Halloween Party (for Saturday!)! Everyone!
Halloween was her favorite day of the year, outside of her birthday. And Christmas. And Valentine's Day! It was still pretty up there, considering that there were 365 days in the bloody year! Liz couldn't handle the excitement, whether it be from dressing Katie up in adorable little outfits (plural, because she simply could not pick one obnoxiously cute costume for her daughter) or doing her hair or making Ian dress up and the candy!

Ohhhh, the candy.

It was probably not a good idea to be on a full blown sugar rush when you left for a big party like this, but her fans (she had FANS!) were used to her rapid paced talk! So this should be the norm for everyone, because Liz Bell was a show stopper! The red carpet was sooo much fun, and the Bells were just sofreakinggoodlooking so why would the cameras not flash at them and sigh.

Halloween was the best ever.

"How are my buns?" she asked without looking up, unsure if she had wandered away from her husband or not. There were so many pretty costumes and lights and shiny things...it really wasn't her fault if she'd gotten lost in the crowd.

She refrained from rolling her eyes as Drystand made some idle talk with a person Bess did not recognize, or care to know. It didn't seem like anything important, though there were probably some dealings going on at this party, but right now anything the man spoke about was going to be nothing but yawn-worthy. If this had been a week ago, Bess would have been clinging to his every word, but tonight.

It felt like she'd been forced to be here. Which, admittedly, was her own fault, but it still stung. She was trying to be nice by asking for a way to repay him, and had imagined that Drystan was a nice fellow, and his letters did not give off any sort of nice feeling at all. Maybe that's what she was most annoyed about; she had actually bothered to trust someone in a rather short amount of time, and boom. Jackass.

For some unknown reason, the random person turned his attention to Bess, and her face took on a very, very interested expression as she sipped a rather long sip of her drink. She nodded along and giggled as if terribly amused, waiting for the man to turn away before she finally let herself roll her eyes.

Ugh, that felt good.

Drystan did not have the reputation for being the most approachable of players. He was patient with fans and willing to answer reasonable or intelligent questions for any polite representatives of publications, and attended a large number of social and charitable events, though it was usually at his teammates' behest, and he was more often than not the tall lurker in the back. So it was beyond him why this night, of all nights, acquaintances were demanding his attention from the moment he'd stepped through the door. He was accosted by the representative from the Department of Magical Games and Sports whose name he did not care about, but who insisted on pressing Drystan for his opinion on Rocco Molina's death, then making eyes at the woman on his arm.

That was certainly enough of that. Waving the wizard away with a sour glance, he glanced at the elusive Miss Zeller with a quirked eyebrow, smirking slightly at her rolling eyes.

"You're very good," he told her with a note of amused approval as there was a lull in greeting acquaintances and making small talk. Watching her from the corner of his eye, he was reminded of the lengths to which he had gone in order to involve himself in her life. The downside to this, of course, was that the woman was far from aware of how immersed he had succeeded in becoming (particularly in the financial aspects), but that might have been for the best.

"We've been here at least a half hour, and you've completely refrained from demanding why I elected to escort you here."

To be fair, she had completely refrained from demanding anything.

Jonas's hands were shaking so badly that he'd already dropped enough equipment to have himself banished from the gig trailer. How he was going to perform in front of hundreds of people -- let alone propose to his girlfriend -- he didn't know. This was, of course, all his fault, but this was his biggest blunder by far. And it still depressed him that he was thinking of his first big gig as a blunder.

Jonas needed to pull himself together. The band needed to start playing, soon. He also needed to figure out how exactly he was going to play a guitar whilst wearing a bloody huge Muggle shirt. But he could figure that one out after he found his girl and calmed down. Yes, Kobe would know how to make him stop shaking. At least, that's what he'd convinced himself.

She was just. So. EXCITED! And it wasn't even the first time she and Jonas had been together during a big event or one of his shows, this was just---IT WAS HALLOWEEN! Which meant costumes and candy and laughing and pranks and IT WAS THE BEST! And all the famous people! Famous people were so cool. Kobe was definitely not jaded in the ways of being star struck, she got herself all worked up and excited about seeing quidditch players and WWN personalities and it was just----so---EXCITING!

