AU - This is What Happens When You Don't Keep People Informed
Lisa was enjoying her afternoon off. Julian's secretary had informed him he'd stepped out for a few hours, so she'd taken it upon herself to slip into something less comfortable but a lot more interesting, and wait for him in his office. She made herself comfortable, setting herself up in his chair with the laptop he'd gotten her, and a bottle of good scotch.

Lisa sniffs hard, looking about as worse for wear as Minnie, but with bruises on her legs taking the place of scratches on her face.

"She called me a liar... called what we have 'ridiculous'."

This is humiliating.

"So, the two of you thought it would be a good idea to use my office to work out your emotional issues through physical violence?" Julian asks.

"You two are grown women, and both very important to me. I'm disappointed in you both. Rather than one of you, I don't know, picking up a phone to call and ask me who this other woman is, you two came to my office, embarrassed the three of us in front of my staff and metaphorically pissed in a circle around me so that you could each say I 'belong' to you." Julian surmises.

"I mean, Goddess forbid that I was planning to introduce you both tonight over a steak dinner and explain who you are to each other. No, I didn't think that would be an issue because I thought I was dealing with /adults/." he says.

Lisa's first thought is to say 'it's complicated', but it falls apart.

She looks over at Minnie, looking just as miserable as her at the moment, if not moreso.

She doesn't get any words out, but she lets go of Minnie's power, somewhat relieved to see the world come back into focus. Julian upset is harrowing enough in the normal spectrum.

The world coming back into focus just makes things worse for Minnie, because it's even more clear that it's Julian.

She's disappointed him.

Humiliated him.

... He Cares deeply for this girl, which might imply that... everything she said was true. That she was his Only One. That he'd forgotten Minnie easily.

...Right now, Minnie is absolutely certain she does not deserve to live.

"...I'm sorry," she says quietly. Everything about her tone and posture as abjectly, submissively contrite as she could get without actually throwing herself on the floor.

Lisa retreats into snark, even if its at herself, to cope with the situation. "Yeah... we both just sailed right on past that obvious solution, didn't we?" She puts her palm to her face, then shakes her head.

She'll stand, if Julian's little construct will let her.

"I'm sorry... I... I fucked up." Her lips practically rebel against the apology, but she gets it out.

She looks between him and Minnie. "What can I do?"

Julian just looks at Minnie and Lisa and a part of him feels odd about this turn of events. If he'd just spoken up sooner, this might not have happened. Perhaps they both might have understood and maybe they'd have become friends.

Or, if not friends, they would at least learn to tolerate each other for his sake.

Julian doesn't know what /guilt/ is by name, but he knows he could have handled this better. Still, the damage to his office and the spilled Scotch on the carpet make him angry.

He releases the bands from both of them.

"You both need to leave me alone for the night. I need some time to calm down." Julian says, using his powers to start righting a few fallen items. Most of his office is metallic, aiding him in doing so.

Minnie rises much more slowly than Lisa.

"Yes, Julian," she says quietly, not looking up, before turning to Lisa, still not looking up.

"I'm sorry, Miss Graves. I was... wrong"

She leaves for her room.

"I... I understand." She responds to Julian, before turning to Minnie.

"I'm sorry too... and call me Lisa, if you want."

She heads for the door, looking over her shoulder as she goes. "I'll pick up a bottle for you on the way in tomorrow. G'night, boss." She was so used to calling him that to tease him, but right now it felt... well, desperate.

She draws herself up, and marches out, then through the mostly dispersed crowd, body language daring any of them to comment.
