Halloween Haunted Castle Event! Open to Everyone!
While she wasn't particularly keen on parties, she was set on saving wildlife. Everyone else seemed to rake in the galleons by throwing large events, no matter the scandals that erupted from them, so why couldn't they? Nora had conservatory's committee for quite some time now, and being the youngest by a good forty years, had devised this plan as a new and fresh way of funding. It helped greatly that she had friends that had access to some of the best party planners (or that she could twist Charlie Spinnet's ear until he helped her out), and things seemed to have turned out well. So far.

For the brave at heart, there was a grand maze that made its way throughout the haunted castle. Guests would be offered clues to get themselves to the ballroom, and if they were truly lost (as Nora was sure was to occur), for just a small donation (it's for charity), any money dropped into a clue box would light up a blue path down the correct route to lead the way out. With all the Gryffindors that Nora had put on the guest list, she was sure they were going to triple their goal.

There was a simpler route than the maze, which was simply to walk through the double doors to the dance floor. Nora was currently wavering between the two, having run out of pamphlets to give out at the front entrance therefore giving her no excuse to join the festivities. She felt rather exposed, as Delilah had stolen her cloak, and when someone tapped her shoulder she jumped nearly a foot in the air.

"Bloody hell!" she let out, spinning around. "You scared the life out of me!"

She was going to throw up. Rose already could feel the bile gathering in the back of her throat, and there was no way in stopping it, only temporarily postponing it. Yes, truly, it was a trying effort on her part to withhold herself, only made more difficult with every passing second that Octavius stood before her, holding his hand out for her to grasp. Surely, surely this was another trick, did boggarts work like that? No, of course they did not, because when it came to reality, it was always much scarier than anything else.

Her face heated up significantly as she lingered on the ground for a few more moments. How utterly lovely she must have looked, sprawled across the ground like a whimpering fool. Yes, exactly the kind of message she had hoped to send him after all these months. Any strength that had returned to her earlier quickly vanished again, so it was with a shaky and tentative grip that she took Octavius' hand.

"I--" Her attempt at speech was just as astounding as her current wit, perception of reality, and internal balance. Rose nodded her head quickly, using the time to swallow down as much anxiety as she could. "Thank you," she murmured, gaze lowered. She certainly could not look him in the eye, so instead took it upon herself to glance around this maze of horrors (that had suddenly become suspiciously empty). Nothing, and no one, had shown up besides Octavius, leaving them alone in this dark corner.

"I don't---" Rose looked down, and realized she had yet to unclench her death grip on Octavius's hand. She hastily released him. "I don't know what I was thinking."

He was unable to lift his gaze from the hand of his she'd been clinging to, wondering when the last time he had Rose Knightley was. Immediately, of course, this very day last year came to mind, and of the heated words they'd exchanged, and Octavius was promptly nauseated. Then he remembered that no, there had been an evening last November that she had come by his house…

"Probably that you were going to die," Octavius said matter-of-factly, jamming his hands in his pockets and rattling the Gobstones that sat in their depths, reminding him once again of his moronic costume. He had a name tag on and people still asked him who Roderick Kegg—he glanced down at the badge on his chest and quickly amended, Roland Kegg—was. What had he been thinking, to put on this get up?

Right, Octavius had thought it would be ironic.

Moronic, ironic. A mix-up was understandable.

"I've, er—run into one of those things once at the station," he muttered, eyes darting in the direction of the banished Boggart. "If you're not ready for them, there's a lot of pants-wetting involved." Gaze flashing back to her, Octavius stumbled to quickly say, "Not for you, I meant me. I mean—"

Wincing only minimally, he rubbed the back of his neck in slight agony. "Can we—pretend I didn't say that? You look nice. Are you sure you're all right?"

Rose blinked blankly, finding that Octavius' manner of speech to be far too fast for her crawling mind. Her lips parted and her jaw unhinged slightly, establishing a wonderfully dumb expression for Octavius when he finally turned back to look at her expectantly. Had he just mentioned wetting his pants? And was he-- her eyes squinted to read the small name tag on his chest. Roland Kegg? And she needn't be reminded of the fact that all of this was taking place in the middle of a surprisingly terrifying maze of supposed entertainment...

Right. This was a completely normal occurrence. Abruptly being terrified out of your wit's end to only be saved by your ex-boyfriend that you hadn't seen in over a year that was, of course, charmingly polite as always (when he wasn't breaking her heart) even while talking about... unwanted releases of body liquids. Yes, totally run of the mill, other people had experiences like this all the time.

Oh, and couldn't forget the tiny fact that she was currently dating the one wizard that she had, to put politely, a bit of relations with during her and Octavius' very messy, confusing, and drawn-out break up!

