This is something that bothers me so I decided I'd rant about it here.
I have family on my mother's side that I can trace back to the second landing at Jamestown. My father's side doesn't go back quite that far, but they do go back to the pre-Revolution. I have family on both sides such that I have relatives that fought in every major American conflict, including both sides of the Civil War. My nearest migrated relatives are seven generations back on both sides. I even have a marginal amount (like 1/152) of native blood in me. So, pray tell, does that not make me a 'native' American?

Okay, everyone remember that ASME SPDC stuff that's been eating my time as of late?
Well the competition was yesterday and my team won. That's right. Won, first place and everything.
What does winning mean? We get cash moneys to go to internationals in Vancover, BC, Canada. Or as they put it officially here.
And we got a plaque. Yeah, those plaques they hang up in the undergraduate office to show how awesome the school and department is? I just won one of those.
Either way....
YA-HA! WE KICKED ASS!

Okay I have a few head's ups for those who are concerned:
1) Tomorrow, March 29th, school starts up again. I've had an academic complication that has made my university pay a little extra attention to me. So I'll be trying to bust my ass better this next term. I do, on the other hand, only have one afternoon class and Fridays off.
2) I'm officially on a competition team for the Student Design Challenge being held at the ASME (American Society for Mechanical Engineers) SPDC (Student Professional Development Conference .... I think). It's being held on April 9th and 10th. I will not be around those two days I'd wager. Do expect to see interesting updates as to whether or not I win anything in the end.
3) If I am 'away' on IM. I really do mean I'm not at my computer. Or it could mean I'm at my computer and doing something that requires all of my concentration. You are welcome to ding me and leave a message. My e-mail works, but do keep in mind I will be busier than usual this school term.

To all who own Wiis,
If you want to import awesome games from afar, you don't have to import a Wii from that region anymore. I know of a way to get your American Wii to play internationally. It is legal, but it does void your Wii warranty if you get caught having it. Also, these changes to your Wii are NOT permanent. You can remove them without traces and I can show you how to do that as well.
Dunno if you care about it or not, but IM me if you want to learn how.