And now to wish her baby good luck!

"Yoo whoo!" she chirped, peeking into the gig trailer. Kobe grinned widely and waved quickly at Jonas' band mates before rushing over to him and dropping down beside him, "You look sick! Bad candy?"

She shook her head though, putting her hands to Jonas' face, "If you're going to puke, do it now, it might make you feel better." This was something Kirby had taught her. There were probably some other stage fright stuff that she couldn't remember, but, "I'll make sure no one sees."

Elsie!

"I can't believe you got me to wear this."

Elliot murmured under his mask, glad that whatever charms had been put on made it easy to kiss Elsie even with the obnoxious nose. He hadn't been able to stop kissing her in what felt like years, even though really...the past two months of his life had felt like a decade. Mentally, physically, it was as if he'd gone through every stage of life, experienced every emotion a million times over.

He'd only managed to not go insane because of the woman in his arms, and Elliot only slightly pulled away from her before he was kissing her again. Elsie had made him see that his life wasn't over and that there were a million things to live for. Liam, his sister, his father, their future. Over the fear of losing his job, the stigma of being a werewolf, the thing that had terrified Elliot the most when he woke up was that Elsie would want nothing to do with him, that she'd be terrified of being with a werewolf.

Boy had he been wrong. The woman was even okay with marrying a werewolf. Last weekend, in fact. Maybe that's what it was, the high of a newlywed letting Elliot get past his self-consciousness and wear the silly costume.

He should probably keep kissing her, then.

"I didn't—this was your—and I went along with—!"

Her squawk of indignation was both interrupted and dulled by Elliot and his very persistent lips (or was it snout?). It had been very difficult work not to giggle every time he'd advanced on her whilst they were getting ready, excepting a cold, wet nose to bump her cheek instead of very human lips.

Elsie tugged at the hem of her cloak, green eyes very anxious as she looked up at Elliot's face, trying to ascertain if this was okay, if he was nervous, if she'd perhaps done something wrong. The honeymoon had been brief—very brief—but it was by no means over, yet. Even though it felt as though she'd been married to him much, much longer than she really had been, she still thought that there were many things unspoken between them, perhaps problems that they had avoided facing.

Or perhaps she was scared that blissful married life couldn't last this long, so she might as well walk on eggshells whilst it lasted, perhaps to soften the blow when it did end. Elsie already knew that this wasn't going to be easy.

But that was for another time. Tonight, everything would be all right. She slid her hand down his arm, curling it around his own, giving it a squeeze.

Franzy wasn't going to come to the stupid Halloween party. It wasn't like she had a date or anything, and celebrity's tended to cause her nothing but trouble. Or she caused the trouble, but that really didn't matter, did it, the point was she and people of celebrity status didn't mix.

The original plan was to say at home and pass out candy to the kids running around. You know, be nice and such. Franzy was capable of being nice and not selfish.

But then she received a ticket by owl, a not so cheap ticket for free. She really couldn't turn it down could she? Free food and alcohol. So she dressed up and went to the stupid party, and she was going to have a drama free night. Because that was possible.

She stood on the fringe of the crowd, sipping her drink, trying her best not to look too bored, because of course there was only one ticket delivered to her and she was still dateless.

Why was she here again? She drained the last bit of her drink as she felt a tap on her shoulder. Oh maybe tonight wasn't a complete loss. she thought as she turned to only to find someone ask her where they should put the dirty glasses.

"Oh for the love of Merlin. Do I look like someone who works here? This is a costume." she gestured at a waiter who was wearing something that didn't even remotely look like what she had on. "Which looks nothing like their uniforms. But if you really want to know, I'll tell you where I think you can put your dirty glasses." Franzy stormed off in search of another drink, seriously rethinking her costume and coming to this party at all.

"Perhaps you need to be more forward thinking," Stubby said, snapping a picture of her (with the camera turned sideways and at an odd angle - the whole point of his costume was to take terrible pictures of people. That was why he was a paparazzo, of course) and so seeing Franzy there was just kind of - perfect. Stubby didn't really know why he felt the need to bother her, he didn't really question these sorts of feelings. Plus, she was the one that had run off with his bandmate AND then run out on him for some naked guy AT the wedding. It was totally deserving of bothering. Right?

