"You're such a fucking idiot."

Zacharias sat hunched over, shaking his head at his bed ridden cousin. He'd known she was stupid, she had been for most of her life, but this had really taken the cake. "Was this to impress Finnegan? Because he's an even bigger idiot than you, so I don't know what---"

"Oy, shut up," Lavender moaned, moving to push herself into a sitting position. Zacharias let out a hiss and jumped out of his seat to help her, avoiding the scars on her neck and face. He had no idea if Lavender would have those forever, but he really hoped not, for her sake and--his. He'd never be able to forgive himself for leaving her behind.

"Do you feel like a hero, then?" he asked, keeping a hand on her back. "Is that was what it was about?"

"You know what!" Lavender snapped, reaching over and smacking his arm, "I do! I do feel like a bloody hero because I didn't get up and run the other way!"

"You know I had Isabella---"

"Uh huh, Zac! She was on line ready to floo out, come on!"

Lavender stared hard at her cousin, and Zacharias' jaw set harshly in place, face going red. Lavender's eyebrows rose and he looked away, ashamed.

"I'm not a bloody Gryffindor."

"Plenty of Hufflepuffs stayed."

"Fine, so---I'm not a good person," Zacharias shot at her, still unable to look Lavender in the eye. She let out a breath, and reached over to his hand.

"You're not a bad person, Zac."

"That's what everyone thinks."

Lavender pressed her lips together and shook her head, "You're not! Some people just can't handle war and battles. I'm sure you could write a hell of an article about it at the Prophet, though...you did get that internship, yeah?"

Zacharias smirked and nodding, finally looking up at her. Merlin, she looked a terrible mess, but she still managed to have that perky attitude. How was he related to this girl?

"Yeah...I guess you have to promise to be my first interview. You were there."

"I'll make it juicier than it really was."
