"Okay, seriously?" Dinah asked. "We've been teammates for how long now, and this is the first time?"

She set the board in-between the two of them, laying out pieces.

"Why the sudden urge to play chess? And why me? I always thought me and Ri kinda bugged ya."

Cait shrugged. "I dunno. I haven't played in ages and thought it would be nice. I can't win against Ty, ever, and you'll be a good challenge." Cait gave her a small smile. "Besides, I don't think any of the others play. Maybe Max does, but I don't think he likes me much."

Cait looked over at her. "Riley's okay in small doses. He's just...not what I'm used to dealing with. I don't have any problems with you except that where you are Riley usually is."

"A... while back, actually. Late... 2010?" Dinah said. "Probably not too long after I got the Scarab. I was kind of a wreck after Jaime died... and well, one thing ended up leading to another... and... well."

"And then we realized what we'd done and put it off for a little while, so when we were ready to do it again, we were doing it for the right reasons. Turned out that wasn't too long."
