Codemakers
He'd gotten as far as he could in reasonable confidence. Logic trees, operating parameters, and all the other basic formulas had been set. Vincent knew it was time to call in someone more proficient than he for the rest of the programming. Kristoff had already been lending him aid on the assembly of the prototype swarm, but the Refreshers needed their marching orders, so to speak.

He called Anya Stark.

"Stark. Talk to me," she answered the phone.

"Miss Stark, this is Vincent, of the Fantastic Four. I was wondering if I could meet with you to discuss collaboration on a nanotech project I'm currently engaged in. Your proficiency in code comes highly recommended."

He gets right to the point, not really knowing her well enough to have any idea where to go with small-talk.

"That would be fine." Vincent takes down the address from her. "Shall I pick you up at six thirty?"

"No problem." Vincent nods to himself. "I'll see you then." After making sure there's nothing else to know, he excuses himself and hangs up.

Vincent arrives at the firehouse, his Fantasticar module parked overheard, and knocks at the front door. He has a few display units and data drives with him, as well as some old-fashioned blueprints. His satchel bulges slightly, carrying an oversized model of one of the nanites.

Anya had gotten a selection of food from the Indian place across from the TBolts HQ. She got enough for the team as well. The TBolts lived on takeout seeing how the team was a little short on cooking skills.

She greeted Vincent at the door.

"Hello, Vincent," she said with a smile.

He smiles in return, adjusting his shoulder-strap before extending a hand. "A pleasure to meet you, Anya Stark. At least for the first time without explosions going on."

He looks at the doorway, already catching a whiff of the food further inside. "May I come in?"

"Charming." Vincent smiles as he enters the firehouse. "I suppose the citizens of Cambridge have an easy answer about who they're going to call," a beat "in case of trouble." He cracks a grin at the joke.

"So do you have a place for us to sit and eat first, or do you allow food in your lab?"

Anya chuckled. "Something like that. We have a kitchen and dining area, but we can eat in the lab. If food wasn't allowed in there, I'd starve to death."

Anya led him through the building and to the elevator that would take them down to the lab.

Vincent looks around actively as they proceed, taking in the more technical details of the place's renovations. It's well-appointed, even if it's not the Baxter Building.

"So, do you have much experience with coding for nanotech?"

"I thought you said someone recommended me to you. I would assume they wouldn't have recommended you to someone who didn't have the required experience."

The elevator ride was only one floor and the doors opened not long after the doors shut.

She put her hand to the scanner and mentally entered her code. The door opened with a swoosh.

A few days later

Vincent woke up with a start, tangled in his sheets as he blurts out, "Ant-hill!" He blinked, then fumbled for the notepad on his nightstand, before reaching for the phone, calling Anya.

He was all but ready to run triumphant through the building calling out 'Eureka!'

"I've solved the cost-efficiency problem, for the structural reinforcement methodology. Well... not solved yet, but it should absolutely work. Do you have any titanium laying around? It doesn't matter what shape it's in."

He sets his phone to speaker as he starts getting himself dressed. He needs to get to his work space and start working on what he'll bring with him.

"Alchemy." Vincent pulled on his work robe and headed down the hall, bringing the phone with him.

"Liquefication of hard metals without all the fuss of extreme temperatures, or contraction and expansion to worry about when solidifying. It's like taking a cast of an ant-hill. Use the nanites to drill out the reinforcement routes, then just use any high pressure pump to flood them with the raw liquid metal before turning it back into a solid."

He enters his work room and clears off a table, getting a burner going and getting out a crucible, transferring the call to the room's comm system. He takes a piece of plating from a scrapped project to start experimenting on.

"I should have a base test done in a few hours. Should I set up a travel kit to bring with me, or would you prefer to come here? There might be a slight brimstone smell to your lab afterward. Never comes out of the walls, really."

Blink. Alchemy? Was he for real?

"Just how do you expect to turn metals like titanium to liquid and back if you're not using conventional methods?"

Vincent paused. "Magic. I thought that was obvious.

If you're talking about for implementation once and if the technology gets distributed, I'd obviously have to control the supply of the catalyst elixer. A few drops should be enough for each matter state change once I've got the formula down though."

He gets some steel ball bearings for practice and puts them aside, checking some of his books for the formulas he's looking for. He's seen various supplies change their state before turning into something else, so this should be fairly simple. He hopes.

"How's the coding going for the route-mapping program going by the way?

"Vincent, have you talked to Kristoff about this?" Anya asked. "What you're proposing is just...impractical. Magic is something that won't be commercially accepted. Not to mention it would almost be impossible to market something based on magic. People won't take something at face value and accept it. They will want to see the science behind it. Not to mention trying to get a patent for it would be near impossible."
