Guests of the PENNIFOLDS!
She could honestly say that she had not been happier in her life. Today, it marked the official beginning to the rest of her days, and Graciela Pennifold was grateful for all that God had brought her. Edward was a literal dream come true, Zacharias was growing into such a smart, charismatic young man, and her friends and family loved their little family enough to venture out to her homeland of Portugal to celebrate their wedding.

Their wedding! It had been a long time coming, but they were here, she and Edward were now husband and wife. The Pennifolds! She would never get tired of it, never. As she fluttered happily between the tables of guests and managing to not trip on the skirt of her dress, Graciela's smile could not falter. Switching from English, to Portuguese, to even a little Spanish, Graciela's mind was a whirl of joy and excitement. There was dancing, twirling, laughing, and kisses on top of kisses.

Graciela had never been happier.

After a particularly big twirl out of her brother's arms, Graciela's trajectory sent her straight to Edward. Her husband. She laughed in excitement at the sight of him and of course greeted him with a kiss, which was accompanied by hoots and hollers and clinking champagne glasses.

"Casamento fica bem em você," she murmured, having been lost in her native tongue. She hung her arms lazily over his shoulders and Graciela scrunched her nose, "Marriage looks very good on you, meu amor.

Gleny!

Vinny found himself lingering outside the barn the reception was in. He'd enjoyed the rustic atmosphere, and the rolling hills around them created a great sense of intimacy. He'd known Graciela since they were eleven years old and he was glad to see her so happy. Even Edward was someone Vinny could call a friend, the bloke having tagged along on more than a few of his and Derek's adventures (or, perhaps, being used as bait, but that was besides the point---). It was nice to have a reason to smile.

Except Vinny had let his mind wander and roam, and soon his smile was gone and he had needed to get some air. He'd left Gleny at their table with a whisper in her ear about stepping outside, but that had to be at least three songs ago. He leaned against the side of the barn, hands deep in his jacket pockets and his eyes squinting out toward the sunset. He didn't know why his mind still played these games with him, started these tricks, but it created a cloud of confusion that he wanted to dissolve.

Maybe he was over thinking things. Maybe he was getting ahead of himself. Maybe he was right, but he sorely didn't want to be. Vinny shut his eyes, attempting to force himself to remove all negative thoughts from his mind so that he could return to the party and start taking Derek shot for shot like they'd promised each other at the portkey terminal. Right, right, priorities, deep breaths for priorities.

Nearly twenty minutes passed before Glenda realized her date had been gone for as long as he had and she settled on finding him. She supposed, as she excused herself from The League of Extraordinary Hufflepuffs Table (as it had so been deemed), that Vinny could've easily ran into another friend neither of them had been aware was attending this small but surprisingly familiar wedding, but deep down, she knew that most likely hadn't been the case.

Weddings were... difficult. And not because of jealousy, or uncomfortable thoughts of dedication brought on about your significant other, but because it was... not easy to overcome the quiet distress of the recognition of having, and losing, something as special that the people before you were currently celebrating. She couldn't say she enjoyed sharing this emotional experience with Vinny, as for a long time it had resulted in her downright refusal to attend any weddings at all, but out of everything, it was was the only thing she could think of that would pull Vinny away from the loveliness of the room and their friends. She could not blame him, and simply wanted to make sure he was alright.

As she wandered outside Glenda raised her chin to take in the warm air. The breeze glided past her neck, and for a moment, it felt sweet against her skin. How had she never been to Portugal before? Obviously, they would need to come back.

"There you are," Gleny sighed, and releasing her locked hands she hadn't realized she'd been cupping, she approached Vinny. Smiling, she lightly brushed the side of his face with the back of her fingers to pull him out of what looked like his troubled thoughts.

For a moment she thought about telling him how she had become quite the lurker whilst on the search for him, but instead, she decided on something different. "It's very nice out here," Glenda remarked, glancing up into the clear sky.

