Fluff meme: Cooking is a science!
Cooking she could do, other people putting in all that effort and cooking for her? She couldn't do. Which was exactly why when Aleks proposed this dinner thing she'd already planned on coming early to help the moment she agreed.

Well, okay, she'd avoid having to cut any onions but she was still handy in the kitchen. Besides, regardless of what people said, cooking was a science. And she was a scientist.

"Hi. Now I know the fact I brought wine may be odd, considering I don't drink it, but I do own some. Fine, I use it only for cooking, but still. Classic guest-gift and it works with the whole cooking dinner thing you've got going," she rambles once he opens the door. Lena would admit to some slight nervousness. Not willingly, but still it had to count for something.

"I'll do my best. But... yeah. Lot of things, really. I may be all good with cheap food, but I admit to being a snob about my beer and coffee. When it comes to mixed, though... technically I'll drink about whatever, I just usually don't. When alcohol doesn't do anything, most hard liquor loses at least part of its point."

"As much as I'm a coffee snob, I'll get desperate enough to drink the foulest of it too. Caffeine Addicts Anonymous, it could have a whole chapter in each SHIELD base. And knowing how your metabolism works, that makes sense. At least between the two of us there's always some special we can take advantage of. Though I still vastly prefer my caffeine."

"Hmm, I've still got a few questions left of my twenty so, now this is important, what's the best coffee you've ever had? And worst?"

"With my metabolism, I don't really need caffeine. Two or three hours of sleep, and I'm wide awake. I just drink it because I like it. I think my current favorite is probably the Jamaican Blue Mountain Roast. Worst... the stuff in the SHIELD cafeteria."

She had to tease. "Does this mean your caffeine is free to take? Careful who you tell that to."

"I'm jealous of your sleep schedule and have always been. I operate on less than 'normal' amounts but I still wish I could work consistently with only 2 every day. My god, the cafeteria stuff I swear is there for the sole purpose of half-heartedly trying to kick every agent's addiction to the stuff."

He can't help but grin just a little, waggling his brow playfully. "Any time you're still here in the morning, I'll be happy to make you all the coffee you want." he partially agrees.

"Yeah, were it not for that sleep schedule, no way I'd be able to handle the SHIELD work and my studies. Definitely a benefit."

She smirks right back. "Careful, your poor coffee supply will weep."

"I can't wait till the pharm department gets in gear on something that'll get me through on minimal sleep." She was half-joking. Only because she knew all the known biological requirements for sleep, it had been a keen side interest of hers over the years.

"I might consider that a small price to pay." he replies, between bites.

"Yeah, never know. After all, they're certainly working on it, at least for short term ops."

"And then one morning you hit the bottom of the coffee supply," she chuckles.

"They've made decent improvements in their work on the short term version. I'm still holding out for the longer term one. After testing of course."

"Might still be worth it. As for the lack of sleep pharmaceuticals though... yeah, longer term might take a while. Short of cosmic rays or gamma irradiation, they're a ways off there."

"Never said it wouldn't be. Though on the sleep front I'm okay with working off about five and less. Mostly because it's just a matter of there are things to do, many of which are far more interesting. The paperwork aspect can go bother someone else."

"Or just gullible enough to put stock in Bond films. Less hot women on the beach and more paperwork in reality."

"Yeah but they're in the field and not lounging suggestively on the beach," she chuckles. "Though I wish I could find the statistic for how far the bond wannabes make it. I'd be surprised if they passed basic training."

"My wild guess is that they last exactly long enough to draw the attention of anyone named Fury, then they get the boot. Halfway through basic sounds about right."

She refrained from any mention of Sammy's powers. It wasn't hers to say despite any knowledge she had. "Never a dull day at work it seems."
