Guests of the PENNIFOLDS!
She could honestly say that she had not been happier in her life. Today, it marked the official beginning to the rest of her days, and Graciela Pennifold was grateful for all that God had brought her. Edward was a literal dream come true, Zacharias was growing into such a smart, charismatic young man, and her friends and family loved their little family enough to venture out to her homeland of Portugal to celebrate their wedding.

Their wedding! It had been a long time coming, but they were here, she and Edward were now husband and wife. The Pennifolds! She would never get tired of it, never. As she fluttered happily between the tables of guests and managing to not trip on the skirt of her dress, Graciela's smile could not falter. Switching from English, to Portuguese, to even a little Spanish, Graciela's mind was a whirl of joy and excitement. There was dancing, twirling, laughing, and kisses on top of kisses.

Graciela had never been happier.

After a particularly big twirl out of her brother's arms, Graciela's trajectory sent her straight to Edward. Her husband. She laughed in excitement at the sight of him and of course greeted him with a kiss, which was accompanied by hoots and hollers and clinking champagne glasses.

"Casamento fica bem em você," she murmured, having been lost in her native tongue. She hung her arms lazily over his shoulders and Graciela scrunched her nose, "Marriage looks very good on you, meu amor.

Portugal, it seemed, did wonders for her and Adrian.

Their schedules had worked out wonderfully, with both of their teams having early Friday matches that allowed them to arrive in Portugal later that evening. It was a welcome holiday away from the busy season. They were getting some much needed alone time with their children staying with Adrian's mother, and it was a delight to be attending a romantic and intimate wedding. Adrian was friends with everyone in Portugal (and working his way through the United Kingdom), so Maggie didn't truly know his connection to the bride, but she was happy for the couple nonetheless.

She smiled brightly as Adrian graciously signed autographs and took pictures with his fans that were in attendance, which seemed to be nearly everyone. Maggie'd gotten her fair share of attention, which had surprised her before one of the women pulled out a magazine clipping of Maggie being on a 'mais bonito' or most beautiful list. Apparently her hairstyle was quite the hit in Lisbon.

Maggie had not been feeling beautiful this morning, when she found herself getting sick in the loo. She'd brushed off Adrian's concerns with the idea that she was still dizzy from the portkey ride, but something clicked in her mind. Now, after her suspicions were confirmed, her foot bounced with excitement and anxiety. Their timing had never been perfect, but it seemed like Portugal knew how to make it work.

"You are going to get cramps in your hand," Maggie mused as Adrian finally returned. She took hold of his writing hand to massage it and hold it tightly in hers. "Are you mine for the rest of the night or no?"

It was days like these that made Adrian ache for Braga to bring him home. More experience, they said, more practice-- only when the time was right would he be brought back to Portugal for good. And while Adrian knew that going to England had brought him many wonderful things in his life, and staying there had brought him so much more, he couldn't help but wish...

Adrian shook his head slightly, and patted down his hair to his forehead with his free hand. He was glad Maggie was here to remind him why he should always be thankful for every one more day he could stay in England over his home country. Just being here, with his people in his country, was making him especially homesick, that was all. He wouldn't ever, in a hundred years, give it the life he had now with his family and friends, so return back, so. So. That was the end of that thought. He would enjoy the comfortable and familiar atmosphere, entertain as many fans and supporters as he could and not feel the slightest bit melancholy about it.

"My duty to Portugal never rests!" Adrian replied obediently, nodding his head briskly. Despite his unwavering dedication to his people however, that did not stop Adrian from slouching in his chair from pure comfort. Maggie was extremely talented at hand massages.

Adrian's feet kicked up to rest on the base of the table and once fully reclined, his head lolled on his shoulders to look at her. A dazed smile appeared on his face. "But I think time with my wife is now."

"That's good to know," Maggie said with a sagely nod. "We have some important topics to discuss."

It was a good feeling to smile honestly. There were few things in her life right now that could pull a real grin from her, and Adrian was always on the top of that list. Maggie liked seeing him so happy, and as she massaged his hand her mind wandered to the future, when they could retire here and live happily on the beach and in the sun. She wanted their children to go to Hogwarts, of course, so during the school year she'd want to be in England, so...there was time to plan. But Maggie liked to think about her future, her future with Adrian, the future that had once been so delicate and now was solid as stone.

Maggie hummed along with the music. She played with his long fingers, rough from his years playing beater. His hands were one of the first things she noticed about Adrian, and she hoped his son would inherit their strength.

"What do you think of the name Cristiano?" she asked slyly. Maggie's lips smiled thoughtfully, and she intertwined their fingers. Turning to him, she dipped her chin. "Or what about Rafael? It has the 'f' like Josef."

She felt herself begin to grow warm, and Maggie began to wonder how long she could play this game before she burst.

