'Beertje' is my motorized tricycle. It's quite old: from 1956. I bought it back in 1990 when I was starting up my business and didn't have a driver's licence; it provided me with a practical and stylish way to get to my customers and bring all my equipment.
Plus, Beertje always attracted lots of attention, which is good if you're running a business.


Ever since I've got a driver's licence and, eventually, a car (the infamous Paint Can), Beertje hasn't gotten out much; what's worse, when I lived in Nijmegen I used it as an outdoor attention getter, and some kids set it on fire.
The damage was not nearly what it could have been, but still a sad sight and since the electrical wires and some other vital stuff had molten, Beertje wouldn't run anymore.
I stored it away safely for the day when I'd get around to fixing it. It has been stored like that for the past three years. It's safe and dry.

But then I got a phone call from someone who is working on a movie. She'd found a pic of Beertje online somewhere, tried the phone number painted on the front but it belongs to someone else now, then Googled my business' name and found me. She was very happy to hear I stil have Beertje. They wanted something that looked plausible for a butcher to use in the 1950s, and Beertje is 'just so', and rare enough for them to be unable to find another like it.

Long story short: they're going to rent Beertje for a couple of weeks, fix it up so it will run again, shoot a film and then return it to me all fixed. And I'll get paid for the privilege.
How's that for a lucky break?