Anyway. It totally ways. "You are kind of ironic, at least in that anyway," Stubby smirked at her. "Good at making messes, not so much cleaning them up."

Gabriel!
[info]malengled
2009-11-01 12:43 pm UTC (link)
Rachel hated her parents sometimes. Technically speaking, she hated her parents always, but tonight had brought about a fresh surge of annoyance. It had been one week since they announced another match was on the table for her, pretending as though the scores of suitors she'd terrorized simply didn't exist. Were she not so horrified, Rachel would have laughed. It wasn't so much of a surprise, she supposed, after all—how long had they been biding their time until Healer Smethwyck was out of the picture? They must have been showing her courtesy by biding their time 'til tonight, given that she and Healer Smethwyck had been separated for a good three months, her having been bed-ridden with concussion-induced amnesia for nearly as long. Rachel could have done without the trip down memory lane, particularly when it ended up compromising her employment. Driftless, loveless… how was it that, a year later, she was ending up right where she started?

She tried not to remember the last Halloween, the one where it seemed like the possibilities for her were expanding across the horizon.

"If you'll excuse me, darling," she'd told Giada as soon as they'd entered, who clearly had other means of entertaining herself, "I'll just be two seconds. There's something that needs nipping in the bud." A meaningful glance was exchanged.

Grinding her teeth in annoyance, her eyes roved the mingling groups of scales, feathers, and fur, to name a few of the eye-popping affectations, trying in vain to remember what it was the man would be wearing. Perhaps the intrigue and mystery her parents were straining to achieve would have been better suited in a private function, potentially one that involved masks, not that it matted much. Her claws might have needed sharpening, but Rachel remembered her lines like a script's dialogue; she'd only need a few minutes to dissuade the man from carrying on with this pointless charade.

After a few more minutes of fruitless scanning passed, she began contemplating the consequences of ignoring her parents' wishes altogether. They'd certainly been outraged enough at her chosen ensemble. Even she wrinkled her nose slightly at it, but rebellion sometimes called for the shelving of good taste.

He felt something of a stalker as he watched Rachel entered the party. Gabriel had known when she would be arriving, what she would be wearing (for the most part), and felt quite ill for his investigative actions. It wasn't particularly hard to find out her schedule; he had made it a point to reintroduce himself to Giada Dorny, who he would be seeing around the WWN offices from now on. Gabriel remembered her to be quite loquacious, and it was rather easy to prompt her to speak about her plans, and her friend, for the evening.

Now all he had to do was approach her, and find out how this evening was going to end. Gabriel had given the arrangement a lot of thought over the past week or so that he'd known. When he'd first heard of his parents' plans with the Englewoods, he'd been aghast and humiliated; this was only to repair the damage either of them had done to their reputations (though Gabriel was unaware the cause Rachel's fall from grace). He should not feel ashamed about his son, or who he felt he could socalize with.

But...after mulling the idea over, this really was the answer he'd been praying for during his entire ordeal with Mary. Gabriel had wished for anything that would make him, once more, the son that his parents loved, without having to give up Michael from his life. They were accepting his son now that Mary was out of the picture, but imagine if he were to marry a pureblooded woman? It would make everything right, and he would be able to be his son's father, and...

...it still had some kinks. Gabriel knew Rachel's personality from Hogwarts, he had avoided her, and he had been a year ahead! So who knew how this would play out, but he was willing to see. If she did not want his attentions, he would not force his attentions on her. There was going to be no forcing, there was going to be understanding. Hopefully.

"Miss. Englewood," Gabriel greeted quietly, coming from behind Rachel. He wondered if he should have to announce that he was the one she was intended for, or if Rachel would figure it out for herself. He really hoped he didn't have to explain, "You look astonishing this evening."

Augustus did not do parties that involved costumes very well. He disliked masks that had no purpose - if they could not be sold or did not protect your identity from private activities, there was no need. As such, Augustus had agreed to attend the event with a plain gray mask and a pair of formal suit robes. He did enjoy dressing up and showing off his wealth - not too ostentatiously, but enough to show the others that he was certainly better than them.

