The Healing Process
With all that had been happening Cait had very little time to go see and play with Hope and her pod. As soon as she could move reasonably well and wasn't in too much pain, Cait made her way down to the water. It was a cool day in San Francisco, too cold to go swimming, but Cait wasn't human and the temperature didn't bother her as it did humans. Not to mention the easiest way for her to stay hydrated was to go swimming in the ocean.

Cait dived into the water and called out to Hope and her pod.

Within a short time they came into the bay and Cait greeted them with a big smile. A few of them were happy enough to see her again that they started jumping out of the water and doing tricks.

Cait gave Hope a hug and watched the others play.

"SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

Deep breath.

"EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!

"You have DOLPHINS! And that one is PINK!"

Pippi is out in the water, actually swimming rather well. Even better now that she has some cause to head out towards Cait.

Cait winced at the squeeing. It was only a decibel or two below deafening and Cait had Atlantean hearing on top of it. It was painful to say the least.

"Hi, Pippi," Cait said with a smile. It was hard to not like Pippi even when her gem wasn't making people like her. She was like a puppy. Cute, adorable, happy and you felt really bad when you kicked it.

"They're not mine per se, but they do like to come into the bay to talk and play with me. This one is Hope," Cait said as she ran hand lightly over Hope's nose.

Pippi swims up to the dolphins. The gems enhance the raiderettes' athletic ability, which apparently includes mildly superhuman swimming ability. Nowhere close to a match for Cait, but she's having no problems getting around or staying afloat.

Pippi extends a hand, and a dolphin swims right to her. As usual, while she can't properly 'talk' to them like Cait, the animals have taken a quick liking to her.

"They're very pretty. I haven't ever swam with dolphins before. I see why you come out here so much."

Cait smiled.

Hope this is Pippi. She's a friend.

Hope nudged Pippi and chittered a bit.

"I come out here because I have to. I can't allow myself to become dehydraded."

Pippi nods seriously, petting Hope as she chats with Cait.

"I've heard that's a serious concern. I didn't know you drank."

Cait blinked a few times. What was...nevermind. It would hurt her brain too much to figure out the connection. "Um, I'm an Atlantean. It's best for us to always be near water," Cait explained.

"Hope and her pod like to come into the bay frequently. They like to talk to me and they like the attention the people on the shore give them."

Pippi nods sagaciously. The drinking age must be pretty low in Atlantis. She'll try and keep this in mind and not make too much loud noise around Cait in the mornings, just in case.

"I'll have to come out and visit them sometimes then. So, you can speak Dolphin? That's neat."

"They would like that," Cait said. "I don't really speak dolphin, but I can communicate telepathically with them." Cait paused. "I can speak to them using my mind." She was talking to Pippi after all.

"Would you like to go for a swim with them?"

"Oh." she replies, peering closely at Cait's firehead as if there might be some sort of hidden messages there. Then she catches the second part, and grins wide. "Yes! That would be fun."

Cait called two of the adults over. Hope was still too young to have one of them holding on.

"Hold on like this," Cait said as she put both hands on the dorsal fin of one of them. "Then just hold on."

Pippi picks up on that part pretty quickly. "Whee! This is fun! They seem to like it too."

"They like to play," Cait said as the dolphins pulled them through the water.

"So, if you can talk to dolphins with your head, is there anything else you can talk to, or is it just a dolphin thing?"

"I can talk to all sea creatures," Cait said. "Fish, sharks, whales, rays, dolphins and even some sea birds," Cait answered.

"On, that's a neat power! So, like cats and condors and cow..." she blinks, noting the other examples. There's a few moments of trying to put 1 and 1 together and not coming up with the third letter in the alphabet before a light turns on.
"So, have you ever seen a dogfish?"

"No, by sea creatures I mean creatures who live in the sea. Like whales, sharks, dolphins and fish."

Sometimes talking to Pippi was an exercise in patience.

"Yes. They're a type of shark actually."

Pippi nods. "Yeah, I figured it out. I was going to have you talk to King Triton and find out if he wants different food. He'd probably like more fish in his diet though. So... uhm, why are they called dogfish, anyway?"

"I'm sure King Triton would like more fish anyway," Cait said. "I honestly don't know. Humans have some weird names for things."

"Almost. Seals are mammals, penguins are birds."

Keeping digging Cait.
