Downtime
Jenny left the train station with one idea in her head - go to her flat and shower off the visit with her mother. Fielding questions about her future and her non-existent love life was a tedious way to spend a weekend. Thank God Kelsey lived a safe distance outside of London and rarely ventured into the city.

Thank God Jenny had a flat to herself so she wouldn't have to socialize with a roommate. She hardly socialized at all since she'd taken up the Lionheart identity. The government kept her busy.

It was great being back in a sane world where things made sense and there were no demons or vampires. Quinn was quite happy to have things normal again. Normal meant beer and he was heading to a pub. He needed beer.

Jenny wasn't watching where she was going and bumped into a guy trying to get by her on the street. "Sorry," she muttered.

Quinn was thinking of beer and of course watching the girls when they ran into each other.

When he saw who bumped into him, he smiled. "No worries, luv. I wasn't watching where I was going."

She gave him a brief, tired smile and moved to brush past him. Another pedestrian passing too close made her step back into the guy. "And they say the tube is crowded."

Quinn felt the small twinges of magic when he bumped into her. Strange. His interest was piqued. He smiled and caught her. "The Tube is crowded, the streets are just cozy."

"Cozy until somebody loses an eye." She bowed to the inevitable and held out a hand. "Thanks for the spotting on that difficult maneuver, but I think I have it now."

"You're welcome, luv. Quinn Braddock. Always a pleasure to help a damsel in a little distress."

"Jenny Leigh. Braddock? Do I know that name?"

"As in Braddock of Captain Britain. Son of actually. Leigh? Any chance related to Kelsey?" It was just too much of a coincidence that a Braddock and a Leigh would run into each other.

"I didn't realize Captain Britain had a son." Jenny shook herself slightly. "Daughter of, actually. Are you taking over the Captain Britain identity?" she asked bluntly.

"He doesn't," Quinn started. "At least in this reality. I am the son of A Captain Britain." He nodded. "Yeah since this reality needs one."

"Lionheart's been doing a credible job for picking up where Captain Britain left off."

To her ears, admittedly on the defensive side in the face of an unknown, that sounded just a bit condescending. "It's not as if there was a choice."

She glanced around to realize they were still on the street and having this conversation where anyone could listen. She motioned toward the nearby pub. "Talking out in the open isn't a brilliant idea."

"Talking over a pint is bloody brilliant," Quinn said with a large grin. He opened the door and held it for her.

Jenny stepped inside and looked around for an empty table. One wasn't quite in the corner but it was close enough for the purpose. She selected a seat and sat down.

Quinn grabbed two pints from the bar and brought them over. He placed them on the table and sat down. "Cheers, luv." He held up his pint.

She lifted hers as well. It would have been impolite not to, and even her grumpiness had to admit he seemed okay.

The headache explaining to her handler that a Captain Britain just wandered in to fight crime was still to come. Might as well medicate early.

"Cheers."

Quinn took a nice long drink from his pint. He gave her a big smile when done. "Now, where were we?"
