Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
My name is Yukina, which gets shortened to Yuna if you like or not, it doesn't matter much to me. ^^

I'm...

- 23 years old
- Just recently accepted into East China Normal University for graduate school (hence the Chinese flag) and also recently graduated from university in the States.
- Am pursuing my Ph.D in Chinese literature and linguistics
- Japcasian (Japanese + Caucasian, lolz) though sadly my Chinese is better than my Japanese at the moment
- Currently living in my homestate of Michigan until August, where I will move (back) to Shanghai
- A language-learning addict (I'm currently also learning Hebrew and American Sign Language)
- I love reading, especially fantasy novels. Jacqueline Carey's Kushiel's Legacy, Anne Bishop's The Black Jewels Trilogy and of course, Harry Potter are my top favourites. I also rather liked the Twilight series. I own more books than I own clothes, and I love shopping so... what does that tell you? ;D
- Am a girly dork; I'll buy clothes in one shot and then a video game system in another
- Would like to make some more friends!

My journal is friends' only for comments, so just leave a comment here if I strike your fancy or wish to ask any questions! ♥

You sound pretty awesome. :D I can has add? XD I've been learning some Japanese recently, but I'm sure your Japanese is still better than mine. XD

Also, do they still have those internet restrictions in China? If so, are you worried about not being able to be on when you return to Shanghai? Just a random question. XD

I will definitely add you back! And hooray for learning Japanese; it's such a beautiful language, isn't it? Unfortunately like most half-Asians or Asians growing up in America, my speaking is FAR better than my reading and writing, which is... sadly... crap. D: I'm working on it, however, and if you want to practise I'd be more than happy to!

Yes, there is still the Great Firewall of China, but happily Scribbld isn't blocked. LiveJournal, however, is so I will primarily be posting here. ^^

Indeed it is. ^.^ It's pretty funny because it's the other way around for me, I can't speak right off, but reading and writing is a lot easier for me. Most of it has to be in hiragana though, as I only know a few Kanji. ^.^ I could def. use some practice though, since I won't be returning to class until fall.

LOL. The Great Firewall of China. Never heard it put that way before. XD *hides scribbld from them* I'm sure if they find out it will be blocked too. ><; Good thing they have no idea that there are tons of clones out there?

I totally recommend practising your katakana off and on, as IMO you don't use it as much and sometimes later you'll see a word and be like, "...eff, I know that kana... which one is it?" and then later feel stupid, haha. I majorily use hiragana and kanji. :P

Well, LiveJournal was blocked mainly because of all the political opinions that were out in the open for Chinese to read, a.k.a. what other people thought of Chinese government actions. Since obviously THAT is so wrong, they blocked LiveJournal. *eye roll* I'm sure with the majority of the posts on this site being, as I've noticed, entries in [info]flamecup and rating communities, I'm sure the delicate sensibilities of the Chinese government won't be offended. ;D

Hahahaha, my katakana fails at life for that very reason. I really should practice with it more, but I don't usually have a reason to use it. XD;;

Yuck. And I thought free speech was under attack here. Bleh. Honestly, while I'm glad this place won't be enough to offend the Chinese government, you kind of have to realize how sad it is to say that. XD;;

I practise generally when I'm bored by making an English word sound "Japanese-y" or try to sound out my friends names in kana and write it out. It helps. XD

you kind of have to realize how sad it is to say that. XD;;

Oh, I do. I certainly do, and it's painful sometimes because I love China so much and it's very hard to support China when there's just so much hate, conflict, and misunderstanding, especially when as an American overseas in a country like that, you are seen as a living symbol of freedom and democracy and ordinary people come to you, begging to know what it's like to be "free" and yet you have no idea how to tell them that we're not as free as they dream us to be... it's very difficult. x.x

I can't begin to imagine how difficult that must be. I have a hope that one day China will come around and learn to trust it's people more than it does now, but I don't know if that will happen during my lifetime. I certainly hope so.

On top of that, it's kind of sad that there isn't much of the intellectual sort of discussion going on here at scribbld. XD;;; At least, not enough for the Chinese government to get involved.