He touched Kalista's hand (that was resting in the crook of his arm) lightly as he tried to get her attention. "Miss Rosier, would you like something to drink? We could do a trip around the room, I do have some business to conduct but I will keep it brief as not to bore you."

Patrick huffed with annoyance, "I'm not---" he nearly stomped his foot, "I'm not bloody Kirby Catchlove, I'm Buddy Holly!"

When the idiot witch gave him another blank stare, Patrick stalked away and back to his seats with Lyssandra, handing her the drinks that the idiot bartender had slowly prepared. She may have been trying to flirt with him during the process, but he couldn't waste his time with some bimbo that didn't know who the bleeding hell Buddy Holly was. His little sister's love for muggle music was not something she had developed on her own, no sir. Patrick had been a vital part of Giada's obsession, and still harbored a large collection of muggle music in his own.

Of course, the records on his walls were charmed to look like pictures of famous wizarding leaders whenever his mother made one of those surprise visits, but. She didn't do that very often, anymore.

"Can you believe everyone here thinks I'm some bloody Hobgoblin?" Patrick spat angrily, "They got some no-name band booked over them for this, and I would want to dress like their doofy guitarist? Honestly."

His eyes scanned over Lyssandra, however, "You're looking good enough to stupefy these morons."

The fact was that she'd been thrilled with the idea of going as old-school real Rock-and-Roller team. She had been hoping that he was a fan of muggle music and -- well, the fact that he was only made him even more attractive to her.

She'd been promising herself she'd behave tonight, though -- because she couldn't afford to just fall in with the same sort of people that she'd been around when she'd met Waldo. Merlin, what a fucking gong-show that had been.

She snorted when he passed her the drink, though, and gave his hand a firm pat. "The fact is that most people who live in the wizarding world exclusively suffer from bad taste in music." That's right, FUCK the Hobgoblins.

Why, why had she decided on this costume? It had been a spur of the moment thing, and her mother had agreed with it! Her mother was such an instigator, winking at her and telling her that Euan would simply love it. What did she care if he loved it! He was not her boyfriend, he should not love anything she wears!

Wait--why was she going to a ball with a man that was not her boyfriend?

Rebecca fidgeted in her seat, pulling her shawl tightly around her shoulders. This was not going the way she and her mother had giggled about, no. She had felt so pretty in her room, when all her makeup and her hair had finally been put on and finished. She was so excited to see Euan's face and now she wanted to hide under the table and disappear before he came back with their drinks.

Oh, he probably thought she was the biggest idiot in the world.

Rebecca shouldn't have been concerned about how Euan might react to her costume -- he was honestly just glad that she hadn't suggested that they wear matching ones or he'd have ended up as some sort of Arabian -- monkey!

He set her drink down on the table and then managed a faint smile (he was really trying to be respectful and keep from staring at her ... inappropriately) before he sat down next to her.

Okay, so he really didn't know many of the people here terribly well, and she looked uncomfortable. Hopefully it wasn't something that he'd done. Euan tugged at the collar of his shirt (he'd opted to go formal for some sort of -spy- look, and definitely not because that was all that was in his closet .. really ...).

"Ah, so, the music is ... nice, isn't it?"

Seth loved halloween. The dressing up, the scaring people, the pranks. Oh it really wasn't halloween without pranks. Originally he was going to the party as Jesus, because really how ironic would that be? But then only people familiar with muggle folklore would get it. He really didn't want to spend the entire night explaining his costume.

And playing vampire had way more opportunities for fun. Odette had banned him from talking to Noah but never once said he couldn't talk to her.

Although, it was more than halfway though the night and he had yet to directly talk to her. But he did sneak up behind her a few times and whispered in her ear things like 'I vant to suck your blood' then disappearing in the crowd before she could spot her.

Seth was talking with(boredly listening to..) some fan when he finally caught Odettes' gaze. He smirked slightly, now completely ignoring the girl who was talking. He bared his fangs and hissed at her.

Like he said, playing vampire was way too much fun to pass up.

