basics.
NAME: Julia Marion Dorny
NAME ETYMOLOGY:
Julia
Marion
Dorny
AGE: 17
DOB: 7 April, 1980.
HOUSE: Gryffindor
YEAR: 7th
FATHER: Callum Dorny
MOTHER: Sophia Dorny [née
SIBLINGS: none.
FROM: Paisley, Renfrewshire, Scotland
Blood Status: Halfblood. Both of her parents are magical, but her mum's muggleborn and her dad's a half-blood as well.
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual. But boys are nothing more to her than just another task.
Affiliation:Anti-Voldemort, Pro-Harry Potter. Harry's a house and yearmate of hers and what happened to Dumbledore was utter shite in her opinion. It's not like she has any plan on picking up arms anytime soon, but if she has to, she will.

NEWTs:
SPORT: Quidditch enthusiasts
SOCIETIES:

appearance.
Appearance: Tall, leggy, and blonde, and moving 1.8 billion kilometres an hour is Julia Dorny in one sentence. Athletic in build (she comes from a long line of hillwalkers, ruggers, footballers, and well, Quidditch players, though her mum always wanted to be a dancer), she's thin but it's not an 'oh my God, she doesn't eat' or 'oh my God, she can eat anything and get away with it' model sort of thinness, it's a 'that girl just moves and doesn't slow down long enough to keep any food in her system' musclar sort of thing. Her hair is long, straight and in a constant state of dishelved with it's not pulled up (she's got a habit of shoving errant quills or biros in her hair, just so that she knows where they are and her hair is out of her face). She's got bright blue eyes which she got from her mother and she really wishes that she was a brunnette like the majority of her family (she sincerely believes that she'd be prettier that way...and she very well might). Her features are soft, gentle though she does have a horribly noticeable smile, almost always kept in the laughing mode and from some angles she appears to be mostly nose, which when coupled with the fact that she's not particularly gifted in the area of the bustline, keeps her rather under the radar of most boys. Which is quite all right with her.

In uniform, she won't buy new robes every season with changing fashions because she just doesn't see the practicality in it, and she really enjoys wearing Muggle clothes (she spends pretty much all of her time in them at home, and those are pretty much jeans, skirts, tops and the like that have been bought at the Sales). Her robes are kept in good condition, for she figures that if you have to wear a uniform it might as well look good.

personality.

Personality: If one thing can be said that someone is going to 'get up all in [blank's] grill', it will probably be Julia Dorny. Sure she might do it out of concern for either that person or other's or well, herself (or maybe the general welfare of mankind), but that won't stop her from taking action. Even if that action might be a bit misguided. The sort of person who when she puts her mind to something she will stay up all night to finish it (and she will, oh yeah), when she goes, she really goes. If nothing else can be said about her, it's that she is passionate, that she puts her heart into everything, be the words she says, the ideas she focuses on, or the people she likes. Filled with energy and drive, she fully believes that the best way to get anything in life is by experiencing it, by just jumping in head first and if you drown you drown, but eh, at least you swam for a little bit. Not one to generally think in 'big pictures' and 'broad ideas', she is instead a self-declared 'details girl', who can at any moment list at least twenty obscure factoids about Muggle and Magical popculture (sport culture preferred). She loves to laugh, to wear the worst possible thing that someone can think of in the name 'rallying support' and if she believes in a cause, in a fighting game, in challenge, she will be up for it. If someone asks for her help (and that person is a) not a total arse and b) has something interesting), she'll go out and help them, usually putting in a bit than was needed.

