Hijinks Ensue
Giovanna Bennet had just dropped up a delivery at the courier service not far from the building in which she, Andrew, and Angelo lived. She sighed as she headed back into the New York cold, heading back there.

In most states, what the Punisher is doing could be called stalking.

It wasn't that he was curious about "Gio" from their previous meeting, but he had to make sure she hadn't turned him in to the police. All right, maybe he was a little curious. It had taken the better part of a week, casing the area on foot to get another glimpse of her, but eventually he had. Twice, during his surveillance, she'd nearly caught him, but he'd managed to get out of sight at the last minute. He'd followed her all the way back home, noting the building she was staying in.

It took another day or so to go back and give it a better look. One day, he caught a cleaning lady coming out of the place and approached her, asking a few innocent questions about a girl matching Gio's description.

Bonita Botrell, the housekeeper, was quite informative.

"Oh, that's Miss Giovanna. She's stays up on the twelfth floor with a young boy, her brother, and another guy named...Alvin, I think. Now, they seem like a happy little family, but...well, some odd stuff goes on up there sometimes." Bonita says, looking around on the street to make sure no one is watching them.

"Can you tell me what you mean by odd?" Donovan asks, the former Marshal in him going to work.

"Well, Miss Giovanna is a sweet girl, very nice...but she's really, how do I say...tough. She doesn't take crap from anybody...except Alvin. One night a few months ago, I went up to the room to see if they needed anything and Alvin's....bodyguard, I guess, big muscle-bound guy, comes to the door and says they need a doctor. I tell him I know one on the first floor, but I ask why, since he doesn't look hurt at all.

He didn't wanna elaborate, and so I tried to look around him to see what was goin' on...and I saw Miss Giovanna layin' on the floor all beat up. She was bleeding and moaning. He said they'd been attacked, but he didn't look like /he'd/ been attacked." Bonita says.

"Is that so? Where was Gio's brother when this happened?" Burke asks.

"Oh, he wasn't there yet. He only moved in a few months ago. Alvin's bodyguard comes and goes. Alvin wasn't around, either." she says.

"Do you recall any other time you've seen this happen? Anyone who can verify what you're telling me?" he asks.

"Look, sir, I'm tellin' you too much as it is. Some powerful and important people in this town meet with Alvin and I could lose my job if they find out. I seen the two of them on the news in the company of that guy who runs that mutant show on TV. I think it's called the X-People or something. I don't like the look of /that/ guy, either.

But I ain't one to gossip, you didn't hear that from me." Bonita says.

"No, I sure didn't. Thank you, Bonita." he says, passing her a hundred-dollar bill. "Happy Holidays."

"Thank you...I'm sorry, I missed your name." she says.

"John. John Public." he says.

Fast-forward to now.

He's seen Giovanna go into the building and presumably make her way upstairs. He saw Bonita again last week, and she said that the couple looked very tense as if they'd just had a fight of some kind. She hadn't heard anything from their apartment, but that didn't mean it was fine. Some people suffered in silence, she said.

Burke couldn't reconcile the woman who'd jumped armed humans with a woman who'd let herself get beat on by her boyfriend's bodyguard. He had yet to see anyone matching the bodyguard's description, though he /had/ seen Alvin at least once. He didn't look like much, but he couldn't get why he'd let his bodyguard punch out his girlfriend...unless he didn't know.

Something about this smells wrong to the Punisher, but he's got to make sure he knows what's going on before he kicks this asshole's face in. He'd seen the bruises on Alfredo and heard Cesar's tone when talking to him. That was reason enough to act.

He headed into the building, went up to the twelfth floor and knocked on Giovanna's door.

	Gio opens the door and immediately frowns and curses quietly in French. "What are you doing here?" She hisses. "If someone's in trouble I can help, but I'd rather not drag my brother and my boyfriend into it." (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

"Well, I'd rather not drag them into it, either. Why don't grab your brother and Alvin, and all three of you go stay somewhere else for tonight?" Punisher says.

"I'm going to have a little talk with Alvin's bodyguard and explain that hitting you isn't going to be part of his job anymore. I'm also going to explain to Alvin that /letting/ his bodyguard hit you is a no-no." Burke says.

Giovanna blinked. And blinked. And blinked

"His name is Andrew. And if you want to talk to Andrew's bodyguard..." She steps into the hallway and closes the door, and hopes Angelo and Andrew haven't noticed from the other rooms. "You already are. Andrew doesn't have a regular security detail. I take care of him. And since I don't hit myself, I don't know what you can be talking abou..." A sudden realization, and she winced. "Oh, I tried to tell Andrew not to call the doctor," she mutters.

	Donovan's eyes narrow. "So, /you're/ Alvin's...I mean, Andrew's bodyguard?" Donovan says, glad that he didn't just kick the door in and start shooting. Otherwise, it could have gone badly. "Okay, who are you and what the hell is going on here?" he asks. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

"I am Giovanna Bennet." She pronounces it with full Italian accent this time. "I am serving my country and taking care of Andrew and my little brother. The cur that attacked me this spring didn't survive the week, and I'd say the same would happen to anyone else who ever did that to me, but I won't hurt Andrew's feelings like that again, so next time I won't kill, just beat them within an inch of their lives."

"Look, I don't know where you're from or why you're protecting this guy, but if they've got you doing it, you must be good at it. I...just don't like hearing about people getting taken advantage of. "The cur helped kill two schoolchildren and put two more in comas. He was a threat to Andrew, and what he did to me was...an outrage. The world is a cleaner place without him in it. I know Andrew can't understand that, but I would figure you would."

"...Thank you. And I ...appreciate your concern," Especially coming from a human, but that would be rude to say aloud. " But it isn't necessary here. And for the record....we're Genoshan. So by most people's standards, including a lot of Andrew's family, the 'damned' part is already nicely taken care of."

"Well, it's a good thing he's dead then, or I'd ask where he is so I could make him that way. But you're a good person, Giovanna. I understand why you did it, but I also understand why Andrew would have an issue with it. A lot of people start down that road and then they can't come back from it." he says.

He chuckles a little when Giovanna mentions where they're from.

"Genoshans. The stuff the government says about you guys is right up there with what they must have said during the Salem Witch Trials about anyone they accused." Donovan says.

"One of these days, people are going to figure out that mutants aren't much different from humans, no matter how they look or what they can do. We all bleed and die exactly the same." he says.

"Yeah, and that he's beating you semi-regularly. That didn't track with me, but then I don't know you well. I know the basics of what you can do and your real name now, but...I've known women in that situation and how bad it can get." Donovan says.

"If you come across someone that you think needs to be dealt with...provide me the information. If I agree, I'll make it happen and keep it discreet." he says.

Something was out of place.

Giovanna had come home, where he had spinach and cheese crepes just ready, then almost immediately exited again to answer a knock at the door. Disposing of his apron and drawing himself up, Angelo strode over to the door and opened it abruptly, surveying the scene before him.

Well... that was a very large... person, with his sister.

He looks at Giovanna for any sort of signal, although the fact that the hallway isn't strewn with bits of combatant and the walls seem intact is a good initial one.

"Gio? Is everything alright? Lunch is ready."

	She's smiling when Angelo comes out. "No threat," she says quickly in Italian, recognizing the look in his eyes and eager to avoid some ridiculous misunderstanding. Again. "I'll be right in, Angelo. Just explaining a few things to this gentleman." (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

	"Happy Holidays," Burke says to Angelo in perfect Italian, then looks to Giovanna. "Didn't know you spoke it. You're full of surprises." he says. "But I've taken up enough of your time.
