Desmond
Skylar couldn’t believe the time, when she had first looked at the clock. Her heart had nearly jumped out of her chest as she scrambled out of the bed she had been laying in, gathering her clothes before digging out her shoes. She had only supposed to have been with her last night’s client until the early hours of the morning, but after the night he had put her through, she was a little…worn, and hadn’t noticed how late it had gotten. It was 7:38 in the morning, when she had first opened her eyes, and it had taken her about 20 minutes just to get the man to finally pay her – he wanted her to stay longer, and wasn’t at all happy about how she was rushing away.

It was already 8:33 when she was finally able to get to Desmond’s apartment building, and she was still wearing the clothes she had been wearing the night before, and she had to make a pit stop or 2 along the way just to make sure she made up for being late to his doorstep. One stop was made to pick up a special type of Syrup, to go with the Pancakes he was supposed to have been making (it was her favorite brand of strawberry – her mouth watered at the thought of tasting it again), and the other was to pick up something to wear there, and hopefully, if Desmond was kind enough, an outfit to change into after a very much needed shower.

After last night, she definitely felt dirtier.

It was 8:40 when she had been able to leave the woman’s bathroom, changing out of the dress and heels she had been wearing, putting them now in the shopping bag that was in her hand. Now in a pair of jeans and an oversized t-shirt, Skylar, or ‘April’ as Desmond had known her after all these years, waited impatiently in the elevator, her ears perking up when she heard it ‘ding’, letting her know she was on the right floor. Escaping the small metal box, she walked hurriedly down to Desmond’s door, and gave a quick knock.

“Desmond? It's April...”

She called through the door, to let him know it was her. She felt her stomach twist, nervous that he would turn her away because she was almost an hour late.

Desmond had been ... less surprised than one might've thought when April didn't show up at 8 o'clock sharp. It was perfectly reasonable for him to think that she was standing him up, considering. She'd probably only made the offer of coming to his flat personally to him so that he'd feel a little better for the evening - that was nice of her, wasn't it? Not so nice was not showing up at all, but he supposed he didn't really have any right to complain.

He had definitely gorged himself on several butter-smothered pancakes when it came to around 8:30. Fortunately for April, he hadn't stuffed all of them into his mouth by the time she had arrived at his door. He blinked, surprised, and shuffled up from his spot at the island to answer the door.

"...oh," he said, hurriedly unlocking the door and trying for a charming smile, "I didn't think you were coming." He'd figured that something more important had come up -- work, probably.

She shifted the bags in her hand as he unlocked the door, giving him a sheepish smile, only frowning when he admitted he thought she had bailed on him. “I know, I’m sorry I’m so late…” She stepped forward over the threshold, so he could close the door. Once it was shut behind them and he was facing her again, she gave him a small smile.

“So, I know I can’t make up for being late – which I really am sorry about – but I was hoping I could bribe back your affections with treats.” With that, she yanked out the tiny jug of Strawberry syrup she had purchased on her way there. “This may look like ordinary syrup, but trust me…it will blow your mind.”

He nodded absently while she spoke, sauntering over to the half-eaten stack of pancakes with a small smile. "I just thought something had come up." He wasn't angry, not really. In fact, he was probably distressingly happy that she'd showed up at all.

Once the syrup came out, he blinked. "...oh?" He eyed the bottle curiously, putting a pancake onto each of two plates and then passing one over to April with a shrug.

"And what is it about it that is going to 'blow my mind', exactly?"

She scoffed, as though he had just asked the most ridiculous question in the world, placing the bottle of syrup down onto the table before she placed her bags onto one of the empty chairs at his kitchen table. It was strange, how easily she seemed to make herself at home at his place.

“It tastes like blueberry heaven. It usually tastes even better with some real fruit, but I didn’t want to keep you waiting any longer than you already were.” She smiled at him as she reached out for the plate he was extending towards her. “Thank you.” Her hand came up to tuck some of her hair behind her ear, before she was pulling at the band on her wrist to pull her thick strands back into a loose ponytail. She was still wearing a bit of makeup, from the night before, and it was as she was pouring some syrup onto his pancake that she realized that she had never had a real morning with Desmond before - that meant he had never seen her without makeup. He usually called her at night, and briefly in the morning before she had to leave, but she found it was nice to sit and eat like-…

Well, like normal people.

As far as Desmond was concerned, his entire life was a huge exercise in normalcy. He got up every day, went to work, and came home. The routine was nauseating sometimes, and that was why he felt the need to -- shake it up -- with his personal stress-reliever. Occasionally that stress-reliever changed and he'd have April over. Not too often, of course, because he didn't want her to suspect he had feelings for her - but more and more often lately.

He needed the company. "Well then. I suppose we'll see whether it lives up to your dazzling reviews, won't we?" It was nice to have breakfast like normal people might. He took a bite of the pancake.

"Oh, it's very ... sweet! But good." He just wasn't used to such strange things - fruit syrup.

"How are you ... feeling this morning?" He ventured, hoping she wouldn't take offense to him asking about her previous evening. She'd just seemed so tense before going out that he wanted to make sure things had gone all right.

Her brows were hoisted up as she folded her arms on the table, her lips tugging up into one cheek in the form of a crooked smirk. “I suppose we will.” She watched as he sectioned off a piece of his breakfast, anxiously waiting for him to take a bite so she could know what he thought of her blueberry flavored gift. His reaction caused her to grin before trying for a smug expression as she straightened up and started cutting into her own pancakes. “Told you.” When she looked at him again, she gave him another smile, and then lifted the fork to her lips, letting out a hum of satisfaction as the sweet syrup hit her tongue, her eyes closing as her shoulders visibly relaxed. She took comfort in the little things, and reopened her eyes to turn those baby blues down to her plate, cutting up a bit more as she chewed.

She paused though, looking over to him when he asked about how she was feeling. She stared at him for a moment before looking back to her food, prodding at it a bit before she swallowed her food and then gently cleared her throat, reaching forward for the glass of water he had put out for her.

“Alright. A little tired, but,”

She then looked over to him, giving him a genuine smile.

“I feel much better, now.”

It was then that she placed the next bit of food between her lips, pulling it off her fork. She lifted her hand to cover her mouth, since she was still in the middle of chewing when she spoke again, and didn’t want to be even more rude than she already was being, talking with food in her mouth.

“How are you feeling this morning?”

Oh, she was so clever, turning the conversation around on him...
