	ia with that. at the same time though, the writer was choosing to tackle a sensitive topic in a way that ended up being offensive. they should be prepared for backlash ic and people being offended ooc if they choose to insult and generalize. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

	oh i completely agree that there was some horrific mudslinging in here, i just also feel that if you aren't prepared for people's reactions to your character's handling of sensitive material then you should stick to safer topics. (Reply to this)(Parent)

	i disagree about being prepared for ooc backlash, that's line crossing. also, the way people called the writer names and insinuated things about their personal life was beyond offensive. i feel so awful for them. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

	if someone ooc were to say in here that ooc they felt uncomfortable about the post, but refrained from having their char comment - which is what many people said - how does that count as line crossing? i've been upset ooc at posts that triggered me before but didn't comment ic to say that i was triggered. 	because the opinion being expressed in the post isn't real. i think it's fair to say that most of us don't agree with racism, a lot of us wouldn't agree with making light of racism, but expressing offense over a fictional opinion is just bizarre to me. how do you read any old literature or watch films rated above like...PG? i define line crossing in this case as having your character who wouldn't share that view comment to say how you feel, or having your character refuse to interact with the other one anymore if they have no reason to be offended. i think it should be okay to say that something makes us uncomfortable or that a certain character's opinion or brand of humor makes us uncomfortable.

	this exactly. it's one thing to disagree with the content of the post ic and/or ooc, but calling the writer ignorant and a bad writer because you disagree is going too far. that's far more ignorant than writing a pretend post where you're racially insensitive because that's real life and her post wasn't.
