Who: Andromeda Black and Ted Tonks
Where: The library!
What: Meetings and all.
When: Late January, 1971

She really should have been studying harder, all things considered. It wasn't that she didn't have motivation to do so -- she did want sorely to become some sort of useful person in the Wizarding World so that she wouldn't have to rely on her family's fortune for her whole life (the thought of it left a bad taste in her mouth) ... but she did like he spare time, and homework during the year just seemed like a waste.

That was why she'd gotten Elena Nottingham to do her potions work. She hadn't bullied her ... much. It had been more of a gentle sort of half-true prodding, really!

No, really.

Andromeda tapped her sugar quill against her lower lip and kicked a foot up onto the table in front of her, leaning back in her chair far enough that the front two legs lifted up off the ground.

Okay, applications of wormwood include...

Merlin, she was bored already.

Wait wait wait wait wait wait---

Ted arched a brow at her weak little shove, and he wondered if the same girl that had grown up with Bellatrix Black could possibly be that shitty at shoving a man off of her; because seriously, he hadn't even moved, and that hadn't felt like it was so much something she had her heart in.

Oh, this was good. This was so good, so much better, even, than he had imagined it could be.

In the few centimeters that were still there to separate them, Ted leaned forward most of that distance, his palms aching as he had to grip onto his bearings even tighter to avoid falling. He rested his forehead against Andromeda's and looked straight into her eyes--which, at such a close distance was slightly painful, but it did at least make it impossible for her to look away like that. "Come on," he said with a quiet laugh, "You're not going to tell me to excuse you after you've captured my attention so thoroughly, are you?"

Good? Merlin, this was no good at all. Ted was leaning closer to her than she'd thought was even possible considering the angle that she'd pulled him in at and he was talking again -- fucking hell, this was nerve wracking. And she couldn't look away from him right now. Her mind was racing with all the reasons that this was a terrible bloody idea but it was hard to take any of them seriously when he was so close ... so she did the first thing that came to mind and muttered something about not asking nicely more than once before she smacked him.

Rather hard, in fact -- harder at least than she'd been meaning to, but she'd felt cornered despite bringing this situation on herself -- and the moment that she'd done so she managed to muffle her squeak only by bringing her hand up to her mouth and looking rather shocked.

Oh, I really should say something...apologetic.

But apology had never been the strong point of any member of the Black family tree.

Ted had no idea what had just happened. One minute he was only a thought away from kissing her, and then without warning she'd flipped all crazy bitch on him and smacked him! And--she was the one that had pulled him in, so Ted didn't even know how the hell that logic was supposed to work. Sure, he'd encroached even further upon her personal space than she had made him already, but it could still be argued that this was her fault entirely!

Reeling a little, he stepped back from her, nursing his stinging cheek. She really had to have learned a thing or two from her sister, not the least of which was how to hit a guy--that had hurt far more than any slap from any girl should hurt.

"Seriously?" he asked, wide-eyed but undeniably agitated. "Seriously? What the hell is wrong with you?"

That was possibly the least helpful thing she could possibly have done, she decided. Andromeda frowned, leaning her head back against the wood of the chair with a loud 'thunk' so that she wouldn't have to watch the way he was cradling his cheek.

"Do you really need to ask what the bloody fuck's wrong with me?" She snapped, still staring pointedly at the ceiling. This was not in the least bit his fault -- except for him being so bloody handsome, of course -- and she knew she shouldn't have been pushing this further, but at least if he thought she was a crazy bitch, this problem could be avoided completely.

"Look, you just need -- to go. Please?" She'd already made a damn fool of herself, after all. No need to prolong it.

Maybe he was a fool for hoping, but Ted had actually had a shred of faith that she was going to apologize to him. For just a second, he thought that maybe she was a decent person who cared when they smacked someone, even if it was someone so much more lowly than herself--someone who apologized when they did something wrong, no matter how demeaning it was.

But, no, of course not. He had been stupid to ever have faith in a Black girl, not when he already knew what they were like. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

Well, at least he wouldn't make that mistake again. Ted's hand dropped from his cheek and he shouldered his bag again. "You don't have to ask, I'm already gone," he scoffed at her, turning on his heel to leave the Library.

Really fucking stupid.