He knew she'd find him eventually. Vinny smiled gently down at Gleny and nodded in agreement as he took in the scenery. The warm air and light breeze made it comfortable enough to simply rest against the barn and take in their surroundings. It seemed like the nearest city was miles away and the stars took advantage of it. Vinny spent too much time in the city to really grab evenings to appreciate the night sky, and his hand slipped securely around her waist.

They fit, him and Gleny. They'd fit for years, as friends, as partners, and now as lovers. Vinny didn't think he fit so well with any other person in his life, but never tell Derek that, he'd get scalped. No, he and Gleny--she made him believe in fate and all that ethereal nonsense poets wrote about. He believed that they were meant to be, and that was why he found himself outside of a wonderful wedding, brooding.

Vinny had thought once upon a time that he and Marlie McKinnon were supposed to grow old together, spend their days making each other laugh and smile. And he'd wanted that, he truly, truly had, but if she hadn’t died, he wouldn’t be here with Gleny. If Gideon hadn’t—he brushed away his thoughts. How could a person be so happy and so morose at the same time? It didn’t make sense, it confused him and terrified him at the same time, but could it be that he had he finally found something worth all the pain? Did she feel the same?

He pressed a kiss to the top of her head, and he lingered, taking her in. How he loved this woman.

“You’re it for me, you know that, right?” Vinny said, only pulling back slightly. He smiled lightly, turning to face her properly as his free hand went to her hair. She was beautiful in twilight. “For the rest of my life, it’s only you.”

Her face softened, and the curled hand against his neck extended out to rest easy against his skin. It felt soft against her palm, and that helped calm her beating heart.

They had talked vaguely about the future before she supposed, but never as outright as he was now. Did it terrify her? Perhaps, but not in a way that it made her feel that she should pull or shy away from him. Glenda loved Vinny, he made her feel complete and whole, he was a good father-figure to Tristan, and he was a good person that always did what he thought was right. What was there to be afraid of? She had known him her whole life save for a quiet ten in the beginning. They worked well together, she felt at peace with him-- but all of that she knew already.

So while Glenda supposed she had never truly thought about the future of her and Vinny seriously, it dawned on her that without realizing it, she had quietly come to the same conclusion as him long ago. Was that why instead of growing cold, she felt her heart turn warm? She smiled, and felt blessed under the clear Portuguese sky.

They really would have to visit Portugal more now.

"I love you," Gleny said simply, dropping her shoulders to stand relaxed. "And I would be lying if I didn't say I feel the same."

She stopped speaking briefly, but only to raise up on the balls of her feet to hold him close in an affectionate embrace. "It's only you," she repeated, finding his words too fitting to edit in any way. Glenda pressed her lips to the side of his face, and then moved to rest her chin over his shoulder.

The weight the wedding had laid on his shoulders lifted considerably. Vinny felt a great peace take its place and he put his arms around Gleny to hold her close to him. While they fit so perfectly together, there was always a trepidation about moving things forward with their relationship. Vinny had been engaged, but Gleny had been married, she had already made that giant leap with someone she thought would be with her forever. So the worry that--he would be able to fill that role had always sat like a stone in his gut. Now, it wouldn't have to.

The air was warm and the sky was beautiful. The music filtered out through the walls of the barn and Vinny recognized the tune. He smiled and dropped his chin to rest on the top of her head. It used to make him laugh, how much shorter she was than him, but now it seemed like she was made for his arms. He laughed lightly at his thought; he was being quite the dramatic and poet, wasn’t he? That’s what she did to him, he’d never have a better muse.

Vinny took in a breath, amazed at the scene they’d created. He couldn’t think of a more beautiful place to have this conversation.

“I’ve got a ring for you back home,” he revealed. He’d had it for a long time, too, purchased not long after their first official date. Vinny had not realized until this moment that he was a bit of a romantic, but again, that was what Gleny did to him. “Nice and shiny, if you’ll have it. Have me, I suppose.”
