Valentine's Day Gala!

Being the defending champs gave the members of the Caerphilly Catapults many obligations, like being the MC's of this rather lavish evening...or, rather, the boys had volunteered Carys to do all the talking as they stood and looked cute in their suits. It was a job that she didn't particularly mind, she'd been in the spotlight all her life, but she grew bored of introducing generous donors and the big-wigs of the league. Carys knew about all the politics that went on behind the scenes, so she put on a good face, but was definitely not shy about voicing her opinion on certain matters.

"Oh, absolutely," she said to the head of the refereeing committee, "But when you've got one ref on the offensive side, and the foul's committed on the far end of the defense's area....I'm just saying, we should probably be taking advantage of--oh, what's it called?" Carys winked at the man, and at the reporter listening in, "--magic?"

She laughed when he huffed and excused himself, and the reporter shook her hand for the great sound bit. Carys gave a little twirl (her dress had too many ruffles not to twirl), and leaned over the counter to order another drink. The sound of something like an amused snort made her turn her head, and she raised her eyebrows,

"Something funny?"

BESS

Odette turned in her chair, her arm falling from its propped position as she moved to face away from the crowd. Where was Noah? Where was Drystan. Both of them had suspiciously disappeared from the table nearly fifteen minutes ago, leaving her to sit semi-awkwardly with Drystan's--- Bess. There better not be any funny business going on; the last time Noah and Drystan teamed together to be sketchy, Odette had been extremely aggravated throughout that entire process, which had also involved Bess.

But don't get her wrong, it wasn't that Odette hated the other woman, it was just--- she didn't love her either. She was very much a first impression kind of person (if she remembered them), and it had never really stuck well with Odette concerning Bess' frank sass to her all the time.

That was it! She really did not appreciate the sass. Though, Odette supposed, she had dealt out enough of it in the past that it would be rather hypocritical of her to dislike another person for it. Mentally sighing, she continued to sit semi-slouched in the seat with her arms dangling.

She should make conversation. Bess was sitting right across from her, also in relative silence. Odette waited a few more moments before speaking. "So," she started, speaking loud enough for Bess to assume she was talking to her. "What are your Valentine plans?"

Bess blinked a few times before she could focus on Odette, having drifted off into a tired daze as she watched the guests on the dance floor. Drystan and Noah had disappeared, like the two were prone to do, and Bess, who was really in a miserable sort of mood even though she'd begged Drystan to come tonight, was stuck at the table with Odette. Who she'd barely spoken five words to in the year she and Drystan had been married.

She didn't know why, really. Well--Bess wasn't one to let people walk over her, or talk down to her, and she and Odette had started off in a bad way, with Drystan in the middle. Not romantically, but there was definitely some jealousy things going on, attention wise. And Drystan, in his own nutty ways, had kept so many things from Odette that Bess was sure the other woman blamed on her, and there was no way to resolve any of that without calling her husband a hermit when it came to personal matters.

Or maybe he just liked to see Odette squirm, which was also rather fun.

Bess forced a smile though. She had been so excited to come to the gala after being cooped up in the house for nearly the last month of her pregnancy, and now that the baby was here (and perfect in every possible way, her little Brian boy!), she felt like they deserved a night out. And they weren't even going to be out late, Bess' maternal instincts weren't going to let them stay out past eleven!

"No idea, really," she said with a shrug. Bess didn't want anything spectacular, she honestly had all she needed---and the post-pregnancy hormones that were currently coursing through her may not be able to handle an over the top romantic gesture from her husband. "I doubt we'll be able to get a baby sitter, anyway. What about you and Noah?"
