"It's both Columbus day and the Dia de la Raza. So, you know, we can celebrate a genocidal jerk's being really bad at geography, or we can celebrate people who are way to into Hispanic ethnic parity. Either way, it's related to the Western Hemisphere, and, if one thinks about it, pretty ethically ambiguous, and thus should be celebrated somewhere that people don't have to think too much. So.... Sylvia Alejandra McCoy, stop that train of thought right now. It's no good to pine. Enjoy what you've got.

She didn't know how the old crush kept flaring up again lately. It was in the face of all logic. The harem were like sisters, and Misha was the ultimate big brother. When it came to girls, as far as she could tell, he went for worldly women -- and not the 'well-travelled and educated' kind of worldly. More the kind that was the opposite of her. The kind of people who made good cocktail waitresses, whose independence mindset was because of casual habits, not a set goal offsetting the inability to get through the house alone if someone moved the furniture.

So Sylvie smiled and waited for her ride to Harry's and tried to stop being so uncharacteristically broody.
