AU - This is What Happens When You Don't Keep People Informed
Lisa was enjoying her afternoon off. Julian's secretary had informed him he'd stepped out for a few hours, so she'd taken it upon herself to slip into something less comfortable but a lot more interesting, and wait for him in his office. She made herself comfortable, setting herself up in his chair with the laptop he'd gotten her, and a bottle of good scotch.

	Minnie is not looking her best. Food and sleep have scarcely happened in the past four days at all. She's hardly even tried. She's tried to dress appropriately, wearing her work formals, though. She doesn't look up if she arrives at the door at the same time as Lisa. She doesn't look up immediately when Julian answers the door. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

Julian serves both Lisa and Minnie their steaks, followed by his own, then sits down to the table. He takes a healthy scoop of potatoes, trying to ignore the gnawing in his own body. He hasn't fed since before the other day. He's not exactly happy, either, but he's going to gut this out.

He tries to make some small talk with them, discussing his most recent deal.

"And I am now a part-owner of the New York Yankees. I don't really care for baseball, but I hear that Skybox at Yankee Stadium is great." he says.

	Minnie starts to look up and say that she would think those decisions would be better left to professional managers, in such an alien field, but stops herself and concentrates on making herself eat. Julian is about to take another bite of steak, but pauses halfway to his mouth. Then he puts the fork down sighs.

"Very well. I want you two to look at each other in the eyes right now, because the two of you are going to be seeing a lot more of each other. This is normally the part where the women present a somewhat united front and say something cliche like 'It's either her or me'.

Well, here's /my/ offer. It's either both of you or neither of you." Julian says, sitting back in his chair.

"I was appalled by what I walked in on the other day. Granted, I should have told you two about each other, but I didn't expect that you two would meet quite that soon. More fool me. That won't happen again.

Minnie, I enjoy Lisa's company and the sex is amazing. She challenges me. We have fun. That does not mean I have no use for you at all.

Lisa, Minnie was my first everything. The first person I fed upon, the first woman I ever made love to and she taught me all of those things you happen to enjoy so much. She's also the reason that I'm willing to entertain a relationship with you. If I could ever say I loved someone, which I never say such things, I would say that Minnie was my first love.

The point is, Minnie is mine and I will not give her up for anything, but that doesn't mean I don't want you.

I see a rare opportunity here for the three of us. I'm not saying you two need to enjoy each other, but I expect to be allowed to enjoy whom I choose when I choose. I care for you both.

I would like it if you both stayed with me, but if this isn't something either of you want, it would be best to tell me now so that I can grow accustomed to it." he says, finishing his speech. Then he pours himself a glass of wine.

Lisa hadn't even thought of coming up with an ultimatum. She honestly didn't even care. Too much was just unknown for her to make anything of the situation.

She listens to him go on, some of the grief dissipating as it is replaced by careful attention and focus.

She can't help but smile at what he says about her, and doesn't frown at what he has to say about Minnie. More comes into focus. (Her particular measure of zeal is still a little out there, so far as her comprehension goes, but she'll just assume there's more to be told, eventually.)

She'll attach a little personal attention to 'first', in that there could be others, but she's more intrigued by the notion of him never saying such a thing. Not the first guy she's met of that nature, but the authority he says it with is different.

She lets his words settle, offering a glass of her own for him to fill.

It's all so complicated.

He's the only man she's met she'd keep taking a chance on like this.

"I'm still here, Julian." She puts as much confidence behind that as she can muster. "I can deal with you having us both... however you decide to arrange that."

She manages the vestiges of one of her usual smirks, but it's more than a little forced.

Still, she'll try anything once.

She turns to Minnie.

	Minnie does her best to clear her throat. "I wasn't... I wasn't going to say that. I'm sorry, Julian. You can have whomever you want; of course you can; I never minded that! I just... got confused." Julian rises from his chair and walks around the table, kneeling before Minnie. He kisses her forehead and looks into her eyes.

"Minnie, shh." he whispers, kissing her nose, then her lips.

"I forgive you, darling. I need to know you'll be okay, though. We're going to be fine, all three of us. Okay?" he asks, nodding at her.

"Now, we should eat dinner, because I'm very hungry. And I'm very /hungry/ as well." he says.

Then gets up and goes over to Lisa, kneeling before her as well.

"Are you really going to be okay?" he asks her.

Okay, even a scrooge like Lisa has to find that, in all it's myriad complications for her, a little endearing.

The mention of him being /hungry/ goes a long way to salve her frustrations as well.

As he settles in front of her, she reaches one hand out and puts it behind his head, tousling his hair before leaning in and giving him a hungry but brief kiss.

"If I weren't, then I wouldn't really be as interesting as you've billed me to be, would I?" She smirks. "I'll evolve." Which is her way of saying 'I can deal'.
