New Year's Eve Masquerade! For Tuesday

Octavius believed hiring someone to organise an event for him meant they would actually organise an event for him. Unfortunately, that notion proved to be a false one when the organiser left him high and dry in the middle of the month, but Octavius persevered. With the help of himself, Mira, occasionally Lottie Sweeting, and an army of lackeys, the night of the masquerade had come together as beautifully as possible.

Lottie had, for once, actually done her job, and at either entrance of the grand foyer were attendants handing out beautifully crafted half-masks to party-goers, and collecting them as people left. The ballroom was majestic and shimmering, the music was softly thrumming, the drinks were pouring, and the mood was infectious. All in all, Octavius thought, it was a satisfactory night to end a rather satisfactory year. After the chaos and excitement that had chased him all throughout 1983, he was rather happy to have had a (comparably) quiet year.

"Can you make sure Miss Warbeck is ready to begin?" he murmured to an attendant nearby who then scurried off. The Wizarding Wireless Network had, after all, promised a wonderful surprise at midnight! Octavius needed to ensure everything went perfectly.

The flash of a nearby photographer made Octavius scowl, annoyed was he at even the few press witches and wizards who had paid handsomely to be at the charity event tonight. The publicity was good, no one could deny that, and the masks concealed everyone's identity at least marginally so there was no grievous intrusion on privacy, but that didn't mean Octavius enjoyed their presence.

He rolled up the sleeve of his dress robe to check his watch, then his eyes darted back to the stage. It was five minutes to midnight! What, for heaven's sake, was Celestina Warbeck taking so long to appear onto an already dressed stage? Shaking his head agitatedly, Octavius cut through a path through the brightly coloured bodies in the mingling crowd to check on his star performer.

OOC Read this for questions, or ask me! Fluid time, so feel free to thread before/after kisses. Again, the "compulsion" to find your kissing partner kicks in 5-10 minutes before midnight and could be anything from thinking you should walk and get some punch to being mystifyingly sexually attracted to the masked stranger at your side. HAVE FUN! GO WILD ♥ AND HAPPY NEW YEAR'S MY GORGEOUS GALS.

She...didn't know why she was here. The flyer had slipped out of the Prophet one morning and the blazing WWN symbol had caught her eye. Mattie had kept her distance from the wizarding world these past few years, but the invitation felt like some sort of sign. She'd finally put together some music that she thought could actually make it to the wireless, so maybe...maybe she'd be able to talk to someone here. Of course, her nerves got the best of her and she'd ended up standing awkwardly behind those she knew were part of the WWN team. At least it had let her catch wind that the Celestina Warbeck was going to perform at midnight, and at the moment it was really all that was keeping her there.

Mattie nursed her drink slowly, having held onto the same glass since she'd arrived. The masks were keeping her from recognizing any familiar faces, but it also helped her keep off to herself. Everyone seemed to be enjoying herself, and she smiled at a rather lively couple on the dance floor. Okay, okay, it was a nice evening. Her smile widened, a lovely feeling coming over her, and she turned around to find...to find...

She didn't have the chance to figure out what she'd gone looking for. A pair of strong arms wrapped around her waist and kissed her so hard that her knees buckled; thank Merlin she'd thrown her arms around his neck to pull him even tighter.

Flynn couldn't think of anything more depressing than going stag to a New Year's Eve party, but as per usual his friends had talked him into it. He tried telling them he had a comic due by the end of the week that he hadn't even started, but they were determined to get him out. They told him he needed to mingle and that interacting with his cat didn't count as socializing. He tried telling them he had a comic due by the end of the week that he hadn't even started, but they were determined to get him out. They told him he needed to mingle and that interacting with his cat didn't count as socializing. This helped put things into perspective, and he threw on a pair of dressrobes and went to try and interact with actual people.

He thought he had been doing a pretty good job, for the most part. Flynn was outgoing and didn't have trouble talking to people, he wasn't very good at making conversation. He just didn't know what to say, seeing how there weren't many people who, well...got him. He had been called 'weird' on a few occasions, but he always let it roll off his back. He was who he was.

Thinking that he would have just one more drink, and maybe manage to slip out just before midnight - you know, to avoid that embarrassing moment of being one of very few people in the crowd who didn't have anyone to kiss - Flynn made his way towards the bar. He placed his order, though suddenly his brows furrowed behind his mask and he turned to look over his shoulder, catching a glimpse of pink out the corner of his eye. Whoever was wearing the dress captured his attention, so much so that he walked away without his drink. He moved through the crowd, feeling this desperate need to get to her. He wasn't sure how many minutes were left until midnight, but the sight of this woman made him feel as though midnight were hours away. He couldn't wait, he needed to kiss her right then and there, and without thinking twice about it, he pulled her towards him, pressing a firm kiss to her lips. The scent of her perfume made his head spin in the best kind of way, and as he pulled away from her he blinked his eyes, trying to focus on the eyes that were peering back at him from behind her mask. His smile was crooked, but his arms hadn't left her waist.