Adrian paused for a moment, feeling a beat skip as his mind moved to catch up with the shift in conversation. He had not realized Maggie had been feigning faux seriousness. Though, he supposed, he still was not very good at catching English humor, even after all these years. It was just so misleading with all their serious tones and gestures-- how were you supposed to know?

Adrian shrugged, and propped his head back into the base of the chair. "They are alright," he conceded, not thinking much of it. Though he did have a former teammate named Cristiano. He had been alright, he supposed.

"I was teammates with a Cristiano at Braga," Adrian mused aloud, eyes now squinting as he thought back to his former teammate. He wondered if the chaser was still with the team. "He spent a lot of time on his hair and face. To make it look good." He let out a sigh, opening his eyes wider to look at the fairy lights and candles floating high in the air. This reception truly was beautiful. He smiled, as it made him think back to his and Maggie's party.

"Not to worry, meu amor," Adrian responded seriously now, intent on heaving out a dose of English humor. He raised their locked hands to his lips and kissed her fingers. "He was not as good looking as you."

Maggie worded a silent 'oh,' amused at Adrian's faux-seriousness. Her eyes crinkled with delight and she let out a sigh, "Thank goodness, you know how very jealous I get."

Her tone sounded like a joke, but Maggie's green monster flared easily at the mention of his old teammates, though more specifically the women. She knew, she knew she had nothing to worry about with Adrian, but with how adored he was by seemingly everyone in Portugal, it made sense that those he actually played with would love him even more than the fans. It was silly and stupid, but she often sniffed in annoyance quite deliberately when those girls came around for a visit.

But on to happier things, because jealousy only wasted time and energy. Maggie tightened her grip on his hand, and decided that her game was going to go absolutely no where, especially with their current train of conversation.

"I'm glad you told me that," she said happily, bringing their hands down to rest on her lap. With her eyebrows high, she unlocked their fingers and pushed his hand deliberately against her stomach. Maggie kept her gaze on Adrian's face, not daring to miss a moment of his reaction. She was so happy to be able to give him good news. The last time she told him she was pregnant, they weren't even together and she knew they had missed out on a wonderful time in their life. This was going to be different, she knew for sure, and she smiled widely.

"I would not want to have named our son after someone so vain."

Adrian's thoughts had been circling on how his wife could become quite prone to jealousy in situations that most certainly lend to it when Maggie spoke again, and he was thankful for a redirection in the conversation. He hadn't, however, been paying close attention to what she was doing, and only perked up from his slouched position in his chair when he felt his hand press against her stomach.

Wait---

His eyes fell to where she had placed his hand, and quickly Adrian brought his gaze back up to Maggie's face. Despite her making it very clear, he still found himself needing second, third clarification of what she was conveying. A faint part of his mind thought that perhaps Maggie could be talking about Josef, because he was their son, too, but thankfully, after a few more beats of quiet reflection, Adrian ruled that out. So that only meant....

Suddenly, Adrian toppled his chair over as he jumped him from his seat. Bursting with excitement and joy, he cradled Maggie's face with his hands. He squeezed her cheeks, perhaps a bit too tightly, but he couldn't control himself.

"É mesmo?!" he cried, unable to control his slip. In the moment he forgot that he was in public, and most certainly forgot that they were surrounded by people that wouldn't care much his loud noises. But they were not having a baby boy, now where they?!

Promptly, Adrian burst into tears. Making more loud and fussing noises, he continued to hold Maggie's face. But wanting to be close to her, he quickly crouched down to his knees and turned to look up at her fondly.

Truly?

"Esta é a notícia mais maravilhosa!!" Adrian bellowed, his smile wide from ear to ear.

He was so happy! Maggie was smiling harder than she'd smiled in ages and yes, tears stung her eyes as she watched Adrian become so emotional. She had known he would be excited, but it still surprised her to see---oh, this was the most beautiful moment. To be able to give him something that could elicit such joy was---this was wonderful. It was wonderful!

Maggie nodded excitedly, reaching forward to brush his tears away. This was absolutely worth the next nine months, it made missing the quidditch season seem like not a bother at all. Josef and Adeline would be the best big siblings, once they grew accustomed to the small, screaming bundle. A boy, a boy! She wanted him to look just like Adrian, to have his smile and his laugh, to be just like his father.

“I found out this morning,” she managed to say through her tears, moving forward to kiss him soundly. It had been so hard to keep her secret from him for just a few hours, but she knew that if she had revealed she was pregnant before the wedding, she and Adrian would not have made it out of their hotel room.

Her face was hot with excitement and adoration. They had been through so much and to be able to be this blessed and happy was truly—Maggie sighed contently as she draped her arms over his shoulders. “A little boy!"

