Character Name: Derek Carson

Age and physical description: 20 (birthday: June 11, 1990), average height, fit. Blue eyes, dark blonde hair, clean-shaven.

Personality: Derek's the guy that will back his friends up, no matter what. Loyalty is more than just a word for him.

He's pretty adaptable, due to his childhood, and manages to fit in well wherever he goes. While he's rarely the ringleader, Derek can be counted on to have a good time in most any situation.

He feels passionately about serving his country and would like have already been enslisted in the Navy except that he made a deal with his parents to go to college first before joining up.

History: Derek's childhood was spent traveling, since his father was (still is) in the Navy. He was born in Florida, and lived there just long enough to go to Disney World as a toddler. After that was a succession of different bases, King's Bay, Annapolis, Sigonella, Rota, Pearl Harbor, Corpus Christi, and Norfolk. He grew to enjoy traveling and is used to not having any real roots. That and the idea that he'd one day join the Navy just became a foregone conclusion for him. His dad's Navy, his grandfather was, and his great grandfather. It's sort of a family tradition.

However, when Derek started talking about enlisting directly upon graduating high school and turning eighteen, his parents managed to talk him out of that idea. Instead, they made a deal that he'd go to college, first, and they'd pay for whatever tuition and expenses he had that scholarships wouldn't pay for. He ended up getting accepted to George Washington University and is now finishing up his sophomore year there, majoring in Computer Engineering. He's also, of course, in GWU's Navy ROTC program.

Something he doesn't talk about but is often on his mind is that his mother is currently undergoing treatment for cancer.

He also has a younger sister who's in her senior year of high school.

He's never had a long term girlfriend but he dates often enough.

Strengths: Adaptable, friendly, intelligent, and fiercely loyal. He can also converse reasonably well in both Italian and Spanish.

Weaknesses: Can be pretty mulish in an argument, once he's decided on something, no amount of argument will ever change his mind, even if he's not being sensible. He is a smoker, so that smell clings to his clothes. Plus, he gets irritable if he goes too long without a cigarette.