If it had been achievable, Odette would have already choked Seth to death with the very chains around her wrists about two hours ago. But no, she had been reduced to clutching her necklace tightly instead, trying her best to completely ignore his looks and over the shoulder lingers. Perhaps the next time he tried to whisper yet something else creepily in her ear, her crown would leave a deep scar down his entire face for the rest of his life. She would enjoy that. She would enjoy that a lot. It was definitely something to strive for.

Finally having enough, Odette broke her ignoring game. He wanted her attention? Fine. It wasn't like he was going to get anywhere near her--- well. Anymore. She had stayed faithfully to Noah's side all night, ensuring that whenever Seth did get too close, it wasn't for long and at least out of Noah's sight.

Which was annoying as fuck, because technically he was keeping up to their bargain. But--- ugh, ugh she just hated that man so much. Not to mention Odette doubly hated it when he actually outsmarted her.

Fine, fine. Odette's hand dropped from around her neck, placing itself firmly at her side. With the fiercest look she could muster (she was worldly know for her death glare...), she simply maintained this unfortunately caught gaze. And perhaps maybe a rude hand gesture was thrown in, but only because Noah had left to go get drinks.

Chester enjoyed halloween just as much as the next person, but this party wasn't really his idea of halloween fun. He'd much rather be out on the streets terrorizing people than here at some drab party.

But he had to go. Appearances and all. You wouldn't think playing the part of a respectable wizarding citizen to be so hard.

There wasn't really much for him to do, except stand aside and watch people mingle. It was all rather amusing. Watching couples talk, one being completely bored with the other whom was completely oblivious.

He spent quite a bit of time admiring Bess from afar. She had quite the number on and Chester was very tempted to go over and talk to her. He was pretty certain that she hadn't even noticed or recognized him, because she hadn't gone into her panic frenzy mode. Which worked well for him, because he was quite busy trying to figure out who she was here with and how he could possible kill him. Well maybe not kill him, but definitely scare him off.

Lydia was only really dressed like this to tease Lucius Malfoy.

...well, all right, not to tease just Lucius Malfoy, but she'd definitely be waving her tail in front of him a little before the night was out. She stepped out in front of a male body and then back-tracked -- he wasn't bad looking underneath all of that makeup. She half-smirked at him and then turned fully on her heels to face him, hands on her hips.

"Is this the part where you tell me you've got a bone you haven't shown me yet?"

Sure they had been super amazingly adorable with Eddie the Teddy, but now she realizing she was dressed like a frumpy ragdoll! Which was all fine and dandy when trick-or-treating with your son, but not fine when you were mingling with super models in sexy outfits looking like goddesses.

She really did like being unique, and doing what she liked and what she wanted to do, but there were times when she could not help but panic about others' opinions of her. Actually, there were a lot of times where she found herself over analyzing comments and stares, but she was usually able to keep herself from getting upset about it. It really wasn't working right now!

"Why does she have to be so pretty?" Noël nearly whined as Macon came back with their drinks. Her eyes had caught sight of Noah and his fiance, and she felt like such a fool. How could she go over to looking like this and with them looking like that. "Like--I could not fit into that! Ever!"

Macon was unaware of Noël's nervousness when he went off to get drinks. He thought their outfits were perfectly normal and matched - they were married parents, there was no need to dress up sexily or in tight clothes to attract attention or to fit in. He handed her a drink and shrugged, slipping his arm around her waist and looking to where Noël was looking. He didn't mind Odette, she really wasn't his type and well. He didn't quite think she was Noah's type either, but he hadn't talked to her or anything. She had to be something special if she got Noah out of his shell.

"You're prettier," he said with a serious look at Noël, lightly clinking their glasses together with his free hand. "You're gorgeous, Ann. I mean it. She might be some quidditch star, but you're. You. You're my Noël. I don't think you should be worried about any of that. You haven't fussed about Martin's Nick," Macon said, trying his best to soothe her worries. He didn't really get why women could get jealous over each other, it was obvious to him that their men were into them and no one else.

Jen had just gotten off of trick-or-treating duty. Deciding to come here had been a big step for her. She didn't see the point of social functions much anymore but this one at least seemed like it could be fun. The mask she had picked out was over her eyes. The gold glittered at the edge of her blue eyes as she looked around. Jen hadn't been to a costume ball in ages. She had gone against the idea of a full costume. This was last minute and she had no time to go a shop and find a costume. She put on a skimpy black dress that barely skimmed her thighs and black stilettos with silver embellishments.