In most situations, Julia is the sort of girl who goes in heart-first, ideals and irrationality and half-thinking blazing, the rest of her catching up as she moves. She moves fast, for she was born with the incredible inability to keep still, but once she goes into something, she's in it for the long haul. There's no backing up, backing down or giving up for her. She believes in the hard truths in life. Justice, Truth, Family. She believes that that these are the things that are worth going to the very end for, and heck, she'll do it, but she'll only do it if asked. She talks fast, will often say things worth wincing and the proverbial foot-in-mouth, but for all of her actions, she is not a firm believer in regrets. She's tempermental, she can blow hot and cold, and has the tendency to be very loud at times when she shouldn't and very honest about the way that she feels. She likes her friends (those who are close are few, but she'll befriend nearly anyone), and she adores her family. Art is her thing, but she believes that is her way of fighting back, it's her way of getting out her frustrations, of getting out her emotions without burdening them on her peers and a lot of the time, she honestly feels very much alone.

She's a strategist, she likes angles and putting things in pieces and motions, and that's part of what she loves about sport more than just the action (the action helps to satisfy the weird itch she has in her to just keep moving or at least witness it). She's got more pride than almost anyone, and she's pretty good at hiding it unless asked about it, then she won't deny it at all. She's got youngest child syndrome in a lot of aspects of her life, for she really truly enjoys being liked and looked and generally adored (not for cheap, rubbishy things, no, she'll leave those to her housemates, but for being something). She doesn't want power or fame or anything of that, she wants to be known for having documented and witnessed and shared what happened. Which she did. Another thing, is that while she's not naturally empathetic, she tries, which means a lot of questions, prodding, tactless, brute honesty, offering of tissue and hugs. She's getting better though, but she's by no means good.

On the surface, Julia can seem like a nice, fairly normal person who has nothing particularly off or odd or even that interesting about them. She doesn't care for sheep jokes and she has a mildly off-colour sense of humour from time to time, and seems to have endless stores of energy. She's the person who will cheer loudest at Quidditch matches whilest wearing full-on hairclashing face paint, who will make up studying chants, who goes a thousand extra yards. There are other factors though, like the fact that when she doesn't like someone or something she really won't like it, and it will take a bit more than hell and high water to change that opinion. She will make snap judgements about people if they say the wrong things, especially in terms of sport or politics or the ever present idea of her home country (she is fierce about her heritage, but it's mellowing, somewhat). She likes to run, to get things out through any means necessary, but when she's not careful, she can be a bit...destructive and vindictive. Meaning that if need be she'll do something low, dark, and dirty if she gets it into her head that someone deserves it. But we won't talk about that.

Three Things an Acquaintance Would Know About Your Character:
1: Her favourite Quidditch team is the Montrose Magpies. More importantly than that, during the season she can rather obnoxious about them.
2: Julia's all about the comforting. She may not be particularly good at it, but one thing's for certain: she's the random hug master of Gryffindor Tower.
3: No one else drinks more coffee and tea in a day than Julia does. No one. She's up to about six or seven cups before she loses track (of either the cup count or the actual cups).

Two Things Close Friends Would Know About Your Character:
1: Once upon a time, Julia had a massive definitely unrequited crush on Oliver Wood. She was young (really young), and he was the Quidditch God of Gryffindor (her words, definitely her words) and there was an awful lot of sighing involved, but he finished school and she cried more than was probably necessary. Her former crush on him is not enough to make her ever cheer for Puddlemere, but well...if there was ever a reason for her to meet him, she'd probably still flail a bit.
2: Julia has a ten year plan. More importantly than that, she has had this ten year plan (and been updating it every year), since she was in the second year. It's got all the fun and interesting things such as "Become World Class Non-DP But Still Published Photographer", "Finish School", "Get out of Paisley", "See India" on it, as well as some other things that probably shouldn't be on a ten year plan. But they're there. Just so that she doesn't forget about them. This 'plan' has become something of a joke over the years and has become very edited. With a lot of junk.

