Night Driving- Thomas
Chasing down a lead on a drug ring had brought Sam to Gotham where he had run into Thomas again. After busting up the ring there the ringleader had already left and was headed Hub City. At least that's what they guy thy had scared into telling him had said. So they headed out to try and catch him.

Sam let Thomas do the driving since he still hadn't learned to drive himself. After several hours of late night driving they were both starting to feel pretty tired.

"Street fighting has its uses, we mix it with the martial arts because let's be honest, thugs don't fight fair." And martial arts, as Dad would stress, was about control. Had to be in control of yourself. Which didn't leave much room for anger.

"Nothing bad I hope," he says while doing a turn that clearly wasn't meant to usually be done at the speeds they were going.

"Well at that point I was just starting to learn martial arts so I just used what I was most comfortable with in those fights," Sam says. Sam's martial arts training had more to do with acceptance than control and some zen stuff he still didn't fully get.

"Nothing worse than anyone else in the neighbor I was from," he says with a shrug as he tried not to let the fast turn move him too much.

Thomas nods understandingly. It made sense.

"When did you start under GA?" Conversation was keeping him more awake and besides, it was good to know the person you were working with.

"That kind of hard to say," Sam says. There was exactly one moment where Connor had just decided to start training if in this stuff.

"I guess about 14 when I really started," He says, "Though he showed me a few tricks before that. When did you start learning all of this."

Thomas chuckled at the question. "Real early. At 14 I was already doing solo patrols." Another tire squealing turn later and still no police. "So how is it working with him?" He's guessing now that the second GA had adopted him. Perhaps Batman had a file on this guy somewhere, he should check one day.

"How early is real early," Sam asked curiously, "Are we talking like Elementary school or since you could walk?" The police had to be getting up for donuts soon but it was definitely nice not to have to deal with the, yet.

"It's pretty nice working with him," He says, "He really care about the people he's helping out. Hell he probably care more about that than stopping the bad guys." Legal guardian probably would have been the more correct term for what Connor was for him.

"I dunno, most people would say both those scenarios are real early," he chuckles but doesn't answer the question. Secret id considerations and all.

"Yes, it's always more about protecting the innocent than stopping bad guys," he agrees. In his opinion that's what they did in Gotham although it seemed most people didn't seem to understand that.

"Yeah they are both really early," Sam says noting that he didn't answer the question.

"Yeah that true," Sam says, "But what I met was he likes to make sure they are OK afterwards and taken care of."

"Must be a lot of work. It's hard to keep track of too many of them." They tended to only si it for those seriously injured, in bad situations, or were a danger for falling into the wrong side of the law. Of course that was seperate from all the kids and informants. Still, what they did cover was work. The Buddhist Green Arrow must do even more of it he thought.

"It's more the poorer people than the richer ones," Sam says, "But like I said saint." Connor really did put a lot of work into that sort of thing whenever he had the time. Probably part of the reason he though Connor took an interest in him.

Sam shrugged. "I just do the best that I can," he says, "Beside it's not like I'm trying to be Superman."

"Superman isn't anywhere near as perfect as he's made out to be." Dick may have always been a bit of a fanboy but Thomas had never had that in-awe respect for Supes that most seemed to have. Respect, yes, but not the ridiculously high opinion of the man.

"No he's not but it works well for an expression," Sam says with a smirk. Supes was never really a hero for him either.

Thomas raises an eyebrow at Sam and smirks. "Most people have a ridiculously high opinion of him. It's rare I find someone who thinks otherwise." Maybe this arrow guy wasn't too bad. Better than most. Who knew a bat and arrow would agree on stuff?

"What he's never helped me," Sam says, "Besides it does seem like he hates leave shiny Metropolis." It was always fun to find someone who did not put Superman up on a pedestal like him.

"My problem is that he can be very...naive." And to a jaded vigilante, he also came across as self righteous. Of course people didn't like you saying that out loud.

Then he shoots a, for once friendly, conspiratory smile at Sam. "...And he fights like an 8 year old with super powers." Well it was true! He didn't see any technique there, just wham bam and go in swinging.

"Yeah he does seem like is more than a little naive," Sam says in agreement. Sam would totally have agreed on the self-righteous thing.

Sam shots him a smile right back. "Well he doesn't exactly need all to much technique to win a fight," Sam says, "I mean just one punch and he can make almost anyone go down if he really wanted."

"Yeah but against someone else with superstrength? Knowing a bit more than what any elementary kid knows would be pretty helpful. At least those fights wouldn't last so long and level neighbourhoods," Thomas points out. "And seriously, if someone hits him with some gold kryptonite he's in trouble. Only got bulk going for him. Either of us could take him real easily if he got stuck without powers for a time." Which had happened before, Thomas really thought Supes should be more prepared for scenarios where he'd lose his powers for whatever reason.

Always be prepared.

"Very true," Sam says, "But that's why we have Wonder Woman. She's practical as strong as him and man can she kick some ass." Supes not preparing for that kind of thing was kind of silly.

He personally thought Wonder Woman was preachy but then again he didn't view most of the senior crimefighters with awe. "I always wondered how that lassitude of truth worked. Does it not only compel you to tell the truth, but also compel you to talk? Because if not and you just shut up it's kind of useless." Although some people were just really chatty. He should look into the lasso thing, Batman would have notes somewhere.

Yeah Wonder Woman was a little preachy but then again he did live with monks so it didn't bother him to much as long as she didn't try to force her beliefs on him. "I would get compel to talk but have never had the pleasure of her tying me up to find out," Sam says jokingly. But most crooks he knew would not likely snitch on there own like that unless really scared but then why would you need the lasso.

Wonderful thing about masks with lenses was that your eyes could glaze over during the preaching without her noticing. "It can be arranged," he laughs, taking the opportunity to poke fun at the other half of the Brave and the Bold teamup. Although he agreed on the really scared criminals turning snitches. Which was pretty obvious from the methods they used in Gotham.

"Ah, but how do we determine who wins?" Thomas liked it when people bantered back. At least when there wasn't serious work to do.