Yes. There was that too. Couldn't miss that.

A nervous laugh escaped her.

"I'm sure the paralyzing fear still coursing through my body won't let me remember much else than it from this evening." Her words were painfully produced, so Rose tried very hard to strengthen her feeble smile. "But I will---" She looked down at her hands now, unable to watch Octavius straight-on anymore. Her fingers played with the folds of her dress. "I'll be fine thanks to you."

And, because he had said it first and she couldn't leave the compliment unaddressed, "You look nice yourself." Rose paused, then quickly blurted before she could think much of it, "I don't know who Roland Kegg is."

Right, no, of course she wouldn't. Any remaining shred of confidence and swagger Octavius had previously had concerning his costume withered away into nothing.

"English Gobstones… guy, he's not really," Octavius fidgeted uncomfortably, trying to reconcile the leftover adrenaline from what very well could have been a near-death situation to currently wishing he had dressed snazzier. "Had a lot of his Chocolate Frog card, so I thought—"

Octavius wasn't entirely sure what he thought, or at least what he thought he could admit to Rose in order to seem even a modicum as cool as he might have appeared to her when they had been dating, or friends, or dating, when the sound of footsteps approaching from around the hedge caused him to start.

Fearing the worst, that it may well be another Boggart, or some other monstrous creature of the same ilk, Octavius, not thinking, seized Rose's hand and began to haul him behind her when the most horrible sound echoed into the ominous, dark night.

"BEURK!"

An aggrieved spat of unintelligible garble followed the exclamation, and then:, "Rose, I cannot reach my wand, you must—cette substance gluante what is the word, this—sleem, it has—"

Octavius froze in the midst of brandishing his wand yet bracing himself from an attack, finding himself staring at a monstrosity walking towards him that both struck fear in his heart yet caused him to wonder about several things. Since when could he see Thestrals? Secondly, since when did Thestrals speak in a—french, was it?—accent, and thirdly, why was Rose on speaking terms with a French spectre of death?

But as the skeletal horse drew closer, Octavius realised a hood of some sort, or an enchantment, was pushed aside and a head of shocky blonde hair revealed itself, until—

"Oh." Trying not to blanch, Octavius dropped Rose's hand as if it were a hot coal and made to step far, far away. "I didn't—know it was him—you, I didn't—know."

Axebanger Brookstanton, looking nearly as deadly as death itself in spite of the dull green goop staining the entire left side of his body, stared at him in mild confusion before turning his annoyingly smoldering yet somehow beseeching look on Rose. "You must help me," he said.

Not even a please. Octavius tried not to gape, or stare, or yell loudly and tear at his hair, but it was a trial. Could this possibly be the worst night of his life? Were the Fates conspiring to absolutely ruin him? WAS ROSE HERE WITH AXEBANGER BROOKSTANTON?

…Were they— Octavius had to swallow air thrice to be able to say the words even to himself. Were they here together?

She must....?

The bile which Rose thought she had so properly put under control reared an ugly head, and she found herself struggling to control it (or anything, for that matter) in light of the scene unfolded before her. Out of fear of releasing her insides out onto her feet, Rose stood as if hit by a freezing charm; one had still lamely extended out toward Octavius, pleading with him to not worry (or look at what was coming), while her spine twisted uncomfortably for a proper gaze over her shoulder at Axe, who looked like a baby dragon had sneezed all over one side of his body. Her jaw dropped slightly ajar, and not really able to focus on any one thing, her brain trickled forward in thought.

Where had he--- how had he--- how was it possible that out of all the places in existence, in the world, she had found herself here, sandwiched between the two people that she had hoped, prayed, would never be in the same vicinity of each other? What had she done, what Fate had felt it so appropriate to throw her the last fifteen minutes of her life? This maze was awful, Halloween was awful, why did she continue to bother with this retched holiday?

Moments began to tick by, and Rose realized she could not put off reacting much longer. Her shoulders dropped as her hand flattened to press significantly against her stomach. It had begun to burn an acidic consumption, and before she knew it, the uneasy adrenaline running through her veins from the boggart mixed with the deep anxiety forming as to how to even remotely thread through this exchange properly, and resulted in a less-than-ideal outcome. She leaned forward and went to cover her mouth with one of her hands.

Turning away vaguely from the both of them, Rose suddenly retched forward, the remnants of her sparse dinner falling out onto the ground. Her throat burned as she threw up, her head screamed, but at least, at least it provided something else to focus on than the two wizards behind her? She hacked out a couple coughs, and closed her eyes tightly.
