you know there are also degrees of severity with any mental illness or disorder, right?

yes, and obviously "sits on the internet and is mildly socially awkward" qualifies as a subset of asperger's, just because this person and millions of other internet denizens want it to be!

how do you know that is this persons case? just because they're here doesn't mean they're constantly on the internet.

they're in nonny and that automatically makes them an ignorant attention whore go figure

yeah, i think that might be the other persons case.

it's the op's case for sure

definitely not, it's obviously the person that judged them.

what i'm trying to figure out is - are you psychic? this anon hasn't outlined their symptoms or made any other statement other than "i think i might have aspergers". do you know everything about them? do you know who they are or their habits/behavior? no? then sit down.

no, but i know that many, many people who self-diagnose are like that - mildly socially awkward and fancy themselves geniuses. i've known some in real life. if this person genuinely suffers from asperger syndrome, then i encourage them to seek help, but in my experience that's probably not what's going on here.

if you encourage them to seek help maybe you should have said that instead of shooting them down immediately. as stated before, you have no clue about this persons family or personal life, so while they may just be saying it (which i highly doubt, in my opinion), they might not have anywhere else to talk about it. if they don't have it, then the person they seek for help will diagnose them and they don't have to worry. that is obviously not your place to tell them that.

i wonder if you actually realize how ridiculous you sound, or you're just saying this to get a rise.

i'm not saying it to get a rise, i'm being honest. if they sincerely believe they have it, they should go to a professional, but if they're just reading the wikipedia page and deciding they have it, then i call bs.

tbh it sounds to me like you could use some therapy to deal with your feelings about your uncle.

anyone would need therapy if they had been publicly embarrassed and had family gatherings ruined by a loved one who had asperger syndrome, the way my uncle has done.

oh, fuck off. i love my uncle, but there are times when yes, his asperger syndrome is embarrassing and upsetting not only for him, but for those around him. i know he can't help it, but that doesn't stop me and the rest of us from sometimes feeling frustrated and angry with the situation.

i have a family member with an autism spectrum disorder and ia with what you're saying. people think those with disabilities have to be treated like flawless angels and family members should have nothing but infinite joy and love, but in reality you DO get frustrated and you DO get angry when they disrupt situations.