Jen was after anonymity tonight. A costume ball was the perfect place for that. She looked around once and with a clack across the floor she made her way towards the punch bowl. Tonight was going to be fun even if she had to force it. The ladle was dipped in and a glass was made and she looked at all the men across the room. Jen's brow furrowed underneath her mask as she took a sip. This was going to be a long night.

Theo really didn't even know why he bothered with such things as charity balls. Or anything that involved dressing up in a costume. But he received a ticket through work so she felt that he was obligated to go. He just didn't dress up. He picked up some simple black eye mask and there, he was done.

He was meandering through the crown when he spotted her across the room. She wasn't wearing a costume either. Theo smirked as he made he way over. Maybe tonight wouldn't be so awful after all.

"What's a lovely lady like yourself doing all by yourself? You date shouldn't leave you alone, someone might be tempted to steal you away."

Leaving kiddos home with a babysitter only got easier with age - after Trick or Treating, of course. Hannah would never pass up dressing her babies up and taking them around (they were all so adorable this year, little torch girl Maggie and the Oliver Thing to match her and Mark as Invisible Woman and Mr. Fantastic) to show off her absolutely perfect family. Plus, free candy was always good. They didn't eat a lot of it, but to get kids to do their chores it was not a bad plan to have a few around. Also secretaries seemed to like them a lot.

She was having a little bit of trouble with her 'invisible' hands - they were just charmed so they blended in with the surroundings, much like a disillusionment charm - but without being able to see her hands, drinking and eating things were a little bit difficult. Hannah could feel her hand and see her arm and cup, but when it came to her face it was just a little surprising to see a cup floating there. So, instead of drinking she was just holding it and contemplating asking for a straw - until movement out of the side of her eye caught her attention.

"Why hello, Mister Fantastic - and that's not just your costume," Hannah said with a cheeky grin, "You look rather dashing. Did you find your other super friends?" she asked, waving over at the Jordans. "Who would have thought we'd all have the same idea?"

It was known, by very few people in St. Mungo's, that Mark Wood was a bit of a...there wasn't a better word for it, nerd. He read a lot of books, of course; his home library nearly wrapped around his office from floor to ceiling, the personification of a Ravenclaw's dream (and also added to people's surprise when they found out he was a Gryffindor). But the kind of books that tipped the scale from intellectual to nerd were those of the animated kind.

Well, not literally animated, like the comic books wizarding children (and...adults!) read, but the illustrated kind of books. Oliver had discovered his collection a few weeks ago and had been prying for information ever since. Mark was glad to finally have something to bond with his son over, and to be able to enjoy one of his favorite pastimes. He and Healer Smethwyck often got into conversations about comics in the corridors, but their conversations were often cut short by patients needing assistance or...teasing from the other healers.

Mark straightened up a bit at Hannah's compliments and his face slid into a quick smile. They really were the Fantastic Four, super powers or not.

"I think I'm enjoying the fact that I don't know where your hands may be." Mark just barely refrained from leering at his wife, but holy hell, every curve was right there for his eyes to appreciate. They had really nailed it, this year. To make his costume look like the comic, he had performed a stretching jinx on his left arm (definitely didn't want to mess with his wand arm), so it hung nearly to the floor. It was a strange sensation, but it made for fun when poking people in the back.

...or wrapping his arm around his wife. Mark laughed as his hand nearly circled Hannah's waist, and he shrugged, "Andre and I--we think alike. Makes for a good healer."

When time came for Andre to pick a costume for the Halloween gala, there was no question what he was going to be. His alter ego, Superman, because what else could he possibly be.

He returned to his wife's, Wonder Woman of course, side with drinks and a smirk on his face. "So who do you think would win in a fight, Superman or Mr. Fantastic?" Andre asked as he handed Adelaide he drink.

It was a very important question. Not who had the better costume, but who was the better hero. For fun of course. Because it really didn't matter who was better. If you want to believe that.
