, and she was super anxious about the entire situation. She was avoiding eye contact with Phoebe as she continued her search for the parcel--there. She sighed softly. "I'm sorry, I just--I've been putting off dealing with this and I just--sorry." She snatched up the potion and did her best to unscramble herself and sit upright on the bed.

"We were careful about things," Ashlyn said before the lecture could come. "We really were. And--and I've been on the potion since July for Christ's sake! There shouldn't be any way that I am but--" But all the signs were there. She sighed, unwrapping the parcel carefully, revealing the potion that had been sitting dormant since they went on break. She had no idea how to use it--she knew that the muggle tests just had you pee on a stick, but this looked rather full of liquid and she didn't think there would be room for more liquid. "And I don't even know how to use this damn thing," she pouted, pulling her knees up to her chest.

Phoebe snatched the pregnancy test (PREGNANCY TEST!) out of Ashlyn's hand to look at the vial. Her friend thought she was pregnant! Pregnant! Pregnant as in there was a supposed baby inside of Ashlyn! How on earth could this have happened! How on EARTH could this have happened?

Well---she knew how this could happen, but she couldn't figure out the bloody circumstances surrounding it!

"Stop---stop trying to make up--excuses!" Phoebe snapped, some small part of her feeling bad for scolding Ashlyn while she was in such a delicate situation, but someone needed to! Phoebe wasn't going to coddle her and tell her it's okay that she had unprotected sex (THOSE POTIONS WERE---THEY WERE 99.9999999999% EFFICIENT, WEREN'T THEY?), that she and Keegan couldn't keep it in their bloody pants and----"How could you just---put this--off!"

Phoebe turned to Ashlyn, looking absolutely incredulous. "Look, just---the instructions are under the label," she'd been in St. Mungo's enough to know how to work one of these damn things, "Just---go to the bathroom and----I'll be here."

"I didn't want to think about it," she moaned helplessly. Would Phoebe have wanted to take the damn test if she thought that Elphias had knocked her up? Hmmmmmmm?!?!

Ashlyn snatched the pregnancy test back from Phoebe before throwing the door open and stomping down the hallway. This was so ridiculous, why had she even bothered asking Phoebe. She wasn't even being nice to her. Rubbish, rubbish, rubbish! She slammed the bathroom door shut for good measure before sinking down onto the floor, her back pressed against the cold tile wall. She carefully pulled the label away to reveal the instructions...

Five minutes later, Ashlyn found herself quickly shuffling down the hallway, a fizzing purple vial in her hands. This was bad. Bad bad bad bad BAD! She quickly shut the door to her room and locked it before sliding to the floor yet again. She felt like crying or screaming or--or sending Keegan a howler, but she knew she couldn't do that. She didn't even think she could get herself to stand up at that moment.
