Corner/Englewood Wedding! For New Year's Eve!
Getting married was absolutely terrifying. No matter how smoothly Gabriel proceeded through the planning, the discussions, and the actual event, he was holding back getting sick the second he could catch a moment to himself. He knew he didn't love Rachel yet, which might be the reason why he was finding himself so nervous as they sat at the head table of their reception, but he did honestly---he did honestly believe that he could fall in love with this woman. She was fiery with a mind of her own, and though some people might be irritated by it, Gabriel actually appreciated the way she took control of things. He had always been a bit of a follower, and it was easy to agree with Rachel because her reasoning simply made sense.

The reception did look fantastic. Gabriel couldn't believe it was all put together within two short months, but then again he was learning that Rachel was a woman who set her goals and refused to leave them unfinished. Maybe he should look at that as a good thing; surely someone who did not want to get married would not have put so much effort into the ceremony? Or she simply wanted to throw the most beautiful wedding of them all, simply because she could. He didn't know, and didn't mind not finding out as long as they remained content with each other.

He did find her very interesting, however, and that was the first thing a Ravenclaw looked for in a spouse. Maybe all of his concerns were for naught, and it was simply wedding day jitters. His parents had been arranged in a similar manner, and they were still quite happily married (and sometimes nauseatingly sweet about it, too). Gabriel turned and smiled at Rachel, pushing his chair out and offering his hand, "Would you like to dance?"

A chorus of glasses clinging supported Gabriel, and he flushed slightly at all the attention that was on them, once again.

ooc: guest list! We did our best, but if we missed someone let us know!

A surprise to see him here at a pureblood wedding? Well, he wasn't sure what sort of sense that made, but he was happy to see her. The more women he spoke to that his mother hadn't probably contacted informing them that he was in fact still available and of 'good wholesome stock' the better.

He adjusted the frames with a slight frown and rubbed his ear. "I suppose you're going to ask about the glasses, aren't you." Because at least if he brought it up he wouldn't have to explain in front of say, a group of people or something like that.

"Ah, yes. I am alone for the evening, much to my mother's chagrin." Why had he even brought up his mother?

Maggie blinked as he nearly whined about his glasses, her expression remaining neutral. She didn't particularly like that he was assuming things about her, but then again, all she really knew about the man was that he was handsome, a bit twitchy, and rather good in the sack. Two out of three wasn't bad, right? Enough to have another go around with him.

"They're handsome," she said assuredly, her hands moving down from his chest to grab at his hands. Maggie chose to ignore the comments about his mother and sighed happily, "And I'm very glad you decided to go stag tonight, I was looking for some proper entertainment!"

Maggie grinned broadly and tugged Braith to the dance floor; she really couldn't be spotted sitting and sulking all night! That would have ruined her perfectly trimmed reputation as life of the party! Though she really was feeling a bit tired, and it wasn't anywhere close to midnight. Maybe Braith could keep her awake.

All right, all right. As silly as it sounded, dancing was actually something that he could do well - as long as it was something fairly traditional. Like many of the pureblooded men of his generation, dancing was something -- expected. Maybe the tradition had died out in the last few years, but he remained well-trained in the art of at least not tripping over his feet on the dance floor (he made no guarantees about anywhere else, though).

"Proper entertainment?" He raised an eyebrow. Nevermind that what he considered 'proper entertainment' was more likely sitting at home and reading a good book - but then again, he'd always been a bit of a stick-in-the-mud when it came to fun. Being saddled with such great family responsibility as he had at such a young age probably explained that bit, though.

At least he could stay up past 8pm ... most nights. "I'm surprised you didn't have a line of men asking you as their dates. Or did you?" Maybe she had wanted to go alone.

It would be rude to explain that she'd come here with the plan of stealing Jonas or Rafe away from their significant others, and had...she had not chickened out, but it was simply impossible to achieve her goals when they were--ugh, happy. Maggie had no doubt in her mind if she caught either of them on an off day the challenge would be easy (because really, it was just a challenge, she wanted nothing more than to be able to corrupt them). She didn't feel like making the effort tonight, however, and was glad to have been stepped on by Braith.

"Oh, I like to keep my options open," she replied, not noticing how far into the center of the dance floor they'd gone, because they were moving so gracefully. Maggie did not have a drop of pureblood society in her (her two halfblood parents were country hicks, at best--if they had hicks in Germany, in the case of her father), but she could dance.

"I'm surprised you're alone," Maggie commented, smirking up at Braith, "Isn't it the season for your lot to be getting married off?

"Precisely why I am putting myself as far from all of the terrifying pureblooded stock as possible," he pointed out with a slight smile of his own.

It wasn't necessarily that he didn't want to get married - it was more of a case that he didn't want to ruin some poor young girl's life by marrying into a family that was headed by a piss-poor death eater like himself. He was sure that if she found him 'slacking off on his duties' she'd have one of her rich parents hire an assassin. Perhaps he was being a little extreme, but what if he somehow ended up being related to Lestrange or Wilkes? That was not something that he wanted to think about.

Braith was pleasantly surprised that she could dance - but then again, being a graceful quidditch player probably helped with that immensely.

Terrifying pureblooded stock, hm? Maggie took a moment to examine the rest of the room, and sure enough she caught a few hard, nasty glances cast directly at her. Oh, really? It was usually the other way around, blokes wondering what she saw in whoever she'd chosen for the night---oh, no, there were a few of those too, but the majority of the looks were from snot-nosed women who wanted some of this pureblood action.

Ahh, yes, this is exactly what she needed for the night.

Maggie immediately tightened her grip on him, and looked up at Braith with an expression of admiration that would hopefully lead him into more interesting things for later this evening. He didn't want to be married off like the rest of this friends, hm? Well Maggie could certainly help with that.

"How annoyed would your parents, and friends be," she said, her hands drifting inappropriately. Maggie lived her life to be as inappropriate as possible, off the field and away from cameras, of course. She was somehow the nice one of the Magpies bunch, "If they realized I was a halfblood?"

Oh sweet Merlin. As if things with Maggie weren't complex enough, she was -- well, he knew she'd have had to be some sort of halfblood because of the fact he didn't know her name from the 'proper list' -- at least she wasn't a muggle. That would have definitely put a damper on things.

He was fairly certain a good number of Death Eaters at least dabbled with the halfbloods since they were considered the lesser of the two evils, and who could really blame her since she was a bloody Quidditch player? Braith swallowed hard and glanced down at Maggie. "They ... wouldn't be pleased, that's for certain." But she was so lovely and she spoke her mind, things that he often found attractive in someone else (Amelia Doge was no exception).
