She doesn't mean to mock with the strange tone she says that in, they sure seem simultaneously crazy about each other and desperate to keep up the formality. Blame her youth for finding something odd about it.

She folded her hands, then unfolded them.

"He does not know. I've considered that perhaps I should simply find him a new and serviceable geisha to handle his affairs lest things become compromised...it is so unseemly for a geisha to be so enamored...but I can't stand the idea. Perhaps you modern creatures have worn off on me."
