Halloween Party (for Saturday!)! Everyone!
Halloween was her favorite day of the year, outside of her birthday. And Christmas. And Valentine's Day! It was still pretty up there, considering that there were 365 days in the bloody year! Liz couldn't handle the excitement, whether it be from dressing Katie up in adorable little outfits (plural, because she simply could not pick one obnoxiously cute costume for her daughter) or doing her hair or making Ian dress up and the candy!

Ohhhh, the candy.

It was probably not a good idea to be on a full blown sugar rush when you left for a big party like this, but her fans (she had FANS!) were used to her rapid paced talk! So this should be the norm for everyone, because Liz Bell was a show stopper! The red carpet was sooo much fun, and the Bells were just sofreakinggoodlooking so why would the cameras not flash at them and sigh.

Halloween was the best ever.

"How are my buns?" she asked without looking up, unsure if she had wandered away from her husband or not. There were so many pretty costumes and lights and shiny things...it really wasn't her fault if she'd gotten lost in the crowd.

He felt something of a stalker as he watched Rachel entered the party. Gabriel had known when she would be arriving, what she would be wearing (for the most part), and felt quite ill for his investigative actions. It wasn't particularly hard to find out her schedule; he had made it a point to reintroduce himself to Giada Dorny, who he would be seeing around the WWN offices from now on. Gabriel remembered her to be quite loquacious, and it was rather easy to prompt her to speak about her plans, and her friend, for the evening.

Now all he had to do was approach her, and find out how this evening was going to end. Gabriel had given the arrangement a lot of thought over the past week or so that he'd known. When he'd first heard of his parents' plans with the Englewoods, he'd been aghast and humiliated; this was only to repair the damage either of them had done to their reputations (though Gabriel was unaware the cause Rachel's fall from grace). He should not feel ashamed about his son, or who he felt he could socalize with.

But...after mulling the idea over, this really was the answer he'd been praying for during his entire ordeal with Mary. Gabriel had wished for anything that would make him, once more, the son that his parents loved, without having to give up Michael from his life. They were accepting his son now that Mary was out of the picture, but imagine if he were to marry a pureblooded woman? It would make everything right, and he would be able to be his son's father, and...

...it still had some kinks. Gabriel knew Rachel's personality from Hogwarts, he had avoided her, and he had been a year ahead! So who knew how this would play out, but he was willing to see. If she did not want his attentions, he would not force his attentions on her. There was going to be no forcing, there was going to be understanding. Hopefully.

"Miss. Englewood," Gabriel greeted quietly, coming from behind Rachel. He wondered if he should have to announce that he was the one she was intended for, or if Rachel would figure it out for herself. He really hoped he didn't have to explain, "You look astonishing this evening."

She whirled around when she felt the tickle of air on the back of her neck, the velveteen voice sending a brief shiver down her spine. Rachel found herself at a most surprising loss for words, the face before hers more familiar than she liked or expected.

"Gab—Mister Corner," she began, alarm evident in her voice. "Are—"

It did not take long for the truth to dawn on her. They were only barely acquainted, and other than a function here or there, had seen each other very, very rarely since he'd left school. There would be no reason to seek her out unless he was the one she, too, was supposed to be finding. A sweeping glance at his costume, the sword in particular, and she knew it was no coincidence.

"Thank you," Rachel murmured tersely in response to his compliment, a note of uncertainty in her tone. Her eyebrows knitted together in concentration as she appraised the man standing before her in a new light. It had never been the case that she was meeting someone she knew, albeit not well. The men on the other end of the set-ups were always Beauxbaton boys, Durmstrang educated, or far older than she would remember from her Hogwarts days. It was easier to act heartless or cruel to a face she was certain she'd never see again, but Gabriel Corner… he, on the other hand, was different. What was she to do?

News of Gabriel's recent indiscretions had not escaped her ears, but rather than sympathy, her most predominant feelings were those of anger, irritation, hopelessness. "They're using us, you know," Rachel informed him, seeing no point in beating around the bush. "They're being punished for our imprudence and are trying to bring themselves back into social graces. This isn't for us, at all."

Gabriel's head nodded once, sucking in his bottom lip for a moment before he gestured to a few empty seats near by. That was much easier than he had expected, and he was glad for it. Of course, he wasn't looking forward to the conversation, given that his prior thoughts on the matter seemed to be the opposite of Rachel's opinions, but they were off to a good start. When they were seated he took a moment to gather his thoughts, hunched forward slightly as his hands hung between his legs, hands clasped.

"I'd like to believe that our parents want to see us happy, at the end of everything they do, even if their perceptions of 'happiness' aren't exactly the proper...modern definition of the word." Gabriel kept his voice steady, unsure of the last time he was able to keep himself so in check. Any serious situation he'd been in during the past year had caused him to stutter and sometimes even run away. He needed to grow up, and get this done. "I am honestly a man of tradition, despite my recent indiscretions."

Finally he sat up and looked at Rachel, a smile playing on his face. Michael would always be his favorite indiscretions, of course. "I am here to say that...I wish for you to do what you think is best, for you. I think I could make you very happy, Rachel, but I also know that you could make yourself very happy, and do not need a man or a husband to do so."

"I don't think it's fair to ask for an answer right now, I think you deserve more than a night or--a week, a month, a year to decide, so I'll respect any length of time it takes for you to completely reject me," the smile still played on his face, and Gabriel shrugged. He'd been through this before, numerous times, but now that he had his son it did not feel as completely terrifying as it had before.