I read a lot of manga. In fact I consider myself somewhat of an expert on them. Not that I'm the best or most knowledgeable out there, but I can say a lot about several series. I'm not an official critic, but I will try to stay true to myself. If you want to request something, I'll have a look. There are some things I can't make myself read to save my life, so forgive me if I tell you I won't do it. Do recall I have time constraints too. School is important to me.
For a start I'm going to go over the manga series for the characters I play in the Traverse_Town RP of Scribbld.net:
Eyeshield 21- This is a sports manga about American Football. The story follows a boy by the name of Kobayakawa Sena. He has 'golden legs' which allow him to run a 40 yrd dash in 4.2 seconds (this is NFL speeds). Unfortunately Sena is a timid child who just kind of lets himself get pushed around by the flow of life to avoid pain. Due to some interesting circumstances with bullies, Sena finds himself in the football club's clubhouse and meeting Kurita Ryokan. Kurita is sweet-loving, giant teddy bear of a guy that is also a lineman. Sena decided to join the team intially as a secretary, but later becomes a team player as a runningback. Sena meets several interesting people, Hiruma Youichi (the devil incarnate, comander from hell) the quarterback that chooses to defy the fact he wasn't physically built for football, Monta the wide reciever who was abandoned by baseball but never gave up on the path of catching, and several others. Sena's team grows, loses, ties, wins, and each character matures in a realistic fasion, despite the batshit insane humor that's going on.
The characters in Eyesheild 21 are what really make it different than other sports animes. Not all of the characters are good players and some of them have really crappy reasons to be doing what they are doing. In the end several lessons are learned and everyone experiences their limits. But at the same time, they are all drawn in to their love of the sport and respect of each other as teammates. Also despite having a massive cast, Eyeshield has a good balance with the characters. Romance is kind of on the side and unspoken, not to mention they make Americans out to be overly powerful, arrogant assholes, but I see that as a satire. The US is often seen like that by outside countries. They stay very true to the football rules. The artwork is remarkably pretty and varried.
Bartender- This is a slice-of-life manga about the healing power of a bartending. Sasakura Ryuu is a world-class bartender, he's not the best in story, but he's one of the best. He makes drinks that fit the drinker like a glove, from ingridents to the drink's history itself, Sasakura matches every aspect with care. He sees detials about his costumers that others do not expect. In the manga, there is an ongoing push from Miwa and her grandfather to get Sasakura hired as the bartender for the hotel they are seeking to open up.
Sasakura is a character. He's a nice guy that can't help but to help others. He's very true to his job and very down to earth. The stories of how he helps people are heart-warming and sweet. Everyone walks out of his care with a smile. This series is only available online, and I hope that it will someday be released officially in the US. It doesn't have a lot of action or romance, but it is as humorous as it is tender and serious.
Legend of Zelda- These follow the plot of the games for the most part. They are like summaries of the games with little side stories and alterting of the plot to make it flow. The only advantage of reading these over the games is that you get to see Link's personality first hand. Link has a similiar personality across all of the stories. The artwork of these is based off of the offical game artwork. They are aimed at kids, so some of the games seriousness has been edited down. If you play the games you'd probably enjoy these because they cover some things that weren't covered in the games.
Chibi Vampire- Chibi Vampire is also called 'Karin' after the main character. Maaka Karin is the middle child of a vampire family. She's odd in the sense she can still walk about in sunlight, that she can't use any vampire magic, that she doesn't have nightvision, and she gives blood to her victims! Karin is easily embarrassed and she tries hard to make those around her happy. Karin does, like other vampires, have a blood preference and that is 'unhappiness'. So she gets desires to bite unhappy people and her blood increases faster if she is around unhappy people. By biting someone, they become unburdened and happy. Karin is well loved by her family and they try their best to take care of her, despite her living in the world of the sun when they live in the world of darkness.
Chibi Vampire is a very cute series. It has a good deal of romance, sillyness, and blood. Karin is a sweet girl and her boyfriend is an equally sweet boy (even if he is the victim of circumstance). The artwork is very typical for Shoujo, but as I said before, there is blood and there is action. This is not at all like Twilight where the vampires are sparkly and two-dimensional. All of the characters in Karin are three dimensional for the most part and there isn't a massive amount of angsting in the series.
Asklepios- This is a very short series about medicine and doctors. It follows Buzz Medil, the head of the Medil family and heir to the title 'Asklepios'. He is being hunted as heretic since he cuts people open to operate on them and cure them of diseases. Buzz has to overcome people's ignorance about their illnesses, the church that's always trying to kill him, and his own fear of dying and failure. Buzz is a nervous nelly, but he's excellent at what he does. Aided by the extremely strong Rosary, Buzz journies across the land to save as many people as he can.
The artwork of the surgeries is very realistic, so if you're squimish about human inards, don't read this series. One of the issues with Asklepios was that it is very short and was written with the design of being longer. There are a lot of unsolved things that were brought up in the story and the conclusion is fitting, but not a satisfying as you would hope it to be. The characters are loveable and their problems are realistic for the time frame.
That's it for now. See you next week, Bar-Ohki

Today I turned in the last of the required feats for my attempt at an internship. It's through this program called Entry Point, which allows me to simultaneously apply to internships at the following places: IBM, NASA, Merck, Google, Lockheed Martin, CVS, NAVAIR, Pfizer, Infosys, Shell, and Procter & Gamble.
And when I went in for my interview, the lady doing it told me that I had an excellent package and presented perfectly. She sincerely wished that she could guarantee me one on the spot right there, but she promised she'd do everything in her power to get me one.
Wow.
Maybe, maybe I'll get to go to NASA. I want to pretty bad. I love space. ><
I'll know if I get one later, so stay tuned.

Finally, the last of it is done.
I now present to you my complete computer set-up, with me using it. And yes, I am doing IM on one screen and manga on the other. I'm awesome that way. Things of note are the trash can you can't see on the floor (yes, it is important to have one of those by my desk for me), my laptop and it's dock, my monitor, my scanner, it's table, and the printer on the bottom. Plus I have a Devil Bat Plushie. I am thrilled, more so than I probably look in this picture, bu thrilled all the same.
( Cut the photo for the sake of preserving space )

I'm only spoiling part of the first 5 minutes of gameplay here. So no worries.
I want to kick someone's ass! No seriously, Link had this epic steam punk engineer's outfit and you lose it not even 5 minutes into the game! That's just unfair! I was really looking forward to seeing Link in something other than green but no-! You can't even keep him in the engineering outfit as long as he stayed in his normal clothes in Wind Waker! Gah! It's no fair! No fair at all!
I mean look at this! Why can't I have enjoyed that in my gameplay?! Grrr!