One Deep, Dark Secret:
1: As much as Julia loves magic, knows the ins and outs of it, appreciates the heritage she has (the magical part, that is), part of her kind of wishes that she'd been born a squib. Or well, to be more specific, been born into a completely nonmagical family, if only so that things would be simpler. Just sometimes she wishes that if there's going to be political stress, there shouldn't be magic involved.

history.
PERSONAL HISTORY:Seventeen years ago, Julia was born in a vibrant, staunchly middle class family centred in Paisley, becoming their youngest and only daughter. Her parents, Callum and Sophia, both magical themselves though of fairly muggle-esque originis, kept their children mostly immersed in both worlds, instilling a healthy appreciation of both the finer and funnier things in the magical and muggle worlds that had sprung them. With her mother working as a healer and her father doing branch work for Gringott's, the Dorny's lived comfortably, but things were sort of rough-and-tumble given the fact the fact that three boys and one tomboyish girl lends itself to children making a mess of things at every chance they get. Her parents like to throw parties and get together at any occassion that they could manage to get, and while these parties weren't usually the tight-necked deeply formal affairs of the higher classes, it did teach the Dorny children how to put other people at ease in situations such as that at a fairly young age.

As Julia will tell you, there was always an aura of 'brightness' about her family home, which sometimes could be attributed to an exposed lamb from it having been nocked over and the fact that family suppers that lasted way longer than normal were (and still are) a favourite of hers, but she tends to chalk up to the fact that with the exception of her brother Robert, no one in her family really has the 'quiet' thing mastered quite right. Still the Dorny family is one that was immersed on quirky and unique traditions, from doing holiday shopping as a unit (hiding gifts from one another was the best bit), to going to sporting matches where not everyone was rooting for the same side. Growing up, the Dorny kids had this tendency to travel in twos, pairing off by ages (the oldest two versus the youngest two) and there is no one else in the world (not even her friends here at school) that Julia will claim to be as close to as her brother Davis. She tells him everything and anything and he does much the same, and he was there when she slipped on black ice and sliced her leg open on a canlid in the street and carried her all the way up the road home. It's the heroic gesture that only blood and more blood can bring to a person.

For a while as a little girl, her parents did not initially tell her that they were magically in so many words. Of course they're jobs required it and there were little things (shortcuts around the house, the WWN, Quidditch matches, and the DP), but mostly, they eased their children into it, teaching them how to do things the long way, sending them to Muggle primary schools before full on immersing them into that world. Maybe her parents were a bit tetchy about a society that had members that still thought less of them for their "dirty" blood, or maybe they just felt it was better, who knows, for neither ever said anything, but one thing is for certain, that all four Dorny kids were eventually accepted to Hogwarts and continued on that track.

With three siblings coming before her, by the time her Hogwarts letter arrived by Owl, Julia was bouncing, absolutely ready for it and completely and utterly terrified that it wouldn't come and that she would be left behind. She could frankly careless about the new subjects and all of that, but the idea of houses and housemates and people to talk Quidditch with filled her with endless joy, and as she sat on the stool that first night, it didn't take long for the Hat to put her in Gryffindor, as she was positively brimming with idealistic pride and energy. To be fair, at times she was a bit disappointed at first the girls she found as her dormmates, but she figured, she was going to have them, then she was going to have them, and did as her parents had taught her and smiled pretty and offered hugs and a fantastic lot of pride. It wasn't all the funtimes and smooth sailing as she had hoped, and of course, she's taken a lot of potentiallyembarassing photos of her friends and classmates, but she knows it's in good fun as she wants to scrapbook or something all of it, but when things got dark, they got really dark she realised. The cancellation of Quidditch her second year, that strange and upsetting end to the Triwizard tournament, the death of Dumbledore and so on and so forth. A good deal of things that should not have happened, but did anyways. She passed her OWLs, she got a good deal more than she expected (not the highest number, not the lowest number, but decent given someone who kind of spends her life focusing on the misfocused).

It's not meant to be like that, Julia figures. It's supposed to be fun and interesting and prepare you for the world but protect you from it. If this is their protection, what's the real world like? She doesn't want to know, but she figures, she going to have to find out.
