Halloween Party (for Saturday!)! Everyone!
Halloween was her favorite day of the year, outside of her birthday. And Christmas. And Valentine's Day! It was still pretty up there, considering that there were 365 days in the bloody year! Liz couldn't handle the excitement, whether it be from dressing Katie up in adorable little outfits (plural, because she simply could not pick one obnoxiously cute costume for her daughter) or doing her hair or making Ian dress up and the candy!

Ohhhh, the candy.

It was probably not a good idea to be on a full blown sugar rush when you left for a big party like this, but her fans (she had FANS!) were used to her rapid paced talk! So this should be the norm for everyone, because Liz Bell was a show stopper! The red carpet was sooo much fun, and the Bells were just sofreakinggoodlooking so why would the cameras not flash at them and sigh.

Halloween was the best ever.

"How are my buns?" she asked without looking up, unsure if she had wandered away from her husband or not. There were so many pretty costumes and lights and shiny things...it really wasn't her fault if she'd gotten lost in the crowd.

Rebecca shouldn't have been concerned about how Euan might react to her costume -- he was honestly just glad that she hadn't suggested that they wear matching ones or he'd have ended up as some sort of Arabian -- monkey!

He set her drink down on the table and then managed a faint smile (he was really trying to be respectful and keep from staring at her ... inappropriately) before he sat down next to her.

Okay, so he really didn't know many of the people here terribly well, and she looked uncomfortable. Hopefully it wasn't something that he'd done. Euan tugged at the collar of his shirt (he'd opted to go formal for some sort of -spy- look, and definitely not because that was all that was in his closet .. really ...).

"Ah, so, the music is ... nice, isn't it?"

"It is!" Rebecca was eager for a topic that didn't include anything about her outfit or work or...this was perfect! The music! The music was really good. "I missed the name of the band, however."

Rebecca smiled at Euan, glad that he was at least trying to deal with her self-imposed awkwardness. The night could have been a total disaster (though it was still early), but he was choosing to be a gentleman and let her deal with her issues on her own. That was how a man should behave, Rebecca was sure. She had often watched her father wait, bored out of his mind, at the bottom of their home's main staircase as he waited for her mother to change her outfit for the fifth time. And when she emerged? He cheered up and looked as if he had just sprung from the dressing room himself.

Men were supposed to be patient with their women. Not that--she was not Euan's woman, she was not even his girlfriend! That was a terribly annoying, and sad, fact. They had snogged a few times (oh, she was such a tart), and he was escorting her to this ball, so...maybe she was supposed to assume? Or should she simply wait for him to properly ask her?

"Is there something you've been meaning to ask me, Euan?" Rebecca prompted, suddenly interested in their relationship limbo. Her eyebrows rose quite high, and she unconsciously (or maybe somewhat consciously) let her shawl fall slightly off her shoulder.

Unfortunately for Rebecca, Euan wasn't so great with tracking the subliminal thought processes that went through her head. He furrowed his brows for a moment and then abruptly stood back up. Even though they had only just gotten their drinks, perhaps she ...

"Um. Do you want to dance?" That seemed like something a girl would want to ask at a ball, right? He wasn't at all sure where he was supposed to stand with Rebecca, and because they both had such forceful personalities it was really impossible to come to a sort of happy medium -- which was why he hadn't brought up the status of their relationship yet.

She was a young woman, after all, and she probably wanted to explore her options. He could certainly thing of blokes that were more interesting (and less difficult) than he was. So ... she couldn't be asking about relationship-type things.

Hence the dancing.

"Oh. Yes!"

Rebecca found herself quite surprised at his offer, but happily surprised. She supposed this did mean taking off her shawl, but he had asked her to dance. She stood and let it drop off her shoulders to her chair, flushing greatly as this was the first time of the night that she'd been without it. Rebecca took Euan's arm as they joined the crowd on the dance floor, conscious of sucking in her stomach and keeping her back straight and...oh, what were those tips her mother had given her?

She hoped she looked all right. Rebecca had never cared so much about a boy's opinion of her looks, it was honestly very frustrating. In school she held a very high opinion of herself, which, being in Slytherin (and roommates with Winnifred Llewellyn) was something you needed to survive, but now? Merlin, she felt like a fool, going out of her way to try and impress Euan. He obviously found her attractive if he kept snogging her.

"I'm sorry, I wasn't actually suggesting we dance," Rebecca said after a few silent moments. "I'm glad you asked!" she added, "But my thoughts were elsewhere."

Oh good, her thoughts were elsewhere - which meant that he'd incorrectly guessed what she was thinking. Well, there went being an impeccable therapist who could unwind the most intricate problems of his patients.

He tried not to think too much about it himself, though, and merely took her hand. He couldn't help if his gaze flashed down briefly to her stomach and the rest of her skimpy outfit, though he managed to cover it with a rather obviously fake cough before he glanced back up again and said, "I think your costume is very ... jingly!"

That was supposed to be a good thing, right? "I mean, it makes you sound very ... musical."

Jingly was not a word she had been expecting, but the description made her laugh and she blushed once again. Feeling a bit more confident about her attire because of his poorly disguised glance over her body, Rebecca pushed away from Euan and did a somewhat poor attempt of a belly dancing move, "They do sound nice."

Her arms quickly wrapped around his neck again, pushing close. See, she should not feel free to behave like this, in public, in an outfit like this with a man that was not her boyfriend! Rebecca wanted to not care about their status, but every time she tried to force the thoughts out of her mind, the more she wanted the label. She wanted to be his girlfriend.

"I hate being so...upfront with--us," she started, feeling her ears heat up and knowing that she'd soon be as red as a tomato, "but I was simply contemplating...wondering, really, if--if you maybe, perhaps, considered me as your--girlfriend?"

That was what she'd been asking about before? He blinked, a little bewildered, and managed a slight smile toward Rebecca. "Well, I had thought that we'd moved on beyond labels and that sort of thing, especially with how complicated things are at the hospital but -- of course."

Because he was seeing her exclusively and he wasn't planning to see other people even if she didn't 'put out'. It wasn't like he was used to -- or expected girls to just -- out of obligation. He rested his hands on her hips a little more firmly and leaned in to press a light kiss to her lips.

"I mean, if that's all right."

That was it? It was really that easy? Rebecca's chest swelled with excitement at his answer, and greedily pushed forward for another kiss. From her boyfriend. This was so exciting! Rebecca was rather proud of them, actually. There was no fumbling of words (maybe a few on her part), just a simple question about where they each believed they stood and...there you have it! All bits of life should be this simple.

"I'm really glad," she said again, finding that any more enthusiastic synonyms might ruin how easily this had happened. Rebecca pressed her face to his chest for a second, trying to regain her composure. If she let her feelings take over, she would be dragging Euan to a dark corner and letting him see how really jingly her outfit was.

Oh, Merlin! She should not be having such thoughts. Though he was her boyfriend now...

No! She was still a lady, thank you very much.
