She's Like The Wind
Jai West is four minutes early, but doesn't know if Traya will consider that late. He's inherited his father's and great uncle's ability to be late, even though he's The Fastest Boy Alive.

His face is healed from the attack he suffered from an alien gorilla earlier this week. The rest of the team is okay, although it was strange to be kidnapped as part of a plot to bring Henry and Katima together (don't even get him started on that). He hopes that Henry and Katima have something real, but he's sure that's not going to tie itself up nice and pretty for everyone involved.

He's wearing some of the new clothes that Iris helped him pick out: black shirt, blue jeans and black boots as he waits for her to arrive at the mall. Jai's even decided to come to Traya's town to keep nosy little sisters (re: Iris) from tagging along for updates.

He takes a deep breath and resists the urge to run home and change for the third time.

She'd been lucky. All she'd gotten from the kidnapping was a headache and a few missing hours. She couldn't believe she hadn't even been able to put up a fight. But that was in the past. Now? she had a date!

Traya had spent a considerable amount of time consulting with her girlfriends (well, mostly Iris and Petra), over what to wear. She'd finally settled on something she was comfortable with. Not too flashy, not too trashy, but not too modest either.

She was almost late. She'd had to spend way too much time convincing her dad that this would be perfectly fine, that Jai was a perfect gentleman, and that even if he wasn't, she was eighteen and capable of making her own decisions.

She smiled when she saw him. "Jai!" she called out as she hurried up to him.

Jai didn't know it was possible for the grin on his face to get any bigger, but it did when he saw her. And she looks great. Jai doesn't know who he made happy to get this date, but he'll gladly do their bidding if it leads to a second date.

"Hey!" he says, heading over to her. "You look great, as always."

"So, I was thinking we'd get lunch, and then see a movie. You have any ideas on movies?" he asks.

"Hey don't feel bad. You weren't the only one." he says, trying not to remember how much getting thrown through a wall hurt like hell.

"That entire thing was crazy. And, it was all connected to the Lanterns. You'd think those rings came with a 'no drama' setting at some point." Jai said, chuckling a little.

"Really, though, Henry bailed us out on that one, along with Katima." he says, trying to think of something else to talk about.

"Chicken teriyaki is amazing. Do you like egg rolls?"

"Oh, I'm good. Eric healed us up pretty well, which is why I get to enjoy your company today." he says with a smile.

"You can throw a rock and hit a Lantern these days." he says.

"Egg rolls are great. Irey and I can eat them by the ton, which means Mom usually has to buy them by the truckload. Living with two other speedsters makes for increased food buying." he says.

"And I thought my Mom was going to follow me out on this date today with all the questions she was asking and all the fussing she did." he laughs.

"Your dad and my mom could be lurking around here somewhere, watching us?" he says, mock-seriously. "I'll have to be careful not to stare at you the whole day. It'll at least keep me from running into a wall and making a fool of myself, right?" he asks.

They made it to the Chinese food place and Jai got them an open table.

"Oh, the Math Team at my school is going to the state competition this week. If we win, then we get to go to Regionals in Fawcett City. Fawcett City High School has the best math team in the Midwest.

I'm excited about it. The caliber of problems they want us to work out is insane." he says, ordering a raspberry iced tea.

"Really? I would love the help! The team can only study in the morning before school and for about an hour after. We try to set stuff up at someone's house, but it's hard because a few of the guys play sports." he says.

"But yes, if you want to study together, that would great. It also gives me more reasons to see you. Not that just seeing you in itself isn't a reason, but talking math with someone who loves it as much as I do is a great way to spend time." he says.

"How are the end-of-school preparations going?" he asks.

Traya beamed. "Never had that problem. I was never good enough to be on any sports teams and didn't have half the coordination I needed to be a cheerleader. I'm, ah, actually kinda clumsy sometimes."

"Probably better if you come see me for that," she added. "I mean, I can fly pretty fast, but I don't do cross-country real well. I kinda... get lost."

"Those're going good," she said. "Mom's already planning my graduation party, I think. Pretty much settled on Metropolis U for college, and the only class I'm worried about is my English one."

Jai blinked. "I can't see you as clumsy at all."

"Sure, I can come see you. I'm pretty good with the roadways around the country, so coming to you isn't a problem. Irey and I...kind of race each other all over the world any chance we get. Or we go to lunch in Mexico or China during school." he says.

"Metropolis U is awesome. I hear they've got a great journalism school, and they turn out lots of people who get hired at papers around the country.

Hey, how about I help you with your English if you help me with Math?" he asks.

"If you've got time next week, I can stop by and we can work on some stuff." he says. The waitress comes back with their drinks, and he orders egg rolls, fried rice and orange chicken. "No way. That's awesome! My mom loves the movie, but she says my Dad always falls asleep on it. Maybe our parents aren't really spying on us; they're just using it as an excuse to see the updated version." Jai jokes.

He makes a face after takes a bit of the chicken.

"Oh, look. You kind of got something on your lip. Right there." he says, a slight gesture at her lower lip.