| Christmas Quiz!? |
| Public |
|
Okay, I went to a Christmas party where one of the hosts (happened to have been born on Dec 25th, 1949) was turning 60. So we put out a quiz and the person with the highest score (me) won the door prize!
Which was Hans and Fans. And the people that made these Zombie Target Posters as the same people that make the targets used to train the FBI agents. They are win, very win. Everyone at the party was jealous.
Anyways, here's the quiz. It's true or false with true being the invention of that thing occurred after 1949.
1- Credit Cards 2- Aerosol Spray Cans 3- Mc Donalds 4- Color TV 5- Mr. Potato Head 6- Hoola Hoops 7- LSD 8- Velcro 9- Integrated Circuits 10- Bar Codes 11- Microwave Ovens 12- Cake Mix
(ans: True: 1, 3, 5, 6, 9, 10 / False: 2, 4, 7, 8, 11 / Invented in 1949: 12)
I scored 8/12, did you beat me? :3

| Birthday Present? |
| Public |
|
Okay, I don't have an actual recording of this, but this morning, at midnight, I was working on my ME 382 major project with my group. When midnight came around one of my teammates (I'll call him J) turns on his computer to some really heavy bass rap song and started to break dance on the table.
As a birthday present.
Then everyone in the room tried (and failed) to run our machines. It was actually really funny. I think the best part was when I offered to go get some drinks and another teammate (I'll call him A) was all like 'Hey, get me a beer'. And I was all like 'A, you have to wait until tomorrow'.
In the end I went to Mac Minnimin's and got him a pint. And got carded for the first time. XD

Well my second day at Kumori Con was full of Girl Genius stuff and shopping. I scored a Master Sword (real metal), some tee-shirts as gifts, and all the Eysheild manga I was missing. Yay!
I also drew some really awesome pictures of Emiko and Hiruma. I'll scan 'em in later.
And, for the first time in several years, I spoke face to face with Sasha, an ex-friend of mine that backstabbed me pretty damn good. We were civil and fine, but it reminded me of what kind of abuse she had done to be before we stopped being friends. I still hurt from that and it sucks sometimes.
I discovered that Songs for Daddy did not win in the fic contest, that didn't disappoint me. But it did drive me nuts because trying to learn that took an extra two hours that I really didn't want to be spending loitering at the hotel. Now that that's over, I drove home.
And driving on the interstate with autism? That's really nerve-wracking and hard on my mind (because its extremely easy to get distracted which is REALLY bad). And I had over stimulated myself everday I was at the con so I came home an almost broken down wreck.
Then I found out I had to go and pay my rent and run errands. Nearly wreacked my mom's nice car.
Yay. /scarcaism
Now that I've slept and rested I feel better. I did enjoy the con a lot, so I'm glad I went.
Here's a link to some of the pics I took.

| Kumori Con |
|
I'm way to lazy and busy to upload pictures at this time, but I can tell you a bit about what I've done so far.
First off, before this con started I entered Songs for Daddy, an Eyeshield 21 fanfic into Kumori Con's fanfiction contest for the 'Best Novel' category. I had to change chapter 24: Because of You, slightly. Well by slightly I had to remove the dream and replace it with this symbolic drabbly thing so the entire rating of the story could go down.
Anyways, then I went on my first day as a spark from Girl Genius. It's extremely steam punk with +10 sexy!red velevet and +5 kickass!corset. I got lots of complements for both my costume and (from the people at the Creation Station that also run the fanfiction contest) for my fic. That was happy making.
As for Con loot, so far I have indulged in a Master Sword (Legend of Zelda reference there) and Girl Genius Vol. 8, signed by the author and the artist.
Well I was also at the Girl Genius booth, I got a 'Gaslamp Fantasy Costume Appreciation Award' since I was a kick ass spark. And when I was also down in the vendors I managed to happen upon the only Eyeshield 21 cosplayers at the con! So I took a picture with them (them being Musashi and a cheerleader, I think Mamori maybe? I dunno.).
After that I met up with my friend David and gave him a room key so he could shamelessly crash on the floor of my room during the con. But we had to get him a key asap, so I didn't get a full run in vendors.
I spent the rest of the day paneling my ass off and getting pictures taken and the like. I'll post and update later with some of the more memerable pics I've taken.
