1) Dinadans father and Michaels uncle were good friends as well as coworkers. Michael and Din? Not so much. Dins reserved nature and Michaels blunt nature rarely had them interact for most of their early careers.
2) What brought the two together was the attempted bombing of Willis Tower by Kobra. Dins knowledge of the chemicals used combined with Michaels knowledge of architecture and engineering allowed them to find the location of the bomb and defuse it before any damage was done.
3)After the Willis Tower incident, the two began to work together professionally, with Michael taking time out of his architecture firm to help manufacture some of the materials Din needed.
4) Michael was the first name chosen to be drawn as a person on duty for Dins wedding.
There was indeed an attack, but with Michaels stubborn efforts (and more than a little help from Dex), Dins wedding went off without a hitch. They even got a little snow.

5) The act that cemented Din and Michaels friendship came when someone tried to draw the elemental out of the Matrix and destabilized it. Din was able to enter into the Matrix and repair it from within, with the two members of Firestorm assisting.