Edward's face brightened, a feat rather significant as it had been quite bright all day and night. "It does?" he asked, and looked down at his own front. He Knew he looked fancy, as well-made robes tended to do that, but Edward was glad to know that his new wife thought his new title sat well on his shoulders.

A wife! He and Graciela had finally married! The fact had not really fully settled in yet, he suspected, as it all felt no different. Edward had taken solace in the fact that his and Graciela's life was not going to change much from this because they had already been living it. It was nice to have their friends and family here to celebrate them, but Edward knew something like a piece of parchment hidden away somewhere in the Ministry or the like wasn't going to effect his growing love for Graciela. No, she sustained that all on her own. Though, he supposed, having a party was very nice. He did like receiving gifts and seeing Graciela so happy.

"That is good to know," Edward responded seriously, nodding a bit as well. "I was worried I would be ill-suited."

He thought for a moment, and then responded once his hands rested around her waist, "It looks even better on you. You look so happy."

She did not think she could truly ever express to Edward how lovely he made her feel. From the inside out, Graciela always felt wonderful in his arms, in his presence. That was what love was, this was the kind of love she tried to put into words in her novels. She wrote love stories that were vastly different from her own, but she hoped to convey the sensation of feeling whole with that person you were meant to be with. Graciela felt complete with Edward, as if there were no questions left to be unanswered. Her life had taken the path less traveled, but it had led her straight to him.

"I am," she said, eyes bright and filled with adoration, "and thankful for you."

Edward may not feel the difference between their life yesterday compared to today, but Graciela finally felt at peace. To promise to be faithful, to be there for him until death do they part, to have him vow the same in front of her entire family, their families, in front of God, well. Well. Graciela thanked magic for keeping her makeup so perfectly in tact, because she had been overwhelmed with emotion.

"I am so lucky to have found you, Edward," she said honestly, feeling her eyes well up once more. Not many people got amazing the second chance that she did.

His face ticked at the recognition of sadness in Graciela's face, and quickly Edward felt flustered. She should not be crying on her wedding day, she should be happy for this was---

His thoughts faltered for a moment as he remembered while this was the first time he was and planned to marry, Graciela had thought the same thing not too long ago and now here she was again. It was more complex than he had initially assumed seconds ago, a fact that he, admittedly, sometimes forgot. Edward hadn't much pressed Graciela for details from her previous marriage, thinking it unwise to ask for information and stories that most certainly did not concern him. When she felt it necessary, he knew she would tell him whatever relevant. But for now, Edward was content with only looking at the future.

"No," he responded clearly, raising his chin slightly. Taking his hands, he cupped both sides of Graciela's face. The only kind of tears that should be falling down her face today would be those of gut-splitting laughter from his excellent toast to his wife (that Derek had so graciously helped to spruce up). Edward knew it wasn't traditional for the groom to make a toast in all the mix of toasting and dinner but.... he had thought it appropriate.

"I am lucky to have finally found you," he established, a content smile forming on his face. "I am much less capable of being social, you have worked a miracle on me." Alright, perhaps he was plagiarizing his future self already, but it was the truth.

Gleny!

Vinny found himself lingering outside the barn the reception was in. He'd enjoyed the rustic atmosphere, and the rolling hills around them created a great sense of intimacy. He'd known Graciela since they were eleven years old and he was glad to see her so happy. Even Edward was someone Vinny could call a friend, the bloke having tagged along on more than a few of his and Derek's adventures (or, perhaps, being used as bait, but that was besides the point---). It was nice to have a reason to smile.

Except Vinny had let his mind wander and roam, and soon his smile was gone and he had needed to get some air. He'd left Gleny at their table with a whisper in her ear about stepping outside, but that had to be at least three songs ago. He leaned against the side of the barn, hands deep in his jacket pockets and his eyes squinting out toward the sunset. He didn't know why his mind still played these games with him, started these tricks, but it created a cloud of confusion that he wanted to dissolve.

Maybe he was over thinking things. Maybe he was getting ahead of himself. Maybe he was right, but he sorely didn't want to be. Vinny shut his eyes, attempting to force himself to remove all negative thoughts from his mind so that he could return to the party and start taking Derek shot for shot like they'd promised each other at the portkey terminal. Right, right, priorities, deep breaths for priorities.

Nearly twenty minutes passed before Glenda realized her date had been gone for as long as he had and she settled on finding him. She supposed, as she excused herself from The League of Extraordinary Hufflepuffs Table (as it had so been deemed), that Vinny could've easily ran into another friend neither of them had been aware was attending this small but surprisingly familiar wedding, but deep down, she knew that most likely hadn't been the case.

