scotopia (skə-tō'pē-ə): n. The ability to see in darkness or dim light; dark-adapted vision.
Today is the darkest of times that anyone has ever attempted to live through. Lord Voldemort is in his prime and his reign of terror seems to have no end in sight. In an attempt to defend the wizarding world against his efforts, Aurors have been granted full power against the Dark Lord and his supporters, a decision which has resulted in significant criticism against the Ministry. The wizarding world is in disarray as Lord Voldemort's supporters, cleverly named Death Eaters, pit friend against friend. Riots occur almost on a weekly basis and it is a rare occurrence when a day passes without a death. Minister of Magic Millicent Bagnold has gone into hiding along with her family and her daily directions arrive by owl from her home.
Families are being advised to protect only their kin and not to risk their lives for strangers. Strangers are not to be trusted, for no one knows who may be a foe or a friend. Rumors fly about that Lord Voldemort has convinced the giants to join his side (aided by the colorful reportings of Rita Skeeter), thus introducing a far more heated prejudice against the giants than ever before.
Despite the Ministry's efforts at safety precautions, these are not enough.
Lodged within the hearts of a few individuals lies the courage to defend the world against the great evil of Lord Voldemort; these courageous people are members of a discreet organization known as the Order of the Phoenix which is headed by none other than Albus Dumbledore. This league of immensely talented individuals has made a promise to dedicate itself to bringing about the downfall of the darkest wizard of the age. |
