Science!
"I thought the point of working for a slightly-clandestine international organization was not having to go to science conferences," Valini pointed out on her cell and then sighed. "I don't care if it's only a cover for transporting samples to another site, you've never been to one of these. Alright alright, just  where do we need to go and if you say Newark, I'm going to cry." Oy, she'd need to reschedule some appointments. She decided everything eaten would go on the company tab, they could just deal if it was chic restaurants all the way.

Lena looks up innocently from her coffee with a who-me? look. "You know, one day someone should make the argument that us scientists are all a repressed bunch that when let loose on Vegas would go wild. Might make the conferences more fun."

Taking the datapad in hand, she glances at it then looks up at Valini with a raised eyebrow and deadpans, "You can't see it, but inside I'm jumping for joy."

"Perhaps we can talk our superiors into having the next interdepartmental conference. Certainly we'd be able to cut loose in the City of Sin with little problem." She smiled as the idea tickled her. "Certainly improve attendance, as long as there's few morning meetings."

"My sentiments exactly," she agreed in a sympathetic tone, nodding at the deadpan. "As terrible as it is to say, but a sudden attack by AIM or HYDRA may improve that area."

"Probably set records for attendance," she chuckled. "And the morning meetings would be fun just to see how everyone's nights went."

"Agreed, at least then we wouldn't need to go or we'd get some entertainment." She starts to hand back the datapad. "And let me guess, not only are we going to..." Quick double check where it was again. "Oh look, it's actually close to Newark. Anyway, they're making us drive aren't they? No planes, nothing. Someone better have a good car radio."

All of SHIELD's brains, with their drunken rock-star sunglasses, trying to pay attention to their own powerpoint slides. Val would pay money to be in the room for that that and started giggling.

"A good car radio, or..." She trailed off and stared through the wall to where R&D had their labs. All their weapons and tech and.... vehicles. A wide crafty smile grew on her face and she nodded to Lena. "We can do better than Sirius radio."

Lena looks at Valini, then next door, then back. "Those need to be road tested anyway..."

Valini picked up her coat, not-quite cackling as the plan unfolded. "Exactly. We're doing a service to them while doing as requested." They'd need to remember to send a nice basket to the R&D bunch afterward.

"And they always spout on about birds and stones, we're just putting it into practice," she positively smirks and grabs her own coat and bag. Weren't they nice? Doing favours for free.

"Exactly, isn't science grand?" she happily agreed, locking up and heading down the hallway in a 'fly casual' kind of way. "We promise to take relatively good care of anything anyway. They just need to hope they labelled all the buttons correctly." Looking around the corner, the coast seemed clear. Just need to get deep enough in and pinch whatever looked finished.

"Well, they're footing the bill either way. Now if this is a Bond-like car I say we both get the chance to drive." Following along, Lena makes sure to be the one looking behind them to see if anyone was coming. Besides, they were both too valuable to SHIELD to get into too much trouble with the higher ups over using a vehicle for a job-enforced road trip.

A Bond-car, good idea. Just because she was a shrink didn't mean never entertained the exciting life of active agents. "There's no reason for a want of style, to be sure," she agreed and snuck past an armored SUV with a gatling gun mounted on top. Too Mad Max. "Where is the Stark section, I wonder. You know the nicest toys will be there."

Looking around at the cars in the proces of being fitted with hidden weapons, she wonders if the one they pick will have anything. Hopeful everything will be clearly labelled, random destruction was hard to explain. "I hope you mean the Stark-inspired section, because no way are we taking flying suits there." Although it would be interesting to see the SHIELD redesign of the Iron Man work.

She snickered at the correction. "Those suits are not very discreet no," she admitted. "But if he's been tinkering on SHIELD cars, you know they'll be the most interesting." She found a roadster, mercifully not a garish red, and it looked pretty put together. Picking up the nearby datapad, she tapped the screen awake and skimmed before offering it over. "This looks promising."

Already looking through the window inside, Lena lets Valini give the rundown of the specs. "So what's the probability we accidentally cause some destruction? Statistically significant?" Hey, with SHIELD cars you had to ask.