Weddings were... difficult. And not because of jealousy, or uncomfortable thoughts of dedication brought on about your significant other, but because it was... not easy to overcome the quiet distress of the recognition of having, and losing, something as special that the people before you were currently celebrating. She couldn't say she enjoyed sharing this emotional experience with Vinny, as for a long time it had resulted in her downright refusal to attend any weddings at all, but out of everything, it was was the only thing she could think of that would pull Vinny away from the loveliness of the room and their friends. She could not blame him, and simply wanted to make sure he was alright.

As she wandered outside Glenda raised her chin to take in the warm air. The breeze glided past her neck, and for a moment, it felt sweet against her skin. How had she never been to Portugal before? Obviously, they would need to come back.

"There you are," Gleny sighed, and releasing her locked hands she hadn't realized she'd been cupping, she approached Vinny. Smiling, she lightly brushed the side of his face with the back of her fingers to pull him out of what looked like his troubled thoughts.

For a moment she thought about telling him how she had become quite the lurker whilst on the search for him, but instead, she decided on something different. "It's very nice out here," Glenda remarked, glancing up into the clear sky.

He knew she'd find him eventually. Vinny smiled gently down at Gleny and nodded in agreement as he took in the scenery. The warm air and light breeze made it comfortable enough to simply rest against the barn and take in their surroundings. It seemed like the nearest city was miles away and the stars took advantage of it. Vinny spent too much time in the city to really grab evenings to appreciate the night sky, and his hand slipped securely around her waist.

They fit, him and Gleny. They'd fit for years, as friends, as partners, and now as lovers. Vinny didn't think he fit so well with any other person in his life, but never tell Derek that, he'd get scalped. No, he and Gleny--she made him believe in fate and all that ethereal nonsense poets wrote about. He believed that they were meant to be, and that was why he found himself outside of a wonderful wedding, brooding.

Vinny had thought once upon a time that he and Marlie McKinnon were supposed to grow old together, spend their days making each other laugh and smile. And he'd wanted that, he truly, truly had, but if she hadn’t died, he wouldn’t be here with Gleny. If Gideon hadn’t—he brushed away his thoughts. How could a person be so happy and so morose at the same time? It didn’t make sense, it confused him and terrified him at the same time, but could it be that he had he finally found something worth all the pain? Did she feel the same?

He pressed a kiss to the top of her head, and he lingered, taking her in. How he loved this woman.

“You’re it for me, you know that, right?” Vinny said, only pulling back slightly. He smiled lightly, turning to face her properly as his free hand went to her hair. She was beautiful in twilight. “For the rest of my life, it’s only you.”

Her face softened, and the curled hand against his neck extended out to rest easy against his skin. It felt soft against her palm, and that helped calm her beating heart.

They had talked vaguely about the future before she supposed, but never as outright as he was now. Did it terrify her? Perhaps, but not in a way that it made her feel that she should pull or shy away from him. Glenda loved Vinny, he made her feel complete and whole, he was a good father-figure to Tristan, and he was a good person that always did what he thought was right. What was there to be afraid of? She had known him her whole life save for a quiet ten in the beginning. They worked well together, she felt at peace with him-- but all of that she knew already.

So while Glenda supposed she had never truly thought about the future of her and Vinny seriously, it dawned on her that without realizing it, she had quietly come to the same conclusion as him long ago. Was that why instead of growing cold, she felt her heart turn warm? She smiled, and felt blessed under the clear Portuguese sky.

They really would have to visit Portugal more now.

"I love you," Gleny said simply, dropping her shoulders to stand relaxed. "And I would be lying if I didn't say I feel the same."

She stopped speaking briefly, but only to raise up on the balls of her feet to hold him close in an affectionate embrace. "It's only you," she repeated, finding his words too fitting to edit in any way. Glenda pressed her lips to the side of his face, and then moved to rest her chin over his shoulder.

The weight the wedding had laid on his shoulders lifted considerably. Vinny felt a great peace take its place and he put his arms around Gleny to hold her close to him. While they fit so perfectly together, there was always a trepidation about moving things forward with their relationship. Vinny had been engaged, but Gleny had been married, she had already made that giant leap with someone she thought would be with her forever. So the worry that--he would be able to fill that role had always sat like a stone in his gut. Now, it wouldn't have to.

The air was warm and the sky was beautiful. The music filtered out through the walls of the barn and Vinny recognized the tune. He smiled and dropped his chin to rest on the top of her head. It used to make him laugh, how much shorter she was than him, but now it seemed like she was made for his arms. He laughed lightly at his thought; he was being quite the dramatic and poet, wasn’t he? That’s what she did to him, he’d never have a better muse.

Vinny took in a breath, amazed at the scene they’d created. He couldn’t think of a more beautiful place to have this conversation.

“I’ve got a ring for you back home,” he revealed. He’d had it for a long time, too, purchased not long after their first official date. Vinny had not realized until this moment that he was a bit of a romantic, but again, that was what Gleny did to him. “Nice and shiny, if you’ll have it. Have me, I suppose.”
