I find that I don't want to post about Prague

We had a wonderful time there but typing it all in feels like homework! So I'll just tell you a tiny bit about it and leave the rest to the imagination. We went there by night train, as it's quick and fairly comfortable.
We didn't have beds, so we didn't sleep too well, but it was still sleeping of some kind (luckily we did bring inflatable neck pillows, as they make all the difference!).

In the morning we arrived in Dresden, where we changed trains and had an hour to spend, which was lovely because we got ourselves some tea and coffee and really good bread, which made a nice breakfast. Arriving in Prague by train is wonderful because you get to see a nice stretch of scenery.
As soon as we arrived we bought three-day tickets for all kinds of public transport within the city. Highly recommended. Public transport is all over the place and it's clean and efficient.

We went to the 'other' side of the river, and found the student flats that also serve as hostels much as I remembered them. So we simply took a (very cheap) room there. No need to shop around if you're happy with what you've got. It's a bit outside of the center, but very easily reached by public transport, there's a small supermarket and it's nicely situated on Petrin hill which overlooks the city.
The next few days were mainly spent strolling though the center. Here's a short list of things we went to see:
  • Wenceslas square
  • the Old Town Square with the astrological clock
  • Charles' Bridge
  • the museum for applied crafts
  • a museum with mainly modern art but also a lot about architecture
  • the Jewish quarter with the old cemetary
  • Mala Strana at the other side of the river, in the evening, very pretty
  • a market full of Vietnamese people selling fake brand clothing
  • Oh, and we released 25 books.

We also used the trams to see quite a bit of the city outside of the center. We took tram 22 to the very end, bought bread and pickled herring salad there and picknicked, then got back on the tram and rode it again to the end of the line. And then we did a similar thing with tram 10.
We did a lot of shopping, without actually buying much; but we did find lots of Little Mole stuff. I resisted most of it, but did get a yellow cardboard Little Mole suitcase, a keyring and a set of fridge magnets. We bought souvenirs for some friends, as well.
Finding some nice places to eat wasn't hard, and good food can still be cheap in Prague if you take the time to walk around the corner from the posh areas. Many restaurants are in the basements of the buildings, so you can't look inside; but often, the surprise will be a pleasant one.

All in all we had a lovely time, and we were really lucky with regards to the weather; [info]stoneshop got himself a pair of sunglasses at the market (we haggled, but of course found out later that we still paid too much; oh well...) because he really needed them, and we walked around in our T-shirts most of the time.
