Had he taken a different approach, he likely could have won. In this case, he was willing to lose, but set up a vast differential... and manages to hang on for the stalemate despite his divided focus, once she only has a few pieces to think about, and uses them expertly, no matter how he tries to distract her.

"So, do we call off bets, or do we both lose?" he asks after the stalemate is official.
