can we stop bashing actor/musicians in here? all it ever does is make me want to drop my character.

actor/musicians in general, on the last page.

i wasn't the one on the last page and for the record, i don't have a problem with any of the ones in the comm right now. but i do think that's getting saturated. like how about some actors who can't carry a tune and some musicians who wouldn't know what to do with a script?

i'd like to at least see some of them get side-eyed for trying to cross over, like taylor momsen being ridiculed for the pretty reckless or mariah carey sucking in glitter.

anon, i'm not bashing them and i bet your character is great, but a disproportionate amount of actors here also have indie music credits.

that's not anyone's fault though and talking about it in here doesn't do anything except make people feel bad about their characters.

i think the actor/musician frustration is really a very common issue in faux celeb though

i was the one who said it and i didn't mean anyone already in game. it's just kind of obnoxious that so many people coming in are balancing two careers. there aren't that many celebs irl that are able to be successful in both.

yup, and if they are successful in both it's a moderate success at best. i think jackson rathbone has it about as good as it gets when it comes to crossing over your careers: a fairly small music project and supporting film roles. there are exceptions, like disney girls are a different story because they're worked to the bone in order to be singing/dancing/acting triple threats. but in general, yeah ia with you.

ita! most people don't know that jackson has a band so even though he is a musician/actor, most people would just think of him as an actor. and i think disney girls are the exception but mostly because disney likes to get triple threats so they can make $.

i mean the credits where they have iconic music credits and acting ones. think of mandy moore, she does music but she's probably more known for her movies. or beyonce who has also done film but is more known as a musician.

yes! and with the mandy moore example, she spaces her projects out so that she has time for everything. she didn't do any movies between 2007 and 2010 so she could make the time to release amanda leigh in 2009. there's only so much time in a person's schedule.

plus as much as i love mandy (and i do, i'm a huge fan) her records don't tend to do very well. i mean some people don't even know she still makes music. now if she had britney or christina's careers she would have had less time to make movies.

exactly. yeah. i wouldn't mind seeing an actor/musician though who had the musical credits of like...a really awful band that gets no radio play and has never really toured...but...idk who that would be off the top of my head. just something like the keanu reeves route where you always hear about their band/music career but then you look up the band and you're like ..........oic

yes! people who are critically acclaimed in music are rarely acclaimed in acting and vice versa.

they're called dogstar and they are pretty lulzy. like the kind of band someone who karaokes to staind and nickelback puts together.

my girl acted in one tv show but hasn't acted since it ended and doesn't plan on acting again because she's more focused on the musical aspect of her career. that and she didn't think she was that great of an actress to begin with.

just kinda going off what you are saying, but i think it's possible to be successful as an actor and a musician, but it's rarely simultaneous (and by that, i mean i honestly can't think of anyone). jt is obviously a very talented musician and i've heard some good things about his acting career, but he's not juggling both. getting recognized for your talent in any field and getting a large following is very difficult, but to excel in two or more is very impressive and not a lot of people manage to do it.
