BLACK OUT!
Gabriel was silently wording his opening lines for the next segment of news when the lights dropped. He lifted his head in a curious manner, having been standing away from the news desk and wondering if it was just a backdrop thing. It wasn't exactly peculiar, there had been men working on the spells earlier this week which had caused the lighting charms to flicker and crackle. He let out a breath and stood where he was, watching as nearly everyone around him performed lumos with their wands. Gabriel supposed he should as well, and wondered if this sort of incident would mess up the wireless airwaves. He didn't know much about the magic behind the WWN, but he supposed those who did would fix things.

He muttered to his assistant that he was going to go into the corridor to see if it was only their studio that had gone out, and she quickly skittered away to find the snack trays. Gabriel let out a breath, sighing at the thought of having to stay at work later because of this delay. He had dinner plans for Rachel and the children, he did not need the annoyance of pushing back reservations. As he pushed out into the hallway, he let out a groan at the darkness. His wand was soon out and he felt awfully tired, frustrated that his day was going to be spent in near darkness.

"Do you have light?" he called out to a figure down the hall, noticing a brighter light than that of a normal lit wand. "The spells have gone out over here, it's pitch---"

Why had he been so languid in his movements just now? Darkness overcoming the WWN studios? In the middle of Diagon Alley? Diagon Alley, which was the near breeding ground for death eater attacks. Gabriel wished he had the mindset to jump to the worst possible conclusion, but the spell the cloaked death eater shot off sliced him across the side of the head, knocking him out cold and to the ground.

If he didn't die today, right now, Rachel was going to kill him.

OOC: OKAY! Magical places affected: Hogsmeade, Diagon Alley, St. Mungo's, The Ministry! The weather is terrible outside all of these places! Death Eaters are already THERE ready to get in and out as fast as possible! Lighting spells are down, candles won't be lit (all of these places had 'workers' messing with them earlier that were really death eaters foiling them. HOME INVASIONS---many wizards live in muggle areas, so they COULD be using electricity, and so on. SO....I will add with any other info/questions, just...GO :O Narratives are super welcome :O

It's for Friday! But Leigh is leaving tonight annnd I know we all work/have plans so. YOU KNOW HOW I AM :)

“Shut up…”

For the first time since she had returned, his words, though not the most pleasant of phrases, were not laced with venom, or spite – instead, they relayed the urgency that she remain quiet for the time being. He would have loved to stop and explain why, out of no where, he was dragging her through the hallways of Mungo’s after trying so desperately to avoid her for the last couple of weeks, but that wasn’t an option. There wasn’t any time, because if he stopped to explain, the short window of time he had would go to waste.

This wasn’t the first time he had been informed by his older brother that there were big events in the work, if only because Augustus didn’t want Donovan being caught in the wrong place at the wrong time. He never told him anything major, just…hints of where to not be at certain times.

Mungo’s was on that list…and immediately, his mind went to one healer in particular. One halfblood healer, who wouldn’t stand a God damn chance if she was caught in the crossfire, or even tried to take on another wizard in a duel – especially if that wizard was a Death Eater.

Donovan really knew more than he should… It was one thing, to not know anything and find out there had been an attack on Mungo’s, but knowing and just not doing anything? That was something he couldn’t do.

Looking around, Donovan entered into a closed off ward of the hospital, continuing to pull Danielle along with him. “This way.” He approached one of the many vacant rooms, a ways down and to the left, and opened the door to pull her inside, closing the door behind him. As they were walking, the lights of the hospital flickered…but it wasn’t until they were inside that they went off completely, leaving the two of them in complete darkness.

This was so---confusing! Danielle had sent worried looks toward the healers she passed, but everyone was too busy to notice and...what was he trying to do? He hadn't spoken to her since that first night in the hospital, she had thought he'd have completely ended whatever sort of relationship with her and---Danielle had been forcing herself not to think that way, but she'd partaken in some drunken nights with old friends from school that just made matters worse. Donovan hated her, it was evident now, and---well---

He shut the door and Danielle whirled around on him. "What is it? What do you want?" She was angry because she was confused, and he was confusing and--there was no reason for him to be here, or to want to speak to her in a private enough of a manner to just whisk her off. "I'm serious, Donovan, if this is some kind of joke---"

The lights shut and so did her mouth. Danielle blinked to adjust to the darkness. Had he done that? No, the hospital lights were always on, unless a patient was asleep, so this was strange, this was wrong. Danielle jolted at a loud thudding from the floor above, and her heart began to race. "Donovan---what's going on?"

She was confused and nervous, now, which ebbed her anger slightly, but it was making her terrible uncomfortable. "What's happening?"

He had only just turned around to react to her demands for answers when he found himself blinking, trying to get his eyes to adjust to the pitch-black room they were standing in. He looked up when he too heard the thud, swallowing thickly as he imagined what could have made that noise.

