Another Night, Another Bottle
Sam Winchester knows, deep down, that he's better than this, better than letting himself drown in self-pity and a cheap bottle of whiskey, but he doesn't care right now. He doesn't care that his brother, Dean, would want him to find a way to move on with his life and get out from under the cloud hanging over him, but Sam doesn't care about that, either.

Dean is dead, and much of Sam's purpose in life went with him. Dean was the one who'd first gotten Sam into hunting, into this life of moving from place to place and helping where they could. He'd been happy in law school, leaving this all behind, before Dean came asking for his help. Every time Sam needed his brother, Dean was there to help, there to encourage him.

But when Dean needed him, Sam couldn't come through for his brother.

He takes another drink, letting the alcohol burn as it runs down his throat. The drinking dulls the pain somewhat, keeping his guilt from eating him alive completely...

...at least, until the whiskey runs out again.

And now came the moment of truth. Sam knew this would have to happen, but it didn't mean he liked it. He took a deep breath and collected his thoughts.

It's just once or twice, enough power to kill Lilith. Once I kill her, then I'm done. No more.

"All right. Let's do it." Sam says walking over and taking her hand in both of his. He looks down at the blood, then back at Ruby, then back at the blood.

He licks her palm hesitantly at first, then begins to suck at the blood welling from the cut. Once he can taste it, though, it's both spicy and sweet, but delicious...and familiar.

And soon enough, Sam is sucking greedily, trying to get every drop he can before she takes it away.

Sam heeds Ruby's words, sucking with barely concealed delight even as a voice in his head tells him he needs to stop. Somewhere in his mind, Sam /wants/ to stop, knows that he needs to, but he can't.

His drops to his knees, his free arm wrapping around Ruby's waist to pull her closer to him as his breath comes in ragged gasps. He stops and takes a moment to breathe, looking up at her.

"You didn't tell me it was this good..." Sam says, going back to work on her palm.
