[Two hands - both gloved - come out and snatch the fake-self by the collar at the very same moment that all of Allen's balance ~~(what little there is left of it)~~ is drastically shifted and suddenly the floor is coming up really fast.

Naturally, the thing to do is twist so that the fake-self is the one to land first. Fake-selves get the privilege of breaking falls, don't you know.]
