Draco was sitting in the living room of his and Merlin's new house, staring at the two letters that had come in the mail. They weren't for him, but Merlin wasn't home from work yet and not knowing what they said was driving him crazy. He pulled out his phone, texting to check that he was at least on his way home. Draco wanted to open them. One was from University College London and the other was from Cambridge. They were even the same thickness so Draco couldn't speculate their contents based on that. It was frustrating.

He got to his feet, walking over to the cupboard Arnie and Tullah had given them so he could pull out some of the booze they kept hidden in it. Either way, they'd need a drink. Accepted or rejected. Draco wasn't even sure which school he hoped her. UCL was great. It had a great law program. It was in London. Cambridge was Cambridge and he knew his parents expected him to do the Oxbridge thing. Draco just... had to try and not be selfish when Merlin opened his letters, even if being selfish was his first instinct.

	Merlin liked the new house, even if it was a bit further from his new job. It was nice and private and he and Draco could turn up the telly as loud as they wanted. 	Draco did not have time for Merlin's honey, I'm home shit today. He held the letters up. "You got two letters from two of your top schools," he said. "I've been waiting for you to get home." He offered them to Merlin. "I've been drinking," he said. "Come open them before the suspense finally kills me. I need to know where you're going to be in September." (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

Merlin looked at Draco for a moment, then laughed and walked over to him. He felt a little nervous about what the letter may say. What if he didn't get accepted to any school?

He chewed at his bottom lip, then sat down beside Draco and kissed him softly. "No matter what, these letters are just uni options. I can go somewhere else." He looked at them, then ripped the first one open, grinning. "I got accepted to Cambridge."

Cambridge? Draco really hoped Merlin also got accepted into University College London, but he was happy for him. He could be happy for Merlin and want him to say no at the same time. "That's amazing," he said, leaning in and kissing Merlin deeply.

"Open the next one. The envelopes are the same size. It's probably an acceptance too," he said, looking down at it and smiling. "If you got into both schools you'll have gotten in everywhere."

	Merlin knew that Draco wanted him to stay in London to go to school, that way neither of them would have to worry about spending time apart. It was a better school, but his father had gone to Cambridge. He chewed his bottom lip, then took a deep breath and ripped it open. He pulled out the letter and read it, smiling. 	Draco relaxed, pouring Merlin a drink and topping his own off. "Then we should celebrate," he said firmly. "You're brilliant just like I always thought you were. You're going to have your choice of top-tier law schools." He ran his hand through his hair, grinning at the other boy. "I am so excited for you, Merlin. You're brilliant." 	Merlin smiled at Draco and pressed close to him, pulling him into his lap. He took a sip of his drink, then put it on the table. Draco was happy for him. "We're going to have a very happy life." 	Draco laughed when he was pulled into Merlin's lap, kissing him again and brushing his fingers through Merlin's hair. "We should go out for dinner or something," he said. "To celebrate. 	Draco got home from school to the smell of dinner, which was a relief. He'd had a busy day and the thought of cooking on top of everything made him want to scream. "You made -- There's a cat on our counter." Draco blinked at the kitten for a moment, then set his bag down on one of the kitchen chairs cautiously. "Who does the cat belong to?" 	Merlin let out a soft laugh and nodded. "Indeed there is. There is a cat on the counter." He stood up and walked over to Draco, then picked up the tiny kitten who immediately started to purr and rub against his hand. "He's ours. He's our baby." 	Their baby. Well, the kitten seemed to like Merlin a lot so maybe Draco stood a chance. "Do people put collars on cats? I thought they just let them roam around the house." He reached out tentative, trying to stroke the kitten's head. "I don't know. What's a good name for a cat? Like... Snowy or something? I haven't really had a pet before. Animals don't like me." 	"I don't know. I got this one from that one boy. The Walden one." Merlin admitted as he looked at Draco, then put the kitten on Draco's shoulder. He laughed as it nuzzled at Draco's ear, then curled up into a ball to sleep. "Walden suggested naming it after something you really like or something he reminds you of." 	Draco was far too pleased about Charlie remembering his favourite chocolates. Maybe it was a good thing he was going to Romania. "Can we be friends now?" he asked. "Just friends?" 	Oh right, Pansy. Draco glanced at her, then looked back at Charlie, smiling. "Yeah, I'd love that," he agreed. "It sounds like the next best thing to being there in person."