"Is it bad luck to kiss before midnight?"

He'd taken her breath away, so Mattie couldn't quite answer him. She felt dizzy, light-headed and just...just...wonderful. Mattie had never been kissed that way, she was sure. His arms fit so perfectly around her and he was...he was...he was simply perfect.

"I hope not," she said softly, eyes dropping down to his lips. The urge to kiss him reared up again, but her thoughts grew fuzzy. Her mask had been knocked slightly askew, and she adjusted her mask back on properly. Oh. Mind was once again clear, and all she could possibly do with herself was kiss this man. Mattie put her hands on his cheeks and studied him carefully before kissing him again.

A New Year, a new story to tell.

His lips were sweet and it made her wonder how he was planning to spend the rest of the night. She hoped it was with her. She hoped that he never left her side. Mattie let out a sound of pleasure into his mouth, hands curling into his hair.

The chaos of the crowd around them was silenced by this glorious kiss. The mass of bodies bumping into them and rushing around could not break them apart. Nothing could, she was sure. She was going to write the most beautiful of songs about this man behind the mask.

Flynn could feel his pulse quickening as he deepened their kiss, the taste of her lip gloss making it all the more difficult for him to resist her. She was like a drug that he couldn't get enough of, and all he could hear despite the chatter of the crowd was their breathing, and the needing moans that came from the back of their throats between each kiss. He adjusted her in his arms, trying to keep his hold on her.

There was definitely something going on around them; something that was working people into some sort of frenzy. He was sure he heard one or two people get slapped, which was was brought his attention to his surroundings. He pulled away from her in order to take a look around, but he found that he didn't really care as much about figuring out what all the bustle was about as he did kissing her. He turned back to her, moving some hair away from the flower in her mask. God, she had the prettiest smile.

"Come with me," he said a smile, moving his arms in order to take one of her hands. He leaned in to give her one more kiss, which turned onto two, and then three, before making an attempt to lead her to a less chaotic location.

It was exhilarating! Mattie had not felt her heart beat this fast in such a long tim! Her smile reached her ears, she laughed as they attempted to disappear together but couldn't because their lips would not allow them to. When they finally managed to separate for long enough, she allowed him to pull her through the crowd, watching their hands with a loving gaze. How romantic.

Mattie was about to tug him back to her for another kiss when she tripped, causing her to lose grip of his hand and drop to the ground. Her mask, which was already loose around her head because of his hands in her hair, slipped out of its tie and to the floor. Mattie pushed herself up quickly, getting knocked about by the crowd who she now realized were frantic not because of the New Year but...there were angry shouts, fights breaking out, it was a madhouse!

And she...she had just been snogging a completely random bloke that had literally plucked her out of the crowd. Her jaw dropped in shock and she turned quickly, weaving through the crowd and away from where she had last seen him. What was in that drink of hers? How could she have let him...

Mattie burst through one of the exit doors, completely forgetting about the cloak she'd left behind. Her fingers lingered on her lips, thoughts drifting back to him. Mattie took one look over her shoulder before hurrying out to the pavement to call for a cab. There was no way she'd be able to disapparate tonight.

He felt her hand slipping away, and while he tried to adjust his grip he found the effort to be futile. Pushing his way through the crowd, he tried to find her, but there was just too much pink. He wanted to try and shout out her name, but he didn't know what it was - he didn't think it would do much good even if he did, seeing how there was so much going on around him. Figuring that taking off his mask would help him get his bearings, he removed it. Not only did it help him see better, it got him to think clearly for the first time since he had put it on, causing him to look down at it with furrowed brows.

"What the-...?"

He rolled his lips under, tasting the gloss that lingered from the heated kiss he had just shared with...someone. Oh God, who had he just snogged? Just a few moments ago he didn't care who she was; all he knew was that he wanted her - no, he needed her. He had to at least try and find out; maybe apologize or...something. What was the appropriate course of action when one was in such a situation? He didn't even know what the situation was.

He pushed his way through the crowd, finally getting outside, wondering if he'd be able to find her and if he would be the next bloke getting a slap to the face. He stood outside, lifting the hand that wasn't holding his mask in order to scratch the back of his neck.

Whoever it was, she was long gone, but that didn't mean he'd stop wondering.
