Hammering Out The Details (Before Red Wedding)
Chris stepped off the train onto the platform at Grand Central, heading up the ramp into the main concourse. Time for Date Number 3 with Pauline. It had been a slightly awkward conversation after she'd realized what she'd said, but she'd gotten them tickets to an art-house double feature of both Disney Fantasia movies. The unofficial word was also that the original cut's "Sunflower" sequences of Pastoral Symphony would be shown during the intermission.

She headed for the clock and information booth in the center of the concourse, an eye out for her date.

Chris scurries over to her and greets her with a more than friendly kiss. "Hey you." She grins when the need for air makes its demands known.

"I don't know any other kind of alligator/hippo action." Chris grins, heading them both over to the subway.

A young woman with black pigtails and a spiked collar asks for Pauline's autograph on the subway. It is happily given.

Chris smiles, slipping an arm around Pauline's waist as they squeeze into a subway car. "My own celebrity escort while I'm in the city. Sweet deal."

This is a good moment right here. Chris is going to live in this moment.

Pauline smiles back. "Happy to help." And she nestles in beside Chris, in thought for a while.

Then, suddenly. "Ponchielli really is underrated, you know."

Chris smiles at that tightening and gives her a kiss on the cheek, smirking and rolling her eyes as an elderly man clears his throat and gives them a not-friendly glance.

"So, after the double, dinner's on me, but you have to pick. Also, I've got something I wanted to talk to you about. Most people might wait until the end of the date, but I tend to deal with awkwardness better than suspense."

Chris nods, and keeps her voice politely low. "Fair enough.

I like you, Pauline. I would definitely like to date you some more. I just wanted to know if you lean towards exclusive or otherwise. I've kept my behavior exclusive, for the record, but if you haven't, that's fine.

I'm fine with either flavor of relationship, I just like to know which one it is."

She gives her a smile. "And did I mention that I like you?"

Pauline giggles. "Standard casting for Daisy and Violet would apply. But their freak show friends, and Jake, could do with an ...update of sorts. So could their vaudeville performances, for their matter, not that I'd necessarily be unleashing Deej on the score. But mainly, race relations issues are a lot different nowadays, and I think if Jake were green or something, we could make that point.

"Having two parents on the Avengers and growing up with mutants has taught me that people still totally care about skin color, as long as you were born that way. If you got it in any kind of accident, you're set." She shakes her head.

"Sounds like a really cool idea. The cynic in me is saying off-Broadway at best, but sometimes that's a good thing." She smiles. "Let me know if you need consults on any clothing out of the usual. I've helped a lot of.. uniquely shaped kids at school."

"Nothing to thank. I'm calling it like I hear it." Chris grins back, kissing her again.

This casual public displays of affection thing is habit-forming.

She tugs her girlfriend out of her seat as the train pulls into the appropriate station. "Come on, hippos and one racially insensitive centaur are waiting."

The art house is a casual affair, an array of non-matching couches, recliners, bean-bags, and other unreasonably comfortable seating instead of the typical rows of folding chairs. Chris was more than happy to cuddle up to her date on a leopard-print love-seat.

It's about as the music in Bald Mountain hits its peak that there's a cry from the lobby, followed by a slamming of the main entrance door and the lights are flipped on. A stone-skinned man and two apparent humans carrying a sack lock the door as they spread out.

"Alright! Everyone keep quiet and nobody gets hurt, unlike the moron out front." The stone man jerks his head at the door.

"This... is not good." Chris says calmly under her breath as she slowly sits upright. No need for any sudden movements to make things worse, even though there's no sign of guns yet.

The Mussorgsky had been so unsettling in itself that Pauline hadn't picked up on the malevolence and distress in the lobby.

But what she starts to do, quietly, is sing. Schubert's Ave Maria, in fact, since she was waiting for that one. A sense of calm trance will start to go over the room, but she's working in a particular direction.

"Awright then..." The lead thug seems pleased to have everyone's attention. He thumps a fist against the door. "Nobody's gettin' out with their pockets full. No worries about credit cards and custom jewelry, simps. Cash and manufactured only."

The beta thugs fan out, holding open sacks. The lead thug seems to examine his fist however, a spot seeming to have been stripped bare by the impact. He hurriedly reaches into a pocket and downs a tablet. There's a quiet grating sound as a new layer seems to coat his stone skin, stretching hsi clothes.

Chris looks at Pauline, speaking quietly as she pretends to have trouble getting her watch off. "What are you doing? I'm just waiting for an opening.."

Pauline shrugs slightly to Chris, but doesn't stop singing to talk. She's focusing weary, starry-eyed serenity on the muggers. It gets stronger, and stronger.

The beta thugs start wobbling, one of them staggering into the person nearest them with cash, before tripping over a recliner.

"What's wrong with you idiots? Get the hell back... back up..." The stone man's words start to waver.

Chris just starts to smirk, nodding to Pauline.

Chris just puts her hands behind her head and sits back, watching with delight as the stone man finally topples to the floor. Only it's not quite the floor. He hits the end of a couch, flipping it and tossing a movie-viewer across the room. A bean-bag meets a tragic fate, but no apparent injuries.

His peons amble towards him and try dragging him off, but the other attendants grab them.

Chris smirks at Pauline. "..you're kind of awesome, you know that?"