"My dear doctor, we are involved," she pointed out, though if that was meant to be reassuring or not, it wasn't clear. She didn't see anything that would nuke half the Eastern Seaboard and she decided that was good enough. "It doesn't run on gasoline, which will make the trip easier and even better, the keys are right here." She grinned and tossed the said keys to Lena. "And the radio works."

"Point," she smirked and caught the keys. This was probably the nicest car she'd ever driven. "And no reason we should skimp on the food while we're at it." SHIELD higher ups might reconsider trying to send them on dull conference delivery missions.

The engine purrs as it comes to life and Lena can't help the shiver of excitement that runs through her. This was turning out fun.

Not a fuss :)

Valini laughed and nodded as she climbed into the passenger seat, checking it didn't eject or have a missile under it. "Exactly and I bet we can work up an appetite by the time some decadent tickles our fancy on the road." If the car didn't blow up when they started it, it probably wouldn't unless something bad hit it, so she relaxed when the car only purred to life. "Swing by the front, I'll run in and get the samples before the R&D guys know what we've done."

She'd admit there was a tangible sense of relief in the air as the car swings around to the front of the building they're in without setting anything off or blowing up. Ooh and it was as smooth a ride as she had thought. Why hadn't she gotten to try this before?

"Hurry back," she calls as the car stops in front.

"Just keep the car warm." Valini snickered and sped-walked up the stairs and through the wide lobby, trying to look not too conspicuous. It's not hard to find the superior that ordered the trip and pick up the refrigerated box, smiling widely and cheerfully before rushing out. Better to look hurried and slip out than get caught this early in the game. Asking forgiveness versus permission and all that.

She all but ran down the stairs to the waiting car. "Go go go!" She hopped into the car, giggling like an idiot. They had insanely high levels of degrees, they were allowed to be silly.

Lena spends most of the time she waits trying not to bounce in her seat with a giddy grin like a child. So if some people pass by an 'agent' in a new car who's fiddling with the radio a tad too long, that's her desperate attempt to look a least somewhat like serious business.

Seeing Valini come out the front doors, she has to remind herself to wait until the other woman actually got in the car before gunning it. And soon the front of that SHIELD building is left behind in a cloud of smoke and dust with the sounds of a top level scientist cackling with glee. She actually felt like a mad scientist for once!

Her passenger joins in the cackling and makes a mental promise to text to Dugan or someone sympathetic to explain where the car went. They go all but screaming off the complex and into normal roads to get to the high way. "We need loud music, don't we? Loud and bouncy," she declared and stared fiddling with the radio console. "Holler if I find something good."

It must look silly, two people with all those degrees and IQ points cackling as they zoom away in a...borrowed car. "It's like a rule of the road trip practically. And I'd say that one is suitably bouncy. Let's hope everyone else has their windows down in the event we burst into song." Which was also a rule of the road trip.

"There." She sat back in satisfaction when she found a station playing something catchy and energetic. It wasn't Bhangara per se, but you couldn't really follow the lyrics of those songs. With the windows down and the breeze coming in, she bops to the chorus and stretches out in her seat. "So far, way better than departmental meetings and filing reports."

It's a good thing they didn't find any, but at least it'd be better than any spontaneous karaoke of dragostea din tei. Garrbled lyrics ahoy. "Not a bad way to start a traditionally dull assignment. But dear lord that last department meeting? You could just tell everyone wanted to book it back to a lab."

"Hell yes. Make them think twice about sticking us with milk runs and science conventions." Valini groaned at the mention of the dreaded meeting. It had been dreadfully painful with tedium, only having Ben Stein monologue the introduction would have made it worse. "Those meetings are slow on months we haven't had a raid by HYDRA or AIM or something from outer space. It's back when the team-leaders nod off."

"Exactly. And they have no idea how annoying it is to field when's-your-paper-coming questions. I have enough to start my own journal but security protocols mean no publishing! Dear lord are those questions annoying. Only plus is we won't need to speak at any." But there's no way to be in a bad mood with a car this nice. Of course the music and...borrowing aspect to help too.