Or rather, who.

Even though he couldn’t see anything as he looked up, unable to see through the plaster above them to confirm his beliefs that what he had known would be happening there at the hospital started much sooner than he expected it to. It wasn’t until he heard the tension in Danielle’s voice, something that went beyond confusion and frustration that he looked in her general direction. They were still near the door, but due to the moonlight leaking in through the window her back was towards, he could make out the faint outline of her silhouette. He stared at her for a moment before he let out a nasal sigh. When he spoke again, his voice was low, quiet…basically a whisper, but not quite.

“Death Eaters…”

He allowed that to sink in for just a moment before he took a half-step towards her. “Danni, I know you have a million questions running through your mind right now, and you should…but I can’t answer any of them right now. All I can tell you is they’re here, and because of your bloodline, they won’t hesitate to kill you on sight.” Blunt, yes, but he needed to convey the urgency of the situation so she would remain quiet, so she wouldn’t lead first string of Death Eaters who were plowing through the hospital like they owned the God damn place straight to where they were hiding.

It was strange. Her first reaction to hearing that death eaters were invading St. Mungo's was not one of fear or shock. Danielle's eyes narrowed as she felt almost insulted that they would dare attack those who were weak in their beds, and the people who were trying to keep them alive. They had no morals, no sense of fairness, if---she could understand fighting aurors, but healers who had probably more than once fixed the masked cowards up when they'd come hobbling in after an attack in their casual cloaks---

Danielle shook her head. Donovan was from a respective pureblood family, it would make sense that things were whispered and warnings were spread. When was the last time that a pureblood who wasn't a death eater or a supposed 'blood traitor' had been killed in one of these attacks? It wasn't fair, it wasn't something that should be happening and Danielle could not handle this shift in her workplace. The hospital was supposed to be safe, a sanctuary!

"I have patients," she said quickly, stepping forward, her hands going up. She had---Susan Shepard, and Jackson Marsh, they were--little, their parents had been asleep in the waiting room just a half hour ago, they were---oh, God, they were muggleborn---Danielle took in a few sharp breaths, she needed to get out of there!

"My patients need me, I have to get them out, I have to get them out before the death eaters get them!"

He knew, knew this would be how she would react, and his arm extended instinctively to catch her around the waist on her way to the door, turning in order to face her now that she had moved. They were close, now…closer than they had been in years, and he might have paid more attention to the long forgotten sensation that occurred in his stomach as he felt her body pressed to his if this situation was not so urgent.

“The only thing you can do for them right now is be the one to take care of them once everything settles down…going out there right now is going to do nothing except take away a trained healer from this staff, and after this, they’re going to be exceptionally short-handed as it is…”

Even though the only light within miles was merely celestial, his pupils had adjusted to the darkness, and he was able to make her out better than he had been able to before. He realized, after a few moments, that his hand was still around her waist…but he was afraid to let her go in case she decided to run out the door regardless of his warnings.

“Don’t go.”

Again, he swallowed, Adam’s apple bobbing with the motion as he looked down at her. Those words were so hauntingly familiar, ones he had repeated so many times before when they were younger…and once again, they held that hint of desperation, regardless of whether he wanted it to be obvious or not.

“I’ve tried to stop you from leaving once before, and was unsuccessful… There’s no way I’m letting that happen twice…not when I know it’s going to get you killed.”

Danielle was more stunned by his words just now than his announcement that death eaters had invaded the hospital. She stared up at Donovan, blinking quickly, feeling like she was in some sort of dream. He hadn't said anything that specified...anything, nothing besides the fact that some part of him did still care about her. Whether it be just as a friend or romantically or---he didn't hate her. Danielle felt her heart swell in her chest as the thought raced through her head, taking over everything.

Donovan didn't hate her. He didn't hate her, oh--that felt so good to know.

She nodded involuntarily; she was not was going to leave him now, or again. Danielle knew that his words could mean nothing but what they said. He could just not want her to die, that he did not want the guilt of knowing about an attack on his shoulders. Danielle knew that her heart should not be racing like it was, but the tone of his voice...the look in his eyes...She felt like a fool, but Danielle was allowing herself to be overwhelmed by the closeness of Donovan. It wasn't until his arm had wrapped around her that she'd truly realized how much she had missed this, and the need to be closer engulfed her every sense.

Her hand reached up to his face to touch his cheek, her breaths slow and her words deliberate,

"I thought you hated me," she whispered, her eyes jumping across his face to capture every bit of him. Her eyes welled with tears as her mouth twisted, trying to hold herself together. Maybe it was the stress of the situation, or maybe it was the enormity of the realization that the love of her life did not hate every fiber of her being. Her mind didn't know, so she just let her heart take control. Danielle lifted her other hand to take Donovan's face, just staring at him as the most truth that had ever come out of her mouth began to spill, and she choked out, "I wanted to die, thinking you hated me."
