"Yes, Ma'am, Ms. Torres. I will put her on the phone as soon as she finishes eating. Pain perdu, Ma'am. Cage-free eggs, real butter, and with a touch of cinnamon. Did you two go see the cliffs? Awesome tides, right? Okay, yes, Ma'am, here she is." GK handed her Zoe the phone as he served his own plate.

"No Mom, he's not doing /all/ the cooking. I got us takeout Chinese last night." Zoe rolled her eyes and began cleaning up as she talked. She didn't mind doing the dishes when GK cooked. It seemed like fair trade.

"Yeah, I'm studying. Are you having a good time? Good." She turned to lean against the counter and make faces at GK while he ate. "Just so you know, he went through our closets and decided what wasn't right for our coloring. I'm not sure what happened the clothes. It was more my stuff than yours, Mom." Pause. "It's okay, Mom. We're staying out of trouble. Love you too. I will. Bye."

She hung up the phone with a sigh. "I didn't think I'd ever say this, but whatever Jed's doing to distract her is working. She only called once yesterday and once today."

"You mean not like she did the first day at every stop on the flights to Maine and then twice that night?" Four days and all Zoe managed to do on the mystery of the creepy old guy sniper was rant about it and find no hint in the rumors through the Triangle. GK listened to her and thinned her closet of anything remotely off her color palate.

"That's what's left," she groused. "Tonight. Sometime."
