Leo, Hiro

When Leo had gotten home that night, he'd stared at the phone number on his hand for a long time. The man who'd written it there had been incredibly attractive, but so much so that it made Leo suspicious. People weren't that alluring without some sort of nefarious purpose, or at least they weren't in his world. Eventually though, Leo had scratched down the phone number onto a slip of paper and tucked it under the phonebook before he went to go wash up for bed.

A couple of weeks later, it wasn't that Leo had forgotten about the encounter, but he was surprised to see the number flutter out onto the floor when he picked up the phonebook to order pizza. Glancing down at it, he rolled his bottom lip in between his teeth thoughtfully. After a good five minutes of staring, he reached down to pick it up and grabbed the phone in one bold move. He told himself it was because Hiro was suspicious and he was intent on finding out more about him. Really, it was because Leo just wanted to see him again. Dialing the number, he listened to the phone ring.

Quirking a brow, Leo laughed. "Did you think I was calling you one of the bad guys? Maybe being a bad guy is in your nature and that's why you stay up so late?"

He shook his head, holding up his hand, not requiring an answer to that question. He was just joking anyway. As much as he wanted to pin something terrible on Hiro, just to avoid being attracted to him, Leo couldn't manage to find anything but mild infatuation for him. "So how does one get into art?"

Leo's comment got a mild laugh out of Hiro and he simply shook his head some as he let his shoulders droop in a completely relaxed state.

"I didn't, no," he answered, the smile on his face a little warmer than most of his smiles were. "I think one is just born into art. How does one get into detective work? I think that is a much better question."

Leo gave Hiro a look as if to say: Seriously? "Born into art? Way to try and change the focus back to me. But no one is born into anything. Everyone chooses what it is they really want to do, parents are just a convenient excuse." Leo held onto the belief that whether people were miserable or happy, it was their choice to be so.

He was keen to find out more about Hiro and he wasn't about to get sidetracked by talking about himself, even if it was tempting to tell the guy his life story.

A warm laugh slipped past Hiro's lips, and he simply shook his head as he let one of his hands move to rest ontop of the table, next to his cup. He could feel the warmth from the coffee radiating against his skin, and he liked the way it felt.

"I just meant that... a person is usually born with a love of art or a talent for it," he explained, "That's all." And he'd been born with both, but since he'd been embraced it was a lot more difficult to create art so he had the tendency to just appreciate it instead.

Such was Leo's next question. "A love and a talent. Do you create art too, or just collect it?"

The food was disappearing bite by bite, and eventually, the waitress came to take the plates away. Being left with just his coffee, Leo looked down into it and curled his hands around it. The cafe wasn't crowded, but it was alive with sound. Regardless, Leo was unable to be distracted, focus entirely on Hiro.

"I use to create it," Hiro replied honestly, seeing no reason why he should try to lie about it. "I guess I lost my creative drive, though. Sometimes spurts will come, still. And I'll paint something, but those moments are growing further and far between."

It bothered him, and it was actually a little obvious as he drummed his fingertips against the tabletop with a soft sigh.

"Appreciating is sometimes hard. Wishing you'd been able to make something so beautiful, but knowing you didn't."
