Who: Mary and Gabriel
What: I'ma get get get get you drunk...
Where: Mary's flat
When: Saturday night, lateish

Mary was sleepy...and hungry. Actually, probably more hungry than sleepy. Which was why she was currently baking a batch of brownies because she was craving cake and chocolate and fudge and it was the only thing that could really satisfy all three of those at once without really accomplishing anything. She pouted a bit to herself as she scraped the mixing bowl, letting the last bit of the batter plop into the baking pan. God, these better taste good otherwise she'd be very upset at how long she would be waiting for them to bake fully.

It was shaping up to be a pretty uneventful evening, that was, until she heard the familiar sound of someone arriving in her fireplace. Strange...she hadn't been expecting anyone and--she felt this sudden fear boil up in her as she heard things hitting the floor in the living room and she was panicking and no. Call it her maternal instinct, but if this was someone coming because she was a muggleborn and vocal about things and--she grabbed the cast iron skillet from the stove top, holding its handle with both hands as she made her way around the corner. Ugh, where was Gabriel when she needed him around?!

His breath continued to hitch as she grew near, and some ridiculous voice in his head told him that he wasn't allowed to look at her. There were too many things that had gone wrong because he looked at her. He had always been looking at Mary, he'd always thought about Mary, and the only reason he'd ever been bold enough to make a move was because she was already lying in his bed.

"I--" He couldn't tell her, he could barely understand it himself. He should be furious that his family wasn't willing to acknowledge his son, because of his lineage, but at the same time he was completely devastated by the fact. Gabriel couldn't understand it, he absolutely had no idea how to describe it, just that---

He couldn't decide, he couldn't decide if Mary had ruined his life or saved it.

In something of a panic, Gabriel's hands rose quickly to grab onto the side of her face, and he kissed her hard--almost as if to reassure himself that he was going to be able to survive this entire situation. He didn't know where they were going, all he knew was that he was going to have a son and be there for his son no matter--what. And he'd fight with his family until they understood that, but--

Gabriel pulled away quickly, realizing he hadn't kissed her since the morning they conceived their child. He didn't know what to do, now especially, and he dropped down into the chair behind him, just barely making it and not tumbling to the floor. He needed a nap, he needed to sleep, he needed to wake up and not find anything wrong with his life at all.

Mary sharply breathed in through her nose at the feel of his lips pressing against hers, a slight jolt of shock going through her system. It had been--months now since the last time they'd done anything like this and he was drunk and it just--she couldn't find where exactly to file this moment in her brain.

As he pulled away and sunk to the chair, Mary let out a shaky breath. A hand subconsciously went to her stomach as she looked down at Gabriel, feeling the gentlest of nudges from their son. She had no idea what it was, but something had happened. It had to have, for him to be acting like this. There had been such a solid disconnection between them through the past few months that this sudden--whatever. It had to mean that something was up, didn't it? Was she allowed to continue to ask him, or would that be considered overkill?

She sat herself down in an adjacent chair, peering silently at him as she began to bite her nails. It was a horrible habit that she had been trying to break herself of for years, but any time she needed to figure things out or just think, in went her fingers and poof! No more nails. Yup, Mary MacDonald was now in full thinking mode.

She let out a soft sigh, now pulling her legs up to her chest. "Gabriel..." she wasn't even sure where she was going to go with this now. There were so many thoughts and unanswered questions rushing through her head that she didn't rightly know where to begin. But--they couldn't just leave things, could they? They had to talk about something, even if it just ended up being--she sat upright again and stared over at him. "I--" she was about to ask him to come over to where she was sitting, but thought better of it. She slowly stood and moved to perch on the arm of his chair before grabbing his hand. She placed it on her stomach, just where she'd felt the baby kicking. Maybe she'd get lucky, maybe the baby would keep up with this kickboxing routine long enough for Gabriel to feel the tiny little nudges.

Gabriel's shoulders were sunk low, head dropping forward slightly as his current inebriation was beginning to take its toll. He let Mary take his hand as it had just fallen limp onto the seat, and he didn't resist her movements. He hadn't been as affectionate toward her growing stomach as a normal father would be, and part of that ate at him, but it was not as if he normally touched Mary with any sort of affection. Which--also bothered him, it did, but he was just not ready to make that sort of--

Oh, she was trying to see if the baby would kick for him.

He lifted his head with some effort, pressing down just a bit to see if he could, but he felt nothing more than the fabric of her shirt. She was trying, though, and while his mind couldn't do anything but drive him hysterical, it managed to give him some common sense, after nearly revealing his disowning. Mary did not need to know about his parents' reactions to the news, and Gabriel wanted to keep it that way.

Gabriel smiled and nodded, keeping his hand on her stomach as his gaze dropped again. He hadn't felt a thing, but--he needed to stop this from going any further.

Mary mustered the best smile she could. His complete lack of speech and how he was holding himself--he looked like a dog that had been kicked and it was bothering her. She wanted things to feel great for once--not just good, and not okay. She wanted to make this work with him, more than anything. She could handle having their son and she had been managing so far with their current relationship, but she couldn't help but think that there was this tiny being that was a mix of the two of them inside of her and she felt so intimately tied to him, but not to his father and--bugger. She was not going to let herself get hormonal and start crying. Especially not in front of Gabriel.

She gave his hand a gentle squeeze before letting it drop. She was exhausted and needed sleep. Obviously he needed it as well...and a place to actually sleep. With a sigh, she stood from the chair and left the living room momentarily, going to rummage through the linen closet for sheets and a more comfortable pillow. "Will you be alright for the night?" she asked softly, folding her arms as she looked over at him.
