Their relationship actually works really well, probably because they are opposites. He doesn't mind staying in nights for her and she makes an effort to at least go out for him if he wants to (she went to a honky tonk for him and Emily is frightened of cowboys). She is very comfortable around him and he is one of the few people that gets to see the goofy side of her, so she isn't as prim and proper with him as she is with everyone else. He is also isn't as much of a crazy party boy/manwhore as he likes to make himself seem (shush that is a secret), at least around her. They sort of even each other out too where he makes her more outgoing and she makes him more calm. Plus she is smitten and would do anything to make him happy. I hope this all made sense and gives you the explanation you wanted!
